If you want keys, buy them with real money. They are NEVER worth converting gold to gems.

they were kinda worth it when lionguard lyns was around a year ago. 1 exotic trinket for 70s, 3 exotic trinkets for 2000 commendations, 285 commendations for 1 key = 30s per key. BL chests actually went up to like 12c during that time.

If it would be worth it to buy guys with gold, everybody would trade gold for gems until they become so expensive that it isnt worth it anymore.

30s per key? Maybe during the first couple of weeks after the exchange opened (assuming the 5 for 450 gem price). It was over 50s by mid Oct 2013 and 1g by mid Nov 2013.

The 30s he was talking about wasnt through the gem exchange but through Lionguard Lyn. She basically was a material sink for armor/weapons/trinkets at that time, if I remember correctly. Depending on the rarity of the item you donated to her, you got commendations which could be exchanged for various goodies, like keys or gathering tools and salvage kits that would stack to 250.

Most of the recipes were like 3 x fine weapons = 8 commendations, 3 exotic weapons = 600 commendations. but for some reason, 3x exotic trinkets gave 2,000 commendations. at the same time, crafting exotic snowflake trinkets were unusually cheap, so people could make them for like 70s each.
She left rather suddenly, and everyone was very mad about the manner of her leaving. I never crafted those trinkets, but I did buy some off the TP. I had around 200,000 commendations when she left (would of been good for ~700 keys), then she came back without the keys and I had to get a lifetime supply of mining picks and salvage kits (the infinite tools came out a couple months later). Recouped some of the loss via the lionguard weapons.

anyways, sorry to offtrack. yes, I’ve never bought keys from the gem store. major ripoff. most people are dissatisfied with what they get because all the good stuff (permanent TP contract, for example) are 1 in 20,000 chance. Only keys I ever got were from drops, dailies, and lyns. Her closing didn’t exactly affect how many keys I bought from the gem store :P
