Will Gem prices ever again fall below 3 Gold?
I doubt they will ever get below 3 gold again. I do think, however, the 3 gold range could definitely come against once people have things to spend money on again.
It’ wouldn’t surprise me if it hit 5g in the next couple of months.
That all depends on what ArenaNet releases for the GEM store. Two things made is rise. The large influx of gold and secondly the sales in the gem store.
ArenaNet have consistently created;
- new farmable content, and at the same time
- desirable items for the gem store.
This combo will drive the value of gold through the floor. It seems to be a workable business model, but don’t expect to be able to afford anything in the gem store without the mighty RL$ in your hand.
i really doubt it will go down to even 4 gold.
Every time the price rises, due to new interesting Gem Store items, it hardly goes down.
So, get used to it, 5g now. And will rise more in the future.
It will stay high or rise as long as there is a steady high source of gold generation compared to things to spend it on that remove (remove, not exchange) gold from the economy.
Supply. Demand.
Maybe it’ll drive away the 3rd party sellers away… which can only be a good thing!
I doubt it.
I’m sure there will be a lot of stuff to buy with gems before the end of Q4 2013. Like any business; reaching revenue targets is important to shareholders.

This. They could add gems to the “pool” (and if you don’t believe it you need to get out more) but they will not for the stated reasons. Just picture all the “s” letters as “$”.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
NCSoft/Anet is not a non-profit organization. Their goal is to make money, and the more money they make, the more “stuff” gets put into the game. When they stop making money, they cut back on expenses and the game suffers.
If they really wanted to gouge their customers, the only ways to buy gems would be with cash or plastic. That you can buy items in the cash shop using only in-game currency is a bonus to begin with.
My wife used to play Farmville and similar games, until she realized that you reach a point where you have so much “stuff” that you need to buy a bigger farm to fit it all in. But there’s a limit to how many tokens the game gives you towards that goal, and to get a big enough farm you have to use a credit card. Many games are set up this way, with GW2 you never have to spend real money on anything but the original fee for the account.
I agree. GW2 is better than Farmville. ;-)

Well said friend, it’s good to hear someone understands this. GW2 is one of the most honest F2P game models i’ve ever seen. And so I spend what I would usually spend on a monthly game sub-in the gem store. With what has been going on- I view it more as the value of gems is going up rather then gold value decreasing. The fact Anet even gives us a currency exchange device (that goes both ways) is something most game devs wouldn’t do. With enough work someone could buy everything in the gem store with gold. But that’s the point- buying gems is easy because it supports the company- gold takes longer because gold only supports yourself.
Not as long as there’s 20-40 Bots in Cursed Shores on every server now collecting gold to compete directly against the Gem Trade with their 3rd party gold selling.
Time for Anet to do another massive purge.
As long as it drops I’m happy. Currently it’s getting out of control, increasing every week. Sure with all these farming zerg events the overall community gets more money, but not everyone farms their brains out and are left behind.
If you buy a lot of gems with real life cash and exchange them for in game gold, hypothetically you could get the prices down to even below 1g . However this would require some insane amount of money.

How hard can it be to remove the bots!? I can only assume they don’t care…

They do care. I was there since release. I have experienced several bot ban waves. Banning bot networks is not as simple as banning a bot based on a report. They want to first observe so they can collect data on how the bots work. And then mass ban them and implement auto ban code based on the data. So that real players being wrongly banned as bots kept to a minimum.
unless tonnes of people decide to drop real cash for gems and then covert them to gold, its not gonna get better anytime soon.
I don’t think it will.
Furthermore, having the exchange rate high in favor of gems, squeezes profit out of the gold sellers which is something that ArenaNet would want.
If you see a bot – please report it. I would like them to be gone.
The whole teleportation bots are hard to catch in the act – they move so fast… please do something about this.
