nope. I salvaged 1,120 rare charred back warmers on friday and got 4 stacks of ecto + 3 more.
at 0.9 ecto / rare, I should of got 1,008. so I was a little unlucky at 0.8955 ecto / rare

No, I just cracked 164 rares and got over 90% return (150+) ectos with a master kit.

well either case, historically it’s only been 0.65 for me, haha
Masters were 0.9 and BL kits were 1.25. And yes it can vary. Sometimes for me in the 70s. It also depends on the number you do at one time. Runs of bad (or good) luck tend to be glossed over on big salvage runs. But if you are only cracking 10 items, you could end up with like 4 ectos.
For me on 100+ runs, 0.8 to 0.95 ectos on average with master kits, cracking 15 to 20 at a time or however many until I exhaust a kit and then run over for a refill, finish this round and wait for another 15-20 to roll in (I put in bids and camp at the TP for them to come in and to counter overcutters for an hour or so every few days).

also, Mystic Salvage Kit has same return as Master (I normally use Master, but since they threw so many forge stones at me from achievements…)
ilr, it sounds like you’ve been using Journeyman’s or Fine. Unless ectos drop a LOT in price, I highly recommend not using those.

Nope, infact I used to use BL kits for 1/3rd of them and would never break 0.9 … was always less than 0.7 on mystics (went through 3 of those and probably 10 masters in all)
Why would I have ever used anything anything less than Masters?? :p
No small samples either, batches of 25’s-50’s

After the most recent patch, Back Items can now be salvaged..it is unsure whether this was intended or not and was not in the patch notes.
As for the ecto salvage rate, the salvage rate is fine for me personally I’m still getting the amount of ectos I expected, sometimes none, sometimes 3, however it may differ to other players.

yeah people made a crap ton of money from that… there were multiple 1000’s of those back items listed for <5s… which you can now salvage for a 20s gem + a 30s ecto. People bought them by the 1000’s and made 1000’s of gold. I too missed out unfortunately.

137 Ectos for a 0.9133 average.
121 Runes for a 80.37% rate (80% with master kits).

7 Orichalcum Ore
I did notice something interesting early on the salvaging cycle. The first 10 items produced 15 Ectos, the next 10 only 3. At 100 I had 88 Ectos. So sometimes the streaks can be extreme in the short run.

yeah, most back items can now be salvaged. I was a little annoyed by it. A few months ago, I had about 6,000 rare back items (mostly those charred warmers) in storage waiting till they could be salvaged. But I sold them a month ago because I thought this update wasn’t happening.

That’s because it’s random. If you were to ask a person to make a random list of ecto’s salvaged they (generally) wouldn’t include streaks like this… which would naturally occur. Given enough time though it all averages out.
I’ve salvaged a LOT of rares… and now I save up quite a few to do at once so that I can see it average out more in front of me, but there are those times where you don’t get a single one 10 rares in a row and go wth… lol Just part of human nature trying to make sense of something random.

I know it’s random, I was just showing the results of random of small samples. The greater the number you do, the more the CI converges on the expected value. But in small samples, the variation can be quite large leading to the “OMG they nerfed salvaging Ectos again!” threads.
At some point I will attempt to track the number of none, 1, 2 and 3 ectos drop from each salvage because if master kits average out to around 0.9 per I suspect the actual chance of getting none is a lot higher than the average player with no exposure to prob&stats would expect with a 0.9 average. High enough to discourage salvaging the few you may get as drops if you are trying to maximize coinage. Or at least show the approximate odds so players can make an informed decision about rolling the dice.
