thick leather sections
Someone (or a group of someones) is trying to increase the price of them. Notice the 6 digit listing at 20c?

Despite the fact that even if this is what is happening I can’t see this working, I am still tempted to sell what I own at 19 copper.

This is why. You can trade in leather sections for special boxes full of items during this event.

What’s funny is whoever bought into this hype over 9c spent more per sanctum box than 4-5 other mats they could’ve possibly traded in (unless the conversion rates change this time around, which i doubt they will)
It’s probably going up because of Zephyr Sanctum. Last time you could trade stacks of materials for various items, and leather went up in price just like all the common mats.
I’m choosing to wait and hope that the Zephyrites want my 40+ stacks of Bloodstone Dust. XD
maybe this time it will need blade shards, they do tell us they will do something about these bladeshards right?

Of course the conversion rates will change. Anet are not going to have the same silk rate…
Not sure why you assumed they would not change, seeing as they are a supposed to be a way to dump current over-supplied mats.

Considering that the supply boxes from last year were introduced as a mat sink before asc crafting came around, i wouldnt be surprised, if wood/ore/leather/cloth arent tradeable at all this time around.

I hope those material trade in not gonna happen though because they are needed in ascended crafting now but they would take blade shard as they were tipped in earlier announcement.
The exchange rates for Halloween and Wintersday items weren’t exactly the same in 2013 as they were in 2012 (although December values were closer than October’s). So I expect the rates will change again.
Still, anyone who bought leather at vendor +1c isn’t going to lose more than 2s50 per stack, making it a near-zero risk speculative move. I’m only surprised that people are willing to sell their mats on the TP at that price in the first place.

I agree, and would imagine crafting materials for Chef/Jeweler may be included this time around. Though I would argue anything (crafting materials/gatherings) with Buy/Sell orders near vendor cost should be considered if people are looking to speculate with low risk.
Figures, I go and refine allllll my leather in squares, and most of that into Ascended items, and then this happens. Maybe if I delete all my bloodstone and bloodstone sink will show up

Well, i dont know about chef/jeweler mats being included, it wouldnt really make sense to introduce a mat sink for them before you can level those crafts to 500.
I bought up some t4 dust yesterday though, as dust in general can use a mat sink and i am not certain that it will be included in jeweler 500 (whenever it goes live).
I also liked, for the most part, how they introduced the Spinal Blade Backpieces and how you upgraded them in rarity. I hope to see more of that and wouldnt be surprised, if they introduce another back piece in a similar way with the next update.
I especially liked how you could craft the gift of blades with the 3 different armor professions as it pushed the leather price a bit, compared to Shadow of Grenth and Wings of Dwayna, for which you HAD to use Bolts of Damasks and couldnt opt for Deldrimor Ingots or Elonian Leather.

This is actually a smart thing to do, if you want to speculate on prices of t2-5 leather to rise in price (unless you sell them right away).
If low tier leather rises in price, so will Elonian Leather, which will use way less storage space.
If you consider that you need 250 various leather sections to craft 1 EL Square, you can basically store 62500 leather sections within your collectible tab for ELS.
Thats pretty neat.
And if you started crafting your daily Spool of Thick Elonian Cord with your huntsman since asc weaponcrafting went live, you will actually have 250 of those right about now.

its spiking up again half of the thick leather sections are gone from the trading post wow!
What is the theory on the demand POST patch of this? I can understand speculation ahead of it but now that it is among the most expensive mats to exchange why are people still buying it in droves? It is the cheapest mat in value but I believe in rationality… what am I not seeing?

most people aren’t rational.

most people aren’t rational.
Or at least, their reasons aren’t what we expect. People still sell items in bulk on the TP for vendor + 1c, i.e. a loss after fees. I’m sure they have a reason for this, even though it eludes me.
People also continue to pay premium prices for items with special names, but with skins identical to those available on cheaper items.

Agree that people do things one could call irrational but due to ignorance (of TP fees or of cheaper skins).
On the Thick Leathers I saw them being bought in bulk lifting offers so perhaps they now something (or are speculating on something) I don’t know about…
Thick Leathers still have speculation opportunities, but that’s down the road. Once the vendors leave and the Thick Leathers drop down to 8c again will it be good to invest again.
Quartz is also a goodbuy opportunity right now due to it’s drop in price. I’m currently replacing my silver ore stocks with quartz while I sell them.
I’m certainly taking advantage of the lower Quartz prices to pad up my bank collection a little. Being a hoarder and all that.
I’m devastated. ;[
I just finished selling all my Thick Leather. And the grand total of selling everything? 500g.
So either of these things happened:
1.) I misremembered my investments of Thick Leather – instead of 400g invested, I only invested 130g
2.) There is an artificial limit to how many items can be stored in the TP. Once you reach this limit, items are deleted.
I swear I invested 400g…but this was many, many months ago, and it’s possible I mixed up my silver ore investments of 400g with Thick Leather.
I’am a sad panda.
400-something gold profit is still nothing to sneeze at, ya know.

I was waiting for my 1400g profit but had to settle with 400g

You could give me the 1000g you did not get to even it out.

No, you would have about half that because you sold most of them off when the spinal backpieces spiked the price.
