How the hell did the prices doubled in less than a week??

Fortunately I managed to buy half of what I needed before this.. but none the less, it’s odd :S

Well the prices haven’t “doubled.” They went from around 17s to aroung 26s. That’s closer to a 50% increase than 100%. But looking at the chart, it seems the excess supply of scales has completely disappeared coinciding with the spike. My first suspicion would probably be bot bans as that’s usually what that indicates. If it’s limited to scales and scales alone, it’s worth pointing out that the spike coincided with the release of Super Adventure Box. It’s possible that many of the suppliers of scales simply have been engaged in other activities. There’s always a chance that something’s broken as well.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhh…except according to spidy the last time the price was 13s was on 2/12. You might have placed a lucky bid for 13 or bought some extreme outliers which were non-representative of the actual market prices, but the 24 hour moving average hasn’t dropped below 16.4 for a long long time.

I don’t know what happened, but I’m extremely glad I bought enough for my Gift of Might when they were 6.5s each tempting to sell… but I know I’ll soon need them again. 16g → 65g

This is the most likely explanation. Wasn’t someone just complaining about Elder logs going up too? I think the assumption that it’s only one thing out of the entire TP is flawed.

None of the other t6 mats has seen the same trend. Heck, prices of Powerful Venom Sacs have been dropping steadily for the past month or two.

I think there was a couple of factors. First, before the March patch, Orr was bugged on just about every server. This lead to many events simply going on forever. I was pulling in about 100 heavy bags an hour for a full week due to these bugged events. This created an excess supply which kept the prices pretty stable, even lowering them occasionally. March patch hit, then those events were fixed as well, reducing the overall supply. Also people were doing the new content with flame and frost, none of which drop scales, although they do drop most of the other mats. This caused the supply to dip even further, raising the price.

Next SAB hit. Most of the games population is currently in the SAB. I mean there are soo few people out in the world right now that it takes 3 full ice walls to get jormag to 50% health. Before SAB it usually only took 1. This means supply of ALL mats has taken a pretty big hit while this event is going on.

So it was basically the perfect storm of keeping the prices low due to bugs, then having a drastic cut in supply due to other events causing a quick rise.

This is because spiders are the only thing in the game that still have a decent farming spot. So now everyone is farming spiders and venoms are going down until they nerf those spots as well.

I dunno. Farming the Spiders at Shelt drops a good amount of Crystalline Dusts for me, but I don’t really see their prices affected too much either.

Armored Scales are a component in crafting Knight’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscription which is a component in crafting Knight’s Pearl Shell, which is used as a base to apply the new Super Shield Skin.
If you see on spidy the Knight’s Pearl Shell has risen from the middle 4gs to the middle 5gs as the demand for it has increased. Naturally the scales will increase in price also.
The other types of Pearl Shells haven’t risen as much in price as the stats aren’t as appealing for a shield user.
Or I could really be making all this stuff up, as we all know that the TP is heavily manipulated and crafting is useless anyway.

Hmm that is true, there must be something else going on. I mean Dust is certainly used a lot more then venom, so that is one factor, but spiders do seem to drop them about equally, so it must not be the only source of the disparity.

We all have to remember that a sudden spike like the one Makato’s charts show can simply be an effect of all the sensibly priced scales being bought out leaving behind scales that had been priced considerably higher for months.

Then what happens is that Mat pops up on everyone’s profit seeking TP tool as well as players selling scales who have no idea what the prevailing price was before. They just see the current price and undercut it. Same with the next and the next. Spike followed by quick decay but not back down to it’s previous price.

There use to be 15-20K supply of them. Now it’s a few thousand. And yes the drop in supply started around the time of SAB.

Well it looks like a trip to Frostgorge Sound is in order tonight.

Slight oversight, Beserker’s and Apothecary’s Pearl Shells are also up, Apothecary’s by quite a bit having broken the 6g mark. Beserker seems a waste on a shield but i can see how apothecary would be appealing.
Still in my opinion a risky craft as I’m not familiar with karka shell prices or with the market for apothecary items.

Well then you’d expect other t6 mats used rise in price too, like Fangs, Claws, whatever is used. You don’t really see that though.

I personally lean towards some specific underwater farming bots got mass banned.

Crafted Explorers and Valkyries usually trade at a loss or at a very low margin, so my guess is that the market for them isn’t as big. And powerful bloods have also been steadily increasing in price since the start of the event, which would lead me to believe that we are seeing a big increase in the quantities of crafted beserker’s for the sword, greatsword, staff and bows, and knight’s for the shield.

As an example, beserker greatswords have broken the 5g mark and very nearly broke 6g / unit. Their “natural” price is around 4g50s.

Venom Sacs drop because of fractals. The Jade Sea fractal is generally farmed (at least by groups that don’t suck) a minimum of once per day by anyone who does a daily fractal, and the drop rate for sacs is ridiculously high. Add to that Orr spiders dropping only those, bones, and dust for the pent/shelt events and there’s clearly a dramatic oversupply of sacs relative to the other T6 mats.

Scales are still 20% below blood in price. They previously had a ridiculously large excess supply (18k as opposed to the 10k Totems/Claws and 2k Blood/Fangs) and have fallen into a more normal range for that excess.

I’m sorry mister know it all, but you do realize that Spidy only shows the price hourly and sometimes inaccurately?

I’m sorry mister freak out and cry, but do you realize if you read an entire post before completely losing your mind about something, the things that are too far over your head for you to understand are explained?

Bloods and scales give the (arguably) most popular stats (Berserker’s and Knights respectively), which is likely why their price is so much higher than some other T6 mats. Either that or they’re just harder to find, or maybe a combination of both.

In any case many people are always wanting armored scales for their legendaries and those people tend to be richer and less picky with prices (if they weren’t then precursors wouldn’t stay so expensive). All it takes is one really rich person to exploit this.

Supply is WAY down so price went up. I should have brought tons when they were dirt cheap for personal use but oh well.

Guess people are lazy, I rather do CoF or SE for the Zerk/Knight gear than buy on tp or craft. Save gold and make gold, guess people want things right away.
