I’m stunned at what was said during the panel when someone asked about charr armor and if it will get fixed. Basically, they care most for humans and least for lesser played races (charr).

I hate playing humans, yet it is the race I have the most of BECAUSE of the neglect every other race gets. This never ending cycle won’t fix unless they pay attention to the other races for once.

If Anet doesn’t care about charr then how the hell are we suppose to?

Indeed, Anet cant say that charr are 13% because only 13% of the players like, or prefer charrs. I have 7 lvl 80s, of them only 1 is a charr, 2 are humans and 2 are norn. Even my engineer is human but the reason is not because I prefer human. The charr are my favorite race and I would like to have many of them BUT if I do my armor options is too limited: If my engineer were charr I would be stuck in the cultural T1 forever. By making it human I can have multiple armors that looks good on him.
Bottom line: you play a big role in keeping charr population low Anet.

When i first started playing i rolled char because i love the whole ‘rawrr ima eat you’
aspect of the race(and when i play i like to RP and give my human friends a hard time). When i played WoW, my main was orc for the same reason. But like everyone else, i can’t stand the armor models and just settled for the average vigil/racial gear because that’s the only thing that isn’t ugly. Admittedly this has been a big turn off for me and i have started to play him less and less, partly because i want a few others toons at 80, but mostly because i cant stand the armor. I haven’t watched the twitch stream, but after reading what they said about char, it makes me incredibly sad. I’m hoping A-net does what they do best and do the opposite of what they tell us and make the char less ugly

I still can’t believe how they put it on the live stream. It basically amounted to: ’ you picked the wrong race to play.’

Armor doesn’t fit charr well. A good number of people don’t play charr because of it. Making it look better takes low priority because the majority play human. So they won’t fix the armor that is causing less people to play charr…

So if that’s how the prioritize what they work on am I doubly at the bottom of the list because I’m an engineer too? One of the least played classes.

Are charr always going to get the short end in future development too because they have to cater to a majority? Leaving charr players always waiting for ‘when they have time.’ Well when they’re always working on new stuff, designed to fit humans well, I don’t see that happening now that I know that’s how they prioritize.

I rarely get angry at the development decision in the games I play, but this feels like one of those times. I just honestly can’t tell if I’m more upset or crushingly disappointed knowing I’m always going to be the lowest priority.

Well, here’s to another year of cultural armor.

I think they would be unpopular anyway because beast races always are but armor certainly isn’t helping.
This and the buggy churned out content we get for the LS every 2 weeks is making me think A-net doesn’t give a toss about quality. It feels like they just cut corners everywhere to pump out crap as cheap and fast as possible.

My (and my guildmates) jaw literally dropped when we heard anets response to lack of charr armor and options.

The only thing my characters look halfway decent in is cultural which most other players opt for as well. Really kills the diversity and uniqueness of such a fun race.

Here’s to hoping before they even think of releasing a new race that we get some love :<

it does really suck that they essentially alienated us for playing the minority and if this was only a problem for post launch armors I could somewhat accept that response but this was a prelaunch problem where the majority/minority factor has no influence in the design of said armor It strikes me as strange

Heavy t2/3 forever.. t1 has too many clipping issues and doesnt look well
Medium T1 forever.. I don’t like t2 nor t3
Light t1/2 forever.. T3 is a joke and i won’t be surprised when they will release that armor soon to humans

If not t3 for my war i would actually reroll race, thats the olny thing that keeps me up playing it. Lore about them is nice but can’t make up for that visual look of armors.

I’m very disappointed honestly. I am one of the people who would play Charr if they had better looking armor. Heck, I actually had an 80 Charr guardian in the first six months the game was out. I ended up deleting him because of how disappointed I was in the armor choices. The only thing that seemed nice on him was the heavy cultural…

I’ve considered rolling charr ranger and ele since then, but when I go to the pvp locker I’m reminded why I don’t have one. There’s nice choices for light/med, much better IMO in contrast to heavy, but its still far and few to the large variety a human (sylvari/norn/asura) can pick from…

Massive shoulders, removal of horns, removal of hair (this is shared by the other races, but there are some armor pieces that I think specifically remove hair only on charr), clipping, stretching… it just blows my mind how awful the charr armor is and yet it takes a backseat because “meh, only a small pecentage.”

