is there limit for buying gem
Buy gem cards from Best Buy & redeem those?
There’s a safety thing so you can’t buy too many on one card. Or have too many transactions too soon, at least. Use another card (if you really need to) or wait until tomorrow.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
$200 on gems? Wow.
That alone is more than 3 traditional expansions, except GW2 has no expansions, nor does LS even add up to one, since it was temporary and done in an hour each time.
It’s also more than a traditional yearly subscription!
I’ll never understand why people do this.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.
Because they consider it worth? If you have no gem store items there are plenty of items worthwhile to buy. Or they could just want more gold. $200 is jus pocket change to some players. I spend more than that on coffee per month.
I bought 30,000 gems with 2,000 gold back in december. They limit you to 200 gold per transaction, so 10 transactions. I know it’s not the same, just saying it’s funny they limit buying gems with cc but not gold.

Never judge what people spend their money on. That could easily be an hour of work, or 8 hours of work. But the enjoyment that can come from that, even if it was 8 hours of work, if that saves him/her from having to grind 20-30 hours in the game isn’t that worth it?

Probably because buying with gold has no real life consequences while buying with money can. They must be trying to limit excessive impulse buying where people spend more than they can afford and then contact support asking for a refund. It costs them money to refund credit card purchases.

I’ll judge them all I want thanks. People like this are why we don’t get actual content anymore and just fluff. They are directly impacting my game experience, so I will feel free to judge them.

You’re absolutely right about this. They do directly impact your game experience, since without their monetary help, the game would completely stall and servers would eventually go down. Having said that, I feel the need to say thank you to the OP.
THANK YOU!

As others have said, it’s done mostly as protection against the possibility that someone has stolen your credit card details and is making unwanted purchases.
Only limit I know of is self esteem. Do you buy a game to play it and accomplish things or buy your way through it to pretend you did the former?

You could look at it from the other side of it. Like say, if people wouldn’t spend so much on gems which shows anet solid support for what they are doing, they would be forced to create real lasting content in the form of an expansion to make money. IMO that would be better, but to each his/her own I guess.

I find it more ridiculous how people feel they is something to “accomplish” in a video game other than to have fun especially in an mmorpg where at any moment you could lose it all. The point being there is nothing to be accomplished that is tangible or even worthwhile and to feel superior because you force yourself to do unfun is just sad.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Odd…..I was under the impression that any if not all of the achievements, spvp ranks, wvw ranks, dungeons, story lines, attaining lvl 80, maxed gear, cosmetic gear, titles, spvp tournys, mini games, world events, map completion, and basically anything in the game with a defined goal is something to accomplish.
It would be really odd to have this type of game without all those. Maybe it’s just me, but then again maybe not.
since i purchased 16000gem (8000 × 2) (with credit card)
i can’t buy gem anymore
it fees like anet don’t want to make money
wtf
This is a safety thing.
File a ticket or otherwise contact them and they will remove the cap for 24hrs or some other specified time.

It wouldn’t be odd because games had been doing it before Xbox Live with respect to titles, achievements and blah blah blah.
Everything else exist solely because games need something to pad out their time since you can’t have infinite content.
Your original comment was about how people that spend $$ to gold don’t feel accomplished and all you did was projecting your POV onto other players, admittedly I did the same with my response.
Short of hacking or anything against the rules or being stupid in PvP, as long as the individual enjoys the game there is no right way to play a game.

For almost anything you get through the gem store, all you really avoided was a time sink in the game. You can’t really buy your way through most content that is a real accomplishment. I really wouldn’t drag this into a self esteem issue, that just seems like projecting or straw man. either way, just don’t do it.

What kind of coffee do you drink ?!
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
I remember when I was making my first legendary I bought a bunch of gems to convert to gold. I think there is a cap around $250-$300 per month per credit card. I had to use another to get the necessary cash I needed to finish it.
It is a safety they’ve put in place. You can just go to a retailer and purchase the cards, they are just a little more expensive and time-consuming.

I live in a large city so prices at local coffee shops are a bit steep. Usually $7ish for a large drink including tax/tip. My usual one a day after lunch adds up to way more than i spend on gems per month.
I think Anet has a limit on how much you can spend on a CC over a certain period of time (to prevent huge losses on hacked accounts where CC info has been saved).
Post this over at the Accounts Forum and Gaile can possibly confirm this.

I ran into this problem a while back. Not sure if things have changed at all though as this was maybe 6 – 8 months ago. I contacted support and they told me that they have a $300 limit for SAVED credit cards for the purpose of younger players racking up unknown charges on their parents card. They told me to delete the saved info and then renter the card for one time use (same card). I did this and I worked for me. You can always use a different card as well.
I forgot to state that it is $300 per month for saved credit cards, just to avoid any confusion.
In other NCSOFT games, there was a limit per account of how much can be spent per month. It’s there to limit loss caused by credit card theft. But in those games there was a setting in your master NCSOFT account where you can set the limit. Since this game isn’t under that master account, I think it’s between you, your CC vendor and the games support personal to try and work around this.
