level 80 Thief (Vincent Nightshadow)

people, the competition on selling prices for items has driven them to the point where they are nearly worthless. I’m referring specifically to crafted items, such as bags. You have to buy ingredients to raise your levels and you make little to no profit. Rather than pouring gold into bottomless pit, Have some patience, match the previous seller, and go do something else while you wait.

Crafting has always been a bad way to make money in GW2.
The bags you are referring to are sold below the cost of crafting because people first craft smaller bags, then they get more money and craft bigger bags and then just want to get rid of their smaller ones.
Yeah, crafting has always been good for leveling (less so now than before, if I understand correctly), but bad for making coin. There are windows when crafting is profitable, particularly for a particular set of items (such as rares which can be thrown in the forge for precursors), but the market always adjusts. Unlike some games where crafting is a means to financial gain, crafting in Guild Wars 2 is meant to ensure that players have controllable access to almost everything but skins. The highest weapon and armor tiers are craft-able, with trinkets being one of the few un-craftable things of note. There is a bit of a grind (I think I spent 20 gold getting my Huntsman from 0 to 400 a week ago, and getting it to 500 (I don’t even have a need for Huntsman, so no) is around another 100 gold), but it allows a non-luck based way of getting functional end game gear (exotics), the best in stat gear (ascended), and plenty of tiers leading up to these while leveling to 80.
tl;dr: gw2 crafting is for accessibility, not coin.
Clearly you guys are not crafting the right things. I can make about 15g a day just from crafting for about 5 minutes.
u can craft all the way to 500 and not loose any gold.
It costs you more cos you want it now and want to level off it.
Having said that there is a way to make instant profit from crafting, ofc alot less tho.

if it was easy, everyone would do it. the items you see as nearly worthless to craft are the easy ones, and everyone does them.
bags have been negative profits since launch, nothing new there.
the more obscure you get in the items, the more profits there are. trust me, they’re there.
If you want to make money on crafting these are the only ways.
- Rare dungeon recipes
- Skill point recipes
- Limited to once a day recipes
Basically anything that costs you time.
Very few final crafting items will ever make you money.
Now intermediate ingredients (inscriptions, insignias, parts) and raw materials have much better potential.
