Q:

Hi all,

I wonder… is it allowed to trade by mail frequently in large amounts and with a lot of gold, or will Anet give you a warning for this?
If not, it would be nice to set up a website where traders can meet and trade per mail.

Not against the rules, but you also won’t get any help if you get scammed.

This ^^

If someone steals 10000g from you then that is your fault, nothing will be done to them and you won’t get any of the money back. Every mail transaction is a gift and is treated as such.

If it’s not against the rules then it’s just a matter of organization.
That’s not easy on internet but maybe it’s worth give it a try.
The only thing you need is trustable mediation.
For high priced items it would be a nice solution, beause the 15 percent fee is still a bit strange. In the real world you have a fixed price fee. I can understand that this won’t be nice for small amounts of gold, but the percentage of fee would be lesser if the price of the item is higher (in my opinion).

So why not mediate for a small amount of gold.
Person A mails the gold, Person B mails the item, both to C (the trustable mediator).
And then the deal can be closed.
It’s a deal that’s okay for A, B and C.

it’s in my nature to look for creative solutions.
Just for fun.

Or ‘C’ scoots away with the gold AND the item. It’s risky. Not so bad if you both know the middle person I suppose. Your risk though, can’t see Anet taking any interest if anyone did get scammed.

Found pottering around on Desolation (EU).

However off TP trading frequently may trigger a gold trader alert that could bring your account under scrutiny and they seem to have a “assume you are” ban first reinstate later policy with a sorry. That may depend on the amount of gold and the rarity of the item mailed. And this is on top of the “get ripped off” problem.

I’ll gladly take the role of mediator for a small 5% fee

Yep. They sure might. You get a nice reject at log in telling you that you have been permanently banned for gold buying, selling, botting, etc… You then get to contact support and wait while they unban you, usually a day or so. You also get a forum vacation because you were bad. This on top of a chance of being scammed.

You can do off TP trading if you want, just need to keep this in mind.

And by the way, when/if you get reinstated, you don’t get an apology.

If you want to sell an expensive item directly, instead of risking having to keep re-posting due to undercutting, agree a price with a buyer first, then sell via the TP.

It’s better to pay the 15% deductions from a successful sale, than to risk losing 100% profit from thieves. (and if they are not planning to sale, you still have a chance of selling on the TP, if your price is competitive)

Progress blocking bugs are top priority, but not all bugs are so easy to fix as others, be cool :)

From this thread: this thread

zerotwo.4731:
“A player offered to sell me 20 charged lodestones for 40 gold. In trade he didn’t bother sending the stones. I reported him but will I ever see my gold?

ShiningSquirrel.3751:
“No, Your gold is gone forever as well as the load stones. The trading post is there for a reason, if you choose not to use it, you are on your own and support will not help you.
You can report them (which you already have) but that is pretty much the end of it.
Take this as a lesson learned, never trade outside the trading post.”

“I think this about sums is up. I’m sorry that you were scammed, zerotwo, but highly recommend that you use the TP in the future”!
