Will BLT gathering tools always work?
They obviously will, why in the hell wouldn’t they? I mean a mining node is a mining node no matter if its t1 or t6, t7 or t800. Come on man.
INB4: Hey Go-Guys Check make sure to buy the new Super mining pick from the gem store for 800 schec..gems, Its the only pick tough enough to handle T7 materials!
But i severely doubt it.
TBH they’re more of a rip off than the copper o matic.
It’s not that much of a convenience since buying a single Ori pick lasts long enough already that’s it’s not big deal, and you still have to manage picks whenever you get a bunch of high quality low quantity tools anyway.
That and the unlimited pick is worth like 800+ ori picks in gold lol.
AND it’s not account bound (insane).
The copper o matic is atleast account bound and has atleast some convenience in replacing 25 charge basic kits and freeing up inventory space on white items once in a while.
That plus w/e possibility you stated, I think unlimited ori tools are the biggest scam they’ve pulled so far lol.

I found the unlimited gathering tools to be a worthwhile purchase. I spend a significant portion of my play time in non-level 80 zones so I would previously keep tools of multiple tiers on hand. In some cases multiple tools of multiple tiers. This would tie up more of my inventory space than I liked.
Account bound vs character bound ? No difference to me.
Of course value is subjective. What is an appropriate value to me may not be to someone else, and of course the reverse is true as well.

Most people don’t see a reason to ever gather anything unless it for daily, or orichalcum ore if its right next to them, as they can just do something else and use the gold made from that to buy w/e mats they need.

We can argue why it is or is not worth it, the point is it is unclear, and ever since the first tool was released it has been a question if it will cover all nodes forever. Yes, I agree it really should, as I stated because they cost a lot. The point is to clarify it so a few people that are a little hesitant to buy will then buy it.
For feedback on the fact thakittens not that convenient, or its not worth it… Yeah I know, that’s why I’m on the fence on buying it or not. Tell me for sure it will be good for T7 mats or mats in an expansion, and I’m not on the fence any more, I’m buying it.
Thanks for the “Come on man” though. Helpful.
I was under the impression that tier 7 mats would be crafted using tier 6 mats or something of the sort. Is there any indication at all that tier 7 mats will come from gathering nodes ?
I just geared up 4 alts with the pick axe I missed during the original release. I didn’t get the harvesting sickles because being color blind I can’t see the plant resource nodes on the mini map anyway so unless I run straight into one I pass over them. I didn’t see the logging axe though I want more of those. Maybe I over looked it.

Have not seen anything on this. Mostly trying to clarify their intentions on the gem store item gathering tools. The answer to your question would somewhat answer mine, but what about “T800” as previous mentioned, or whatever you gather in full expansions?

Then you are asking the wrong question. IT WILL work on all gathering nodes, you just want to know if t7 mats will be gathered via nodes. Delete this thread and remake one asking the right question, or you are going to get off topic posts 99% of the time.

Ummm…. lol. No. I dont care how T7 mats are gathered. I want to know if the gathering tools were designed with the intention of working on all nodes even nodes that will need to be gathered in the future.
This is my last reply to you as I forsee this turning into an argument over nothing and you provide nothing to the conversation that is useful.

What about the next nodes that come out?

They said in the blog that T7 mats would be crafted from lower tier mats.

Thanks for the clarification. I would imagine, though, that new zones / continents will have higher level materials. IF that happens, will this investment in the 3 tools be worth it and still work.

So then you are asking if… a mining pic will work on a mining node, or a axe will work on a tree node , or a sickle will work on a plant node? You see were I’m going with this?

- Just use orichalhum pick for everything. If the materials you collect are worth more than 4 copper on trading post, you’re good.

Some people like the animation and not having to go buy them ever again.
Some people like the animation and not having to go buy them ever again.
That’s me. I like the animation and I like slapping them in each tool slot and never having to think about it again. It isn’t a matter of cost per use for me. I don’t care.
I avoid them because they are epically expensive and with 11 characters whats the point i’d need 11 of each, its just easier to avoid them, has nothing to do with Tier 7 mats coming..
$10 each, character bound. So for me it’d be…. $90. Mhmm.
Not wasting a cent on those. I wouldn’t even use free gems on that. ANet keeps making dumb decisions when it comes to the gem store. I don’t think they’re losing money from it though, as people apparently love buying keys or something? idk.

They’ve never answered the question because doing so would basically confirm their far off plans of how the game will be expanded. The next tier of gathering nodes would either have to be extremely rare (horizontal) or above level 80 (vertical progression). With the way they’re currently going however, there won’t be any higher tier nodes for quite a while, since they’re basically skipping a tier with how they’re doing T7 materials. If they continue in that direction, there will never be any new nodes, and a T8 material would be extremely grindy and take weeks to make (imagine having to make a charged, charged quartz crystal).
The tools were advertised as permanent orichalcum equivalent tools. The other reason they won’t say is because they won’t be upgraded. There’s a big difference between telling someone that as they’re going to buy it, which would basically be telling them not to buy it, and telling them a year from now when an expansion comes out and they’re more likely to accept it, since that’s what expansions do.

I’m more sad that people waste their money on it, pretty much ensures the rest of us won’t get items in the store that’s actually worth buying.
“Well if these people keep throwing money at us for crap let’s keep selling crap! =D”
On a scale of 1 to 10 for importance of things they need to make a statement on….
I’d rate this a 2 :p
they are not convenience items but luxury items.
you buy them, because you can.
so many people?? Your post is the first time I ever heard of that concern, in game or on any website. They are not especially popular because the price is rather high for an item that offers just a small amount of “quality of life”.

