the value of laurel
1 laurel = 2 unidentified dyes. So 35-40s.

I think the value is a little greater than that. I’m not disputing the whole equation, but when we are talking about a time gated item like a laurel I think the value is higher than what you can trade it for.
It would really vary from person to person. Some people come on and play everyday like me and do my dailies and monthlies so I have a couple hundred of them atm. To others who don’t do that, the value would be way higher because they have less of them.
I don’t ever trade them for gold, hence the reason I have so many. I bought my ascended items and I keep em in case I roll another toon or anet releases some other cool gear or maybe they might be used in legendary crafting down the road. It’s not something like karma where you can just farm as much as you need.
Depends what you would trade it for. The dyes are the least valuable thing you could trade yoour laurels for. T6 material bags give much more worth per laurel. And if we look at ascended trinkets then we’re looking at 10g+ of value per laurel.

Ascended trinkets are now worth 200-300g?
Laurels are worth exactly what you can get from them. If you can’t convert them into 10g then they aren’t worth 10g.
The best investment you can make is a toss up between Dyes and Rare gear. Though with the price or Ori and Wood going through the roof, the T6 bags might be averaging high enough to be a better option at this point.
Considering laurels give you acces to unique BiS items (Read acsended necklaces) makes me think they’re worth a fair deal of gold/silver. However, if we look at an absolute gold value from dyes/T6 bags, then a laurel would be around 40-50s.
In the end it all depends on what you’re doing with your laurels. I’m personally hoarding them myself for future releases

Laurels are a limited supply item that cannot be traded. You should be hoarding them. There are plenty of ways to make gold in this game without laurels.
Arena net will probably use laurels as a time gate currency to get other items. Laurels are like banked time.

Except that some players already have dozens, if not hundreds, of laurels stockpiled. Tying newly released equipment to them would have two effects:
1: Those players who have a pile set aside would be able to get the new items immediately or much sooner than anticipated. This negates the effectiveness of time-gating them in the first place.
2: Those players who do not have a pile of laurels will complain because others have access to things they do not. This leads to dissatisfied customers and makes them less likely to put in the effort to get the items, because they perceive themselves as being hopelessly behind from the start.
So, if they want to time-gate equipment, they will most likely do it without laurels, instead introducing a new currency or other requirement so that all players begin at the same point, instead of a small number of players getting the items immediately and a lot of players complaining about it.
One laurel can buy a t6 material bag which consists of ~40s worth of t6 materials inside. While converting laurels to gold isn’t the best strategy, it’s simply a matter of preference.
If laurels were tradable i guess theyd be linked to the price of 2 unidentified dyes…
But who would buy a laurel for 35silver? I wouldnt.
A better and more fun question would be:
How much is a laurel worth if everything you can buy with it, is account bound?
My guess is that theyd be 10-15 silver at one point, but raise to up to 50 silver after that

You’re making it sound like the equipment is required.
It could be entirely cosmetic. Part of the recipe might require crafting and another part might require an account bound item purchasable only via laurels. The point is that laurels is what will prevent Arenanet from creating other currencies. It’s a very safe bet that there will be more things to buy with laurels in the future.
Laurels are slightly worth more than the best item you could trade them in. It’s time-gated and limited.
You only get 1 per day and 10 per month. You get more for hitting achievement milestones.
I personally would hoard them and only spend them on stuff you can’t get anywhere else (tonic, ascended, e.t.c)
Selling them off for mats would be risky if Anet releases new items for laurels

Laurels are worth exactly what you can get for them on the market (which is going to be the value of the dyes since T6 mats are flooded right now).
Worth is exclusively monetary in nature and should not be confused with value. Laurels are time gated materials and are thus more valuable than they are worth.
