Will the trading post EVER get an update?
Just curious to know if anet has ever announced plans to update the archaic trading post system we are forced to use.
I don’t need to make huge lists of basic functions still missing or not working as intended, there are many posts about this already, I just want to know if they have any plans to update this UI or not.
Any info is most appreciated.
Yeah, I heard for 2.0 it’ll be a call center with a switchboard, and you have to keep a chalk and slate to tally items. You’ll be mailed a slip of paper with your bid number on it, and will receive regular updates via telegraph if you’re outbid or have won the auction.
If you DO win the auction, you’ll have the item delivered, via pony, to you character.
Unless the pony and the rider get dysentery and die crossing the river because of a broken axle.
If that happens, you have to start Oregon Trail all over.

I reckon improving the TP is at the bottom in terms of QOL improvement priority.
There are other OQL changes in game that affect a lot more individuals and can be game breaking (such as the WvW queue fix we had)
you are seriously underestimating just how many people use the trading post.
I would even suggest more people use the trading post than wvw.

The trading post right now works for the average GW2 player. It’s not hindering anyone or causing any rage, except for maybe the small 1% of the population that interacts with the TP for the majority of their time logged in (TP traders)
Yah, but it makes no money (or contributes to anet losing money, depending upon perspective), so I’m not holding out a bunch of hope. But it really IS just “functional” – not good, definitely not great – “functional” only.
Net new functionality that would go a HUGE way in improving it would be added filters for items within a given category.
I’m not even talking about advanced stuff like price bracketing or “salvageable” tags (for trophies, for example) – just to be able to filter on armor class or a full description text search (which would still be kind of kludgy but better).
If Anet wants to get REALLY geeky – boolean or glob searching.

Not arguing the arbitrary 1% figure, because it’s unprovable; but insofar as not hindering – that’s probably true, by literal definition of the word.
But I’d argue it’s less than helpful and deters its own usage by being less effective than it should be – friendlier would mean more usage.
All the various trading post websites have varying strengths in helping filter down specific use cases. The existing in-game TP allows you to search for one-to-two layer deep use cases… most a slight derivation off of “I need a level 34 harpoon gun that’s cheap”.
As someone who doesn’t flip or otherwise play the TP beyond occasional guessing of what new skin will be valuable in a month, I’ll say the biggest pair of QoL changes that could happen to affect every player would be 1) being able to sort by armor weight and 2) being able to search for back pieces by category rather than a list of possible names.
As someone who’s been unable to open the TP since Sunday morning, I’ll say that access to it is core to enjoyment of the game and I’ll be grateful to get it back even in its “archaic” form. I have been getting increasingly cranky from the impact of losing use of the TP and Gem Store. Dwelling on it, actually, I seem to mention it in most every post I make because it is so huge a deal to me just now.

I’ll add one more to your list and I’ll be happy: 3) remove/send back all bids that are at/under the vendor cost!!
The core part of the TP is very well done – I really like the buy/sell orders/listings thing and how it’s displayed. Search functionality is the only thing I see lacking. able to search by weight, back items, boolean would be awesome. Oh, also able to place buy orders for more than 250! Honestly, I don’t think those are too much to ask and a developer could probably do it in on a lunch break – it’s the deciding it needs doing that I see as the holdup. I doubt very many developers are heavy TP traders or crafts.
I think the thing I like the most about it is that you can search for “kni exa coa” and it will return “Knight’s Exalted Coat” you could probably also do “kn ex co” but that is much more likely to match something else as well and put what you’re looking for as 4th instead of 1st on the list.

Why does this bother you?