If I had it in me I might go find all the posts and link them. Maybe tonight xD
I assure you there are tons of people and lots of posts asking about this.
I also have heard people asking in map chat a few times.

I think you, sir, Have hit the nail on the head.
Not going to buy the tools.
Zehidel added quite a bit to the topic. Maybe you are upset because the person does not agree with you?

I don’t have a side. I have a question. And his answer was to mock me and with no evidence as to why he was right. I’d say that adds nothing. The person I said made a good point would be on the same “side” as Zehidel, except that he didn’t say it was one way or another in a mocking way, he simply said why he expected what he expected and made a good point. Zehidel was nothing but sarcastic and unhelpful.
Being overly sensitive to mockery is probably not the best thing if you wish to post on any forums anywhere.

Op as far as I understood- sorry can’t find the interview- the new crafting materials will be constructed from low level mats but with a time gate of once per day like the charged Quarts.
This serves the purpose of using up lower level mats and time gates the crafting process so that the new armors can’t be constructed instantly.
A for the permanent tools- to answer your question it says on the tools all nodes- that implies future nodes if they are ever added.
I have no idea why you think people are not buying them.
I bought them the first time around for one of my characters and have regretted ever since that i did not buy them for my other 2 mains too.
They are very very convenient- every-time I run out of gathering tools I kick myself a little.
Oh and they look cool but that is secondary for me- I did startle the kitten out of a trial player this weekend when I cut a tree next to him :P
So at this point the question is: If at some point in the future Anet bring out an expansion and if that includes new continents and if those new continents have new materials and if those new materials are in a different tier/s will the current permanent gather tools work on them?
That’s a lot of ifs. A lot of which involve stuff Anet have said they’re not even thinking about making yet. Can’t we jump off that bridge when we come to it?
You may as well ask how Torment will affect new professions when they’re added, or if new races will have better racial elites because of the new mechanics they’ll use. We don’t have enough information to even know what the question really is so it’s impossible to answer it.
For what it’s worth it seems likely to me they would upgrade them because it’d be a very easy change to make and I imagine people will be disappointed if they don’t. But we don’t know for sure.
On the subject of whether they’re worth buying remember that a lot of different factors go into it. What’s expensive will vary from person to person. Each tool works out about £8 if bought with real money, I know people who think nothing of spending that much on one drink in a bar, or a taxi if they don’t feel like walking somewhere. And other people who would have to save up to afford to spend that on anything non-essential. Same with in-game money. What’s expensive to a new player is nothing to a hardcore farmer.
And along the same lines how useful it is will vary between people. If you only have 1 character but you’re constantly jumping between maps and want to gather whatever you come across you’ll get a lot more use from one set of tools than someone with 5 characters who tend to stick to particular zones and only gather what they need.
So for some people these factors match up perfectly – they can easily afford it and would use it a lot, so it’s well worth getting. Other people would rarely need it and consider it very expensive and ridiculous to get. Everyone else will be somewhere in between.

t7 mats will not be mineable with the unlimited picks/axe/sickle. You will require an ascended pick to mine it Why do I say this? because it’s best to assume the worst~

No, you were just a day early… The axe was added today
So many people are not buying the permanent gathering tools from the Black Lion Trading Company because they are afraid Tier 7 materials, or an expansion will negate these tools.
I’m about as far away from being an Anet fanboy as you can get, but I can’t even for a moment imagine that Anet would be that stupid. They don’t listen to their customers, but they’re not stupid.
As for whether or not these thing are worth the game gold? Well, I find them really convenient, particularly since I gave up playing my alt characters. The fact that I gave up on them isn’t a good thing, but this game is really not friendly to alts.
I have a feeling tier 7 mats wont be from gathering nodes in the first place.

unless they update the tooltipes to they are said to harvest all metals, plants and trees

unless they update the tooltips to they are said to harvest all metals, plants and trees
^ Yup. I don’t think this will change because there really isn’t a need even if new tiers are created later, simply because the next wave or so is expected to use multiple combines of current tiers.
Personally I’m glad I don’t have to worry about what i harvest and having to go through the process of either changing the tools i’m using or having to skip the node because i’d “loose money” by harvesting something with a higher tool. Best 2400 gems I’ve spent, but your mileage may vary.
Edit: I will also note, I’ve been playing one primary main for the year outside of a few months break. So for a single character that is predominately played, there really isn’t any downside to these cash shop items. Now if only all of them were this straight forward.

So far we have information about two sources for T7 mats:
1. Colin posted just a few days ago that T7 materials can be obtained from JP’s and mini-dungeons, which is intended to make these areas more rewarding to visit.
2. The blog post that revealed the coming r500 crafting also stated that T7 mats are crafted from lower-tier materials and are time-gated, like Charged Quartz.
Both those answers suggest that T7 materials won’t be harvested like T1 – 6 materials, so I think it’s fairly safe to go ahead and buy the unlimited tools with the expectation that they will work on everything forever. I know I certainly did, on 5 alts no less.
i think that in the future, that if they ever do decide to introduce another pick, they’ll update the ones from the gem store to work with the latest iteration of the pick – there’s no reason why it shouldn’t, given the cost of owning a full set and it’s soulbound condition.
Though a consequence is that if they don’t it could severely break consumer confidence if they do release similar items like this in the future.
