Why back items dropped at price?
It’s probably inflation
dont’ you find it weird wind catcher selling for 90 gold before, but having an event that actually drops the item boost it’s price to 200?
I think those people that hoard those item and can’t sell them now trying to clean up.
When it comes to rare skins, some players are impatient and sell to soon. Then a few months late the prices increase again. People are just dumping their supplies thinking this is the highest price the item will be. The supply is about to become very limited after the next season starts.

But it started to drop after the patch, isn’t drop rate increased perhaps?

There is always the possibility Anet will release the item again. Judging by the track record recently, seemed like it became the norm.

Price is suppose to drop below 90 gold right? Since even without the event, the price didn’t go higher.
I think just speculator guessing since the drop rate is low, it’ll keep going up. So they try to buyout everything. Maybe they are guessing those skins will become the next jetpack.
Does the back item price dropping happen before or after todays’ update? wonder if today’s patch made any changes.

I know the reason why these skins drop so hard in price …
first of all sry for grammar -.-… The reason isnt that those people cant sell these items, especially the wind catcher. Its a realy good skin and a lot of people want it. I just sell one 3 days ago for over 193g it take only 30 min and it was sold. The reason why these skins drop so hard is that the new “Flying Dolyak race” event of the Labyrinthine Cliffs has a chance to drop one of these skins and so every one try to sell his fresh dropped item —-> the price drop unter the table… BUT! i have already bought one ( like 8 month ago or so ) for 20g and sold it for 193g! I think after the next patch it will be a good investment to earn some money with it, becaus u can not drop it anywhere (after the 1st June update, becaus this event will disappear) and so it is a limited item which price can only increase…

Also, a lot of peoples impatience drives them to hop from one investment to another. It’s possible some people had invested in the skin (let’s be honest, it’s become a fad even with ‘casuals’) in order to turn a profit, but then dumped them to try to make a few gold and dump some more into the hopes of Phoenix skin profits or to get a shiny new Jade skin. As people that do a lot of trading, surely we can all agree that you can always count on ‘bad traders’ to throw a wrench in the cogs. This is just personal conjecture, but a very practical answer as well.
Guys, isnt wierd that prices droped after yesterday patch ? Is obvious, they increased the drop rate by alot
Rucksack dropped heaps too, I think speculators just cashing out lol
Ohh … nice .. hope there will be a Desert Rose left for this price when i’m home from work

Yesterday, after the patch I farmed 500 gauntlet chances. I ended up with 3-4 backpieces, 4 monocles and a chaos of lyssa recipe.
Either I should play the lottery or they increased the drop rate significantly.
As a result I sold my entire stock of Chaos of Lyssa recipes to guard against this. All in all I made about 500g from the returns.
tldr: sell everything while you can before it catches on.

I hate you and I hope something evil and terrible happens to you. I don’t want you dead, I just don’t want you living.
all in jest
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Yay .. got my Desert Rose for 18g .. but with my luck i suspect it will fall even to 10 or 5 in the next days .. lol.
Wonder if they maybe have even changed something with the drops from those boxes, since Iron Ore has also gone again from 1,50 up to 2,20.

So is there any actualy reason as to why i logged in 2400g poorer? Is it actualy an increase in drop rates like everyone has said? I see nothing in the patch notes.
Nevermind, just confirmed it myself, the chests are now dropping them at an alarming rate. Previously i had opened around 2000 and only got 1 air-filtration skins. After opening just 50 i have already got 2 catcher skins.
Which chests are dropping them? Supply crates or gauntlet chances?
I’m guessing its the boss blitz chests or the bazar reward chests, since CoL seems stable.
Ill give you a hint, look at how gossamer scraps are now worth more than gossamer bolts. In my opinion and drop rate research (just opened 1500 boxes) the drop rate has increased ALOT but not alot to warrent this significant price drop.
The cost of opening 1000 boxes is currently around 110-126 gold, out of this i had obtained 3 skins, a desert rose, a wind catcher and a lightning catcher. This comes to about 70g, along with the other random junk (about 5g). I then continued to open a further 500 and got nothing at all but two reef minis.
So far about 170g dumped, 70g outcome. Honestly if your after the skins just buy them straight from the TP.

I actually do hope that it’s true. I’ve got my eye on the Chaos of Lyssa recipe if it drops below the price threshold I’m willing to pay for it.

I doubt there was a change. The Chaos of Lyssa recipe is stable in price and I did not get much out of about 500 chances I opened after said patch. Can’t speak for the Zephyr Boxes though.
I’d guess that some people were simply very lucky, posted their results along with the “drop rate was increased” idea and made others who hoarded items sell them, in fear of price loss. Of course, prices dropped because suddenly a lot items were sold, falsely “proving” the drop rate myth.

So that confirms what i thought about the rising Iron Ore prices .. nice .. time to farm more iron

The drop rates for the backpieces have been increased. I think the price drop is perfect proof.
The recipe, however, has been unchanged.
It’s a conspiracy for Vol to buy cheap backpieces :P

The monocles also halfed in price, though they come from the gauntlet chances, not the zephyr boxes. That is the weird point.
Toxic Spore skin also come from chances not box which is also weird. I think everything got buffed except Chaos of Lyssa
They drop like crazy from the zephyr supply crates now, which also explains the increase in raw materials. Made a fair chunk of change just after the 17th patch opening those boxes – got a tonne of level tomes too from the tokens!
I think monocle drop rate got buffed too looking at gw2tp. Are they dropping from something other than gauntlet chances now?

I think monocle drop rate got buffed too looking at gw2tp. Are they dropping from something other than gauntlet chances now?
Judging by recent data like this the drop rate does not seem changed. Looking at gw2tp also shows that the monocle supply was 17, 19 and 24, which is not much. There were also very few high buy offers, which you can’t easily see on gw2tp, but I remember because I got a monocle and was checking the TP in game regulary the last days. Consequently, the price can easily drop only because a few people decide to sell their savings. Combine that with the (current) tiny but steady drop due to gauntlet chances, and you have the result.
Other example: Take the desert rose skin (gw2tp-link) and look at the May 13th price drop. People thought the price would collapse because the Zephyr Boxes would cause a huge supply, but they did not right after the update. The rate was so low, people opened thousands without seeing any back item skin and were discussing if certain skins were even in the boxes at all. However, the price did not jump back right away, but took 1 week for a smaller rise and another 1 week for a huge one.
The market for items like monocles is fragile, I think. It’s a rather expensive item for only a small look, compared to other armour and alike. If only a few people here and there keep panicking because of the price drop and sell their monocles quick and cheap(er), they cause exactly what they feared: A further decreasing price. Just because they think it is happening they start actually making it real.

If this stealth buff encourages more people to farm gauntlet, then it is going to incidentially buff Chaos of Lyssa availability. More people will farm gauntlet in general if they don’t feel its a futile effort, which will result in more CoL on the market.
I suspect that as more people catch on to the stealth buff, and with more people farming/panic selling over the weekend, the price of Chaos of Lyssa will gradually fall to ~125 buy range over the weekend.
Yesterday I got two skins out of 3k boxes. Can anyone confirm the drop rate has been reversed?
Yes I can confirm. Same here, although the sample size is about 500 (and no skins). I know it was different under the stealth buff; I think it’s gone.
