In the last 2 weeks the prices of various mats have collapsed – eg bolts of gossamer, snow truffles, coriander seed, silver dyes.

Why is this?

I have seen an increase in the number of bots over the last two weeks.

Probably has a lot to do with it.

Most of the bots I’ve seen are in mid-levels zones- where they can avoid the massive endgame population.

Teleport hack bots EVERYWHERE. I can never seem to get them reported before they blink off to the next spot.

Funny, Powerful blood is really the only T6 mat I want at the moment and I’m having a hell of a time getting any amount of it. Don’t feel like being taken for a ride in the TP for it either. Wish I could trade poison glands for blood on a 1:1 basis.

Gossamer has been falling since it peaked in January. February’s monthly is a large part of that fall though. I’d imagine the more recent behaviors have been a result of people who stocked up in February expecting a rebound that hasn’t really come. Looking at the sell/buy listing figures (yes I know they’re not real transaction volume, but they’re still meaningful) both have spiked, but especially the buy listings.

I don’t know anything specific about the other items you mention, but I don’t think gossamer is related (assuming the others are related at all).

Could be salvaging, maybe, but I, too, have seen bots recently; all instances of players spawning over gathering nodes, though.

Im sure bots are an issue, although I personally don’t see them very often. I might see one every week or two. I think the thing is, alot of us have our gear now. There isn’t much use for materials. I sell all my materials except for Tier 6 ones and even those I often don’t bother and sell them as well. Im sure there are alot of other players like me in the same boat. If we have no use for something, might as well turn it into gold and maybe that will be useful in the future.

Here’s a suggestion to help some of you: rather than try to click on them and report before they disappear which is very tricky in most cases, hit your Print Screen the second you see them pop onto a node, then check your screens dir in your GW2 install dir (or wherever it may be on your setup) at your leisure.

I’ve tagged and reported over 50 mining bots in the last couple months, and I’m glad to say that despite it taking far too long for them to begin disappearing (i.e. becoming dormant in my friends list rather than online 24/7), they do look to be being taken care of eventually which is better than not at all. I have to assume the reports are working, albeit not before each bot has time to farm 10 billion mats and dump them on the TP. :-(

I think many of those items are bottoming out because the demand is just way down. The game has hit the age where a large amount of the players are max level and have a set of exotic gear. They really have no use for the items you’ve listed. What they need is mats for their legendary or rare skin (I.E. tons of ectos, and powerful bloods, etc) which are all rising in demand and price.

What we need is another recipe to dump mats off the market like the butter recipe, except this time with mined/gathered/salvaged mats. I mean leather and silk are below vendor price, I sell stacks of them every day to the vendor.

For a game that hires a full time economist I’m surprised he hasn’t come up with a drainage system. The only items in the game that are destroyed are items used in mystic toilet recipes and food consumables.

Although gambling in the mystic toilet might be amusing for some people; the rest of us would like something useful instead. Food consumables provide benefits to the player and help drain items from the system. Especially in a system where people don’t change gear often.

You can tie the prices on almost everything to ecto values.

If ecto prices go down, the price on kitten near everything in the game goes down since people make less rares to salvage for ectos —-> cheaper t5 mats —--> less t4 conversions to t5 —--> excess of t4 mats = cheaper t4 mats —-> less MF conversions to t4 —-> excess t3 mats = cheaper t3 mats etc.

When you see the charm of running world dragons wear off for people and ectos go up a bit in price again due to less rares being acquired from the chests, you’ll see everything else go up along with it soon after.

Happens every time, go look at ecto prices in the past as they’ve gone up and down, then compare with the mat prices during those same time periods.

Precursors even went down in price for a while with the ecto frenzy when they made the dragon event change. For the same reason too. Then a good amount of people chose that time to buy the cheaper precursors (Most of them likely to actually use, not speculate with. Demand for precursors is massive and it is not artificial). Now they’ve gone up again because the precursor market is just waiting for the next round of rich people to take their profits by MFing more precursors for everyone (Cheaper to MF a precursor atm due to cheaper rares and/or cheaper ectos to craft exotics to throw in).

I have not seen bots since the days when you would see 20 of them grouped together.
I think part of the reason for the price drop is because of ascended gear.
Before ascended gear people wanted exotic’s for their alts.
Now you can spend 20 to 30 gold (exotics) or 3 to 4 gold (rare’s). Either way you will be under powered.

Well, there is a system: tier promoting in the mystic forge. Problem is dust is always so much more expensive than the actual materials you’re converting and I’m going to guess that’s because you need a stack of tier 3, 4, 5, and 6 dusts to make certain legendaries. And doing tier 6 conversions? HA. Crystal dust is so expensive it renders every tier 6 conversion useless. It’s a little funny that it’s a drainage system for items that players don’t need that requires items players do need to use.

Also, part of the problem with silk and thick leather is that they’re the most common drop from pretty much any high level bag consumable. Go ahead, open up some high level bags and a guranteed half of everything you get from them will be a silk scrap or a thick leather scrap. It’s ridiculous.

teleporting bots are back in force on Fort Aspenwood. I see them ALL over the t6 zones while playing.

Can’t really report as they pop in and out really fast. I try to get SS and email it though.

But they are baaaack…

That’s not strictly true. Most T5 mats are not profitable to buy off the TP, promote, then resell. However, if you’re promoting T5 fine materials that you acquired yourself (and would therefore need to pay the 15% tax to sell) it’s break-even to slightly profitable to promote Potent Blood to Powerful Blood for sale. It’s significantly “profitable” to promote that T5 blood if it’s for your own use (and therefore not subject to tax). You can actually make a decent margin promoting blood if you’re sourcing the raw materials efficiently (low buy order/high sell offer).

But remember, T5 Fine/Common promotion isn’t the only thing using that dust or the forge. Promotion of Cores to Lodestones is an almost identical process that is actually profitable across multiple types. In fact, a quick glance at the pessimist sheet I have shows that only Crystal and Glacial promotions are non-profitable right now.

My guess, more people are salvaging rares from the boss and getting more bolts. I would guess the price will go back up when they change the boss/rare drop rate.
