NEVER spend more money then you are willing to lose
Lurk these forums. A lot of information is given out.
Do your research. The two sites I visit most often are the wiki and spidy.
Know all sources for an item
Buy low, sell high
Edit: Diversify. Buy and sell from several different markets so if something unexpected happens, other markets will compensate.

Since t6 mats are reaching 50s soon , try to buy some heavy bags.
Know all sources for an item
All good advice from Schizo. I singled this one out because it is CRITICALLY important.
If you don’t know all the sources for an item you WILL get burned.
I’ve given this advice several times on this forum but here it is again http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/3461 buy these with jewler 500 most likely to come out soon and these being at almost 1/2 the price to buy as they are to craft they should make a good initial investment. Charged bands that come from CoE often have these same jewels in them if they are rare or exotic variety I cant remember.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
Judging from OP’s question it looks like he wants something to supplement his daily income as opposed to long term investments for larger profits.
If this is the case, especially since this can require a lot of initial cost and not making money for months, I would instead look at setting up daily routines instead of the specific examples given. Crafting and flipping can be good for this.
