You (and everybody else) are not selling enough t6 mats to meet demand.
Hoarders and speculators hoping demand, thus prices, will skyrocket when precursor crafting becomes available.
reason 1) it’s more profitable to craft the mats into inscription/insignia and sell those
reason 2) people like to make legendaries
reason 3) when farmed, they come in slowly
reason 4) inflation
reason 5) they were underpriced before and now they are fairly priced
They werent underpriced. There was a same price for 6 months
people dont farm t6 content
max exodus in cursed shore

I bought thousands of Elaborate Totems for around 10 Silver each. And I’ll be unloading them when the new Legendary weapons come out, and prices spike to 40 Silver each.
More and more people reach the point where they can afford to build one or multiple legendaries. Even Eternity and multiple legendaries arent a rare sight anymore.
Enjoy it while it lasts because T6 will skyrocket a TON when new legendaries come out + precursor crafting, but only for a short time.
If you plan on making the new legendaries you should stock up now.
I plan on making at least 2 of the new legendaries on patch day and then taking advantage of the inflated prices.
Remember how ridiculously inflated iron ore/ingots were for an hour or so during Escape from LA?
Well imagine the same thing happening to T6 mats. I can easily see T6 mats rising to 60s each at a minimum an hour after patch day. This is because extremely rich players, or players who want instant gratification are willing to pay a huge premium to be the ‘first’.
These prices won’t be able to sustain themselves for long, but for only a few hours as people start to sell their excess inventory. I would personally take advantage of mystic clover gambling, though of course I could see ectos end up getting spiked shortly to 50s as well.
Good luck making 2 of the new legendaries on patchday. We dont even know the recipes for them. I wouldnt be suprised if they would be completly different recipes with ascended mats and the precursors will cost more than the old legendaries in the first days.
It’s safe to assume that others will assume the same mats will be required for Legendary Gifts, so prices will spike.

It’s unlikely to expect new recipes for the new legendary weapons. There is no rationale for it, anyways. Legendary trinkets, however, are more likely to be different but I have prepared for that.
The precursor would be the most immediate problem, considering the likelihood of timegates involved. But that can be easily solved with forge gambling, or throwing thousands of gold at it on the TP.

Forge gambling will also be a reason why T5 and T6 mats will spike.
1. New t7 mats like dragonite contain obsidian shards (=karma sink)
2. New t7 mats like deldrimor steel use ectos
3. Many people dislike getting Gifts of Exploration and Gift of Battle got a joke due to achievement chests
So I can see them replace Gift of Fortune and Gift of Mastery with something new. 250 bloodstone bricks, empyreal stars, dragonite bars, 250 deldrimor steel, do not seem unlikely to me.
Also why would you waste a huge premium on getting the precursors fast? If you wait you surely save 100s of gold.
So personally I will wait and see before assuming the recipes for new legendaries will be identical to the old ones.

Yeah, I just hope that precursor crafting/scavenger hunt is difficult enough to leave gambling as a viable alternative.
I’m actually very glad that we will be having a long break until the content patch. It gives me enough time to farm all the gold to invest in a wide variety of items that are going to spike. If it drops in May, that’s enough time for me to farm +3000 gold.
I don’t know what ANet’s plan is, but I am assuming that they are a little more sophisticated than that. A long time ago in order to keep supply for T6 balanced out slightly with demand, they increased the drop rates of many of the T6 from bags and other places. I believe that if they are going to introduce new legendaries that incorporate entire stacks of T6 still (there is a chance they may change the recipe or require different, new mats), they will simultaneously introduce new sources for those materials in order to keep T6 from reaching the 60s mark. They may still spike and you may still be able to make thousands of gold, but I genuinely don’t think they will rise and maintain those higher prices in the grand scheme of things.
Where is the information source for these new legendaries to come out? Can someone link it plz.

your proposed recipe does not drive gem sales, so it will never happen. Fortune will 100% stay because it is a large part of Anets profit margin. I personally know 5 people who have bought their gift of fortunes using RL money.

Or we’re just speculating based on the speculation of other players’ speculations. Sorta like “I think I know what they’re thinking I think I know.”

ANet actually posted back last July that we would see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013, but later on in December noted that this had been flexed into 2014.
I must say that this inflation is one of the worst thing in this game, you can’t keep gold because you’re losing money, soon these mats will be worth 1/1g.

That’s why we have John Smith to prevent that.

Actually research was done that showed the inflation rate has been normalized.
Also:
-Inflation is expected in any economy. Hyperinflation is the one you need to be worried about.
-Just cause a price rised for a select number of items doesn’t mean there is inflation in the economy. It’s called price-inflation.
