Hi, I wanted to discuss about the obvious outcoming unlimited gathering tool, the logging axe. In my opinion they’ve been smart to release the more useful tools first, so that people will buy the last, less useful tool only to have the collection completed.

Personally I will buy it only if the look and the animation will look better than the mining pick ones (not speaking of the sickle that I don’t like, it’s too gutless. But I bought it because i use a lot the sicke).

Yep!!! I bought $100 worth of Gems specifically to use on 3 sets of Sickles and 3 sets of Axes (when they’re released). That way, the 3 characters I play most will all have sets of Unlimited Gathering Tools so that I will never have to worry about running out.

In the future, if they decide to come out with different skins / animations for the tools….I’ll consider getting those for my other 5 characters (depending on how much, or if, I’ve been playing them).

The are completely a convenience item for me and have nothing to do with the skin or animation. I know they’re not cost effective until you gather a ridiculous amount of mats, but I really don’t care.

Least useful? I think logging axe is the MOST useful one. Trees are the most plentiful node and I only really bother with nodes because of the gathering daily, so axes run out way faster than the others.

I will get it on my main.
I like the idea of never needing to buy harvesting tools again on that character.
I plan on playing this game for a long time so in the end I will net profit
(expecting 3-5 more years minimum)

Still would love to see these changed to Account Bound. I only bought one each for my main, but I have a feeling that as I level up my alts, I’ll be wanting that same benefit on them as my Ranger gets mothballed for a month. Can’t afford the cash right now, and gold is very hard to come by for me due to my available play time.

Currently have 900 gems waiting for the axe and maybe a swimsuit. It’ll be very nice to never worry about the harvesting tools as my charr pounces around Orr.

Also, I have a feeling that they’ll repeat these offerings later with different themes and effects to keep players (especially new players) spending money.

yes I will get 1.. I am too cheap to get them for more than 1 character lol but I definatly like not having to worry about running out.. which I would do all the time and of course by something I really wanted to gather :P

I will. I bought the pick ace and it was amazing. I only bought them for convenience but I bought the sickle for looks now. At first, the sickle was horrific, but now it is absolutely wonderful.

I plan on buying the log axe. I’ll only buy one tho, because they are pretty expensive

I’ll buy it for sure, so I can get the full set of unbreakable harvesting tools on my main. The prettier the better, hopefully it’ll look better than the sickle.

Definitely gonna buy an unbreakable logging axe, mainly so I can gather every single node I happen to come across without ever worrying about running out of tools on my main.
If it has a cool animation, I’ll take that as a nice bonus

Yeah but they’re the most frequently harvested nodes, so you get the most usage out of your unbreakable axe.

I will and I cant wait for it. The last two tools are awesome. I will buy two of it.

But I hope Anet dont mess it up like the sickle…..after all the “fix” took a few hours to do, whils the version they released was just lame and lazy.

I would love to buy all 3 gathering tool if they are not set for a limited time only. I bought a pick when it was available in gem store. But now when I started a new character I could only buy a sickle. I would also like to get pick for my new character too.
It’s better to make everything account bound.

They will NEVER be account bound, people. Anet is not going to actively eliminate the harvesting tools by making the infinites account bound so they can be passed from alt to alt. Harvesting tools are a gold sink, and the infinite versions are for convenience, for which you pay extra. If you want them for all your characters, then buy multiple. Don’t get me wrong, making them account bound would be pretty kitten nice, but we have to look at the reasons why it can’t happen.

I’ll buy 2-3. For comparison I have 6 picks and 8 sickles.

I just don’t find wood to be that thrilling to acquire and sell. The special drop (treasure bags) is underwhelming. The prices are becoming useful (recently), but bots made picking up wood to sell a waste of time for a very long time.

As I have the other 2 already, I will also buy this one as soon as it is released. I want my main character to be best equipped wether it’s armor/weapons or harvesting tools.

Definitely. But just one, MAYBE 2. I bought like 5 picks but only one sickle, since I’ve mostly got low chars and am overflowing with onions and carrots already. Although I do have to admit that the ax might see the least use, as I am also maxed out on elder wood (my main being a armorsmith/jeweler). I think the best use for these tools is that because of their unlimited uses, it means I no longer have to swap. I used to carry one set of mithril and one of orichalcum, going back and forth depending on the node which was ANNOYING, but I didn’t want to waste the expensive tool’s charge.

Oh, and the special ones look cool, too!

Yes, and probably any other skinned tools, because I’m cool like that :P

If I wanted to earn money out of my unbreakable gathering tools, I wouldn’t have bought them.

Yes. Having all 3 perma-tools on one fast character (thief) means fast easy gathering.

Thats jus the way i am…. If its a limited item, i have to buy it.
I have all the minis aswell… And the hats… Im probably never going to use those minis though.

An above poster said something about potential swimsuits… If those come i cant even explain how happy i would be xD.
Same goes dor dyeing underwear i guess.
The only time i dont buy anything is when the gem store dtuff are RNG/game based.

So far primary elements seem to be the theme for the mining pick and harvesting tool [fire and water] so just guessing maybe air or earth might be for the next one. I think a lightning strike would look pretty cool my self.

If I wanted to earn money out of my unbreakable gathering tools, I wouldn’t have bought them.

Me neither, that’s not what I meant, it would take years to pay off the cost of these tools. What I meant was that you get the most physical usage out of the axe, so whether you buy it because of the animation or just because you don’t want to bother with tools anymore, you’ll get the most bang for your buck with the axe. Kind of a moot point really though, IMO either you get all three so you never have to worry about harvesting tools again, or you might as well not buy any at all.

I’m with ya on the account bound thing . I also wish they would leave these items in the Gem store so my future characters have a chance of buying them .

I certainly will! I already have 4000 gems set aside for 5 Unlimited Axes for my 5 characters. (And yes, I spent 8000 gems on 5 Consortium Sickles and 5 Molten Picks too. I hope it helps send a message to ANet that making stuff like this is what sells, not more RNG crates.)

However, I’m hoping there will be a fourth tool available as well; I’d like to see an unlimited salvage kit, too. Hell, since it can be used to get multiple kinds of materials, I’d be willing to pay extra for it (extra compared to the pick and sickle so far, that is.)

I will buy the axe if they release one. I wish I was around for the mining pick, then I would never have to worry about getting more gathering tools.

Yes. Having said that I’m counting the days until an expansion is released and a new tier of resource nodes and materials become available making these tools obsolete.

This. I think a lot of people (such as myself) would jump at the chance of buying an unbreakable black lion salvaging kit, or even a master salvaging kit, and don’t care about the animations of the tools, but I also wonder what the effect on the economy would be. But to be honest, I would love even an unlimited crude salvaging kit for whites.
