As my rosters of characters increases, I’ve been purchasing more and more bank storage space. However, I’ve apparently hit the limit, as I’m no longer allowed to spend gems on increasing my bank’s storage capacity any further.

This seems like a rather odd decision for a business. It’s like I’m trying to hand you more money but you’re telling me you don’t want it. It’s doubly strange since this is the main area you’ve been obtaining cash from me. I’ve easily spent more on bank storage space since release than any monthly subscription MMO would have cost me. So, why not allow me to continue to do so?

Sorry for not having an answer to your question, but I’m curious as to how many tabs is the limit? I currently have 4 tabs and it looks like there might be space for 3 more, just need to keep an eye on it.

I agree that having a limit on this is kind of strange but what in the world are you filling your bank up with?

Instead of paying 600 gems to get a lousy 30 extra bank slots, pay 800 gems to get an extra character, buy 4 bags with 15 space and you will have a total of 80 spots for the same price than you would have 30.

Choice 1 : pay 600 gems and get 30 space.
Choice 2 : pay 800 gems + 2g for bags and get 80 space

Seems like a no brainer to me…

True, you can’t easily take & get the items from that mule, but don’t tell me you need access to ALL of the items in those 8 bank tabs ALL the time!

I found it cheaper to just buy a second account and use it to store tradable items.

PLUS, I get the option of mailing items to myself when ever I want.

Another option is to create a 1-man guild and buy/earn the influence to upgrade Guild Vault/Treasure Trove. Might take awhile and is not very accessible out of town, but a ton of space to store additional stuff.

I tried that, but it takes a loooooooong time to get the influence. And, well, you get lonely out there without a guild!

You can buy influence with gold, think it costs around 100g and a month to build 250 slots.

50 slots costs 2500 influence and you get 1400 from finishing your personal story.

You claim you are spending real money on gems, but you could be just as well merely trading gold for them.

Sounds more likely to me that you are one of those market arbiters that are screing up the game.

So have only one toon in that guild. You can buy influence with gold and you don;t sound short of that at all if you’ve got 7 bank slots. My sympathy remains non-existent.

i am also disappointed i can’t buy more bank slots.

this is especially annoying since i’ve already bought a 6th character, which means 6 characters are sharing 240 bank slots, which is kinda lame for each character to only get to personally have 40 bank slots thus far. And i’m the sort of person likely to buy even more character slots…. or i would, but as i’ve already hit the bank limit.. there’s no point to buying a 7th character, since this character would have zero bank space at this point.

i also don’t get why there is a cap on how many bank expansions i can buy. i have expanded my bank buying gems with real money. Anet, of course, can tell that..

its a great way to get hoarders ingames to spend money. Like the original poster, i’ve spent more money on the 7 bank upgrades then i would have spent in a normal game with a $15 a month sub…

at the moment i’m /trying/ the personal-guild trick some people have mentioned. but that really shouldn’t be necessary. i should be able to give Anet more money.. for more bank space.

As I mentioned, I have a number of characters that each add to the amount of storage space I use. I also have the chef profession, where many components can’t be placed in component storage. If Anet wants to “fix” that.. by all means, please do.

What a strange response. Where is this hostility coming from?

First of all, if you have half as many bank slots as me it’s simply because I had no qualms about dropping twice as much money on storage as you. There’s really nothing more to it than that.

Personally, I’ve never purchased gems with gold (or gold through gem sales). However, I’d love to know why you’re acting like that even matters?

When a player uses gold to purchase gems, those gems being purchased with gold were purchased using real money somewhere along the line, ultimately bought and sold by another player. In the end, Anet has received money for gems, and those gems are being used for a BLT account service. Whether I spend real money on gems and buy bank space or Bob buys gems, sells them to Sue for gold, and Sue uses the gems to buy bank space, it’s all the same.

You just don’t seem to be clear on how that works, so I wanted to point it out.

I hope they adjust the amount to something unrealistic like 20 tabs, or give the option to increase the size of the tab with gems as well. There’s a workaround anyway so increasing storage means more money for Anet. I think that’s good. While I am not at the limit yet I probably will be within a few months, being a packrat with armor sets and all.

P.S. accusations of being a gold buyer just because someone fills his bank are petty, think before you post.

But lack of bank space stops people from hoarding Items that drives up the price ! Makes perfect sense . Otherwise the few gold barons would put a complete stop to fairing trading. Prices would be out of reach average player and would take a year to save for just one piece of lv. 80 exotic ! As right now most of us will never own a legendary do to the high amount of gold need to craft one .Which is alright by me because the gold barons need something to call their own but given the chance they they would own it all .

Anet has set up a great system where no matter how gold or time you have to play your always in the game looking back at other poorly run system some games are only playable to small group players . The rest of the players , late joiners or few who happen to have a job or families were out of the running unless they were willing to drop some real world cash and lots of it to catch up.

I’d be fine with them giving us the ability to get even bigger banks, but lets face it, unless you’re aggressively playing all the characters on every slot on your account…they have more room for more stuff to hold. Put stuff on them that you probably won’t touch for a while.

Not if you have town clothes, a bunch of Halloween items and storing all the various weapon combos for your chars in the bank.

Different people have different needs. I can understand why ANet wants to limit the space-per-account – it’s a flaw of the central database idea that lets you switch worlds/server. Each account can’t have large data needs (i.e., items stored) to make switching unfeasible. It is annoying, though. If ANet would make a town clothes tab just like the component tab, that would help a lot. And then there’d be even more incentive to spend gems on town clothes!

I’ve never heard of a game with unlimited storage…

And if you’re willing to spend money on a bank slot, why not just buy another character, buy more bag slots and fill it with 20 slot bags?

I’m pretty sure I know why there is a limit of 7 bank tabs. From a financial perspective, if you offer an unlimited number of bank tab upgrades, a person will never be “done” with the upgrades. MMO gamers are quite often people who go for 100% completion, whether it is in achievements, gear or any other aspect of the game. If there is a 7 bank tab limit purchase, then people will buy them to tick off that one on the to-do list. If there were 100 tabs, the cost would be too high, and people would most likely not go for it. Around 7 tabs seems to be a sensible number, which many people (I imagine) would not have a problem upgrading.

Then later on, once 50% of all people have the 7 or 8 tabs, you can patch an additional 2-4 available tabs. People who already have the maximum will “have” to get the additional tabs to continue having their stash maxed out. Maybe they wouldn’t have purchased 12 tabs to begin with, but now that they already have 7 or 8, what difference does a couple of extra tabs do in the wallet.
