I was waiting for after Hallowe’en to open my chests because I don’t care about the skins or festive tonics.

But then it was extended until the 15th.. right when the new chests are going to begin.

So will the regular chests ever return or will they always be themed for now on?

Your chance of getting a skin or tonic for halloween was extremely low. You should just go ahead and open them if that is your plan. At worst you could sell the skin.

As for the new chests… I just posted about my concerns for another method of gambling for skins again.

The chance was extremely low indeed! I know folks who, between them, opened 200+ chests and didnt get a single skin. A insanely low success rate like that will NOT encourage most players to buy BL keys.

So Anet, if you want to sell more BL chest keys during events like the Halloween event, for the skins or whatever you’re “offering”, you’d best make it worth the money to buy them because getting nothing for one’s cash dos’nt fly.

I’ll be honest – I haven’t seen a reason to buy gems for keys since launch.

Unless I’m mistaken (and I could be) every key purchased is like a lottery ticket, yes? The few drops I’ve gotten have, in general, provided me with what I would consider junk (tonics) and that’s pretty much it, except the 2 salvage kits I’ve gotten.

I can totally see buying gems to get bank space, or bag slots, or character slots or even skins that you like (I have yet to see a skin on the Gem Store or via RNG through the chests that I thought they were worth REAL money to buy), but the chests are 100% a gamble, right?

I guess I was thinking about what I would actually spend money on in the game (because while I like no sub fee – I realize that Anet also has to make money somehow), and so far I’ve bought 2 bank tabs (and I have 400 gems left over), and one of those bank tabs is 75% full of tonics, and the other 25% is boosts that I don’t think I’ll ever want to use, that I seem to be keeping in the hope that, one day, I’ll maybe think they’re useful (didn’t happen during Halloween).

I guess what I’m wondering is if I don’t think the RNG nature of the BLC keys are EVER worth the gamble – what does Anet think I’ll ever buy?

Per the Wiki – the only things that I would think are “worth it” if I bought a key and got from the chest would be are the Fine Transmute Stones, the Permanent vendors, and the Salvage Kit. But not one of those items (or even all of them together) are ever worth the gamble of not getting any of them if I spend $ to buy a key.

I can pretty much promise, though, that I’d have purchased all 3 permanent vendors if they had a fixed cost of gems (IE, not at all tied to the chests/keys).
