So since Anet is seemingly more interested in skins of armor rather than stats as a reason to do dungeons, and we can preview armor and weapons on every other front, why can’t we preview what an item looks like BEFORE we purchase said item on the TP?

Amen! Makes as much sense as a car having wheels.

Because the game was rushed to publish. They are reworking the trade post and one of the features is a preview option.