ANet, can you at least write a comment on this thread?
We don’t need you to tell us what’s right and what’s not. Just tell us that you recognize this to be a problem and that you will fix it.

I have 3 lvl 80s and 2 of these are Charr. 1 male and 1 female. The other one being Sylvari. Charr has always been my favourite race and the first moment I saw one in GW1 I thought “this is the race I want to play”.

GW2 came out 7 years later and I truly love the game in many aspects. But the amounts of bugs, especially on the armors are really killing it for me. Even if you combine 2-3 sets of only culture armor, bugs will still appear. And it is by far worse when you combine these with other armor sets. I’ve seen things like holes appearing somewhere on the body making me able to look through my character! That’s how terribly buggy it is!

Why are players not so interested in these races?
Ask the players, read their comments, create a Charr yourself and try mixing gear of different sets together.
There are many more visional bugs than you realize!

Guys, guys… Let’s look at this practically.

I just logged into my year+ old Charr, after getting his birthday present, which means he is at least a year old. Walked out onto some sand, what do you know? Footprints for Charr are still backwards after more than a year. A year, how much content has been added to this game in the last year? Without a simple bug fix for an obvious afterthought?

How many ways can they show you they just don’t care about the race?

I lost a lot of respect for Anet here.
After all of the hard work that they put into this game, all of the detail in so many places, they can so casually just push off this glaring issue of sloppy charr armor. The only reason I am still playing this game is because of the charr. They are so well-written and full of personality, not to mention super cool looking (in the few armors that look good). To hear that they don’t care about this race just because of numbers baffles me, it makes me feel like I don’t matter, as well as makes this company look sloppy and lazy. I spent a lot of time defending these guys, and I understand that they have big plans for this game, but their utter disregard to simple bug fixes (not even just in charr related territory) really makes Anet look bad, as well as makes me lose faith in them.

If players are being treated as less than other players just because of a different choice of race, then the problem effects more than just people who prefer charr. Heck, show that Q&A to some people who play all humans by choice and the ones who aren’t totally selfish will probably be disturbed by the dismissive and disrespectful treatment of the player base as well. As such, I don’t think this topic should be limited to the charr forums, where NO ONE ever looks. While continuous lack of care for charr armor is a big part of the issue, to suggest that 57% of your players are more worthy of your time and attention than 13% of your players, I think, might have a pretty far-reaching impact, besides just being inexcusable.

The worst thing we could do at this point is stay quiet and let this continue to happen…though giving up and deleting our beloved charr to make humans just because the armor looks nicer on them is in a close second, as this just adds to the disparity between charr and humans that ArenaNet are using as a shabby justification to apply percentage values to their paying customers. It’s not my place to tell people how to enjoy the game they paid for and invested their time in. Just a thought.

That’s the spirit! Although, it should be noted that we don’t want to make this a “charr thread” or it just gets shipped back here, where no one will see it. It would need to be made clear that this isn’t about making the charr the kings and queens of Tyria to the detriment of the other races. It’s about all players getting opportunities to enjoy the same content (specifically armors, the acquisition of which make up a significant potion of post-80 game play) regardless of the personal taste that led to their choice in race.

If what race you pick is a multiple-choice question, there shouldn’t be a wrong answer!

But as strong as the temptation may be to weave our messages with profanity and put-downs in light of Daniel’s response, it’s of the utmost importance that we remain civil and level-headed. Posting in a thread on the forum is not going to be enough, but if ArenaNet sees that their fans can be more mature and considerate than it now appears they’re being, they’re like to weigh our thoughts more carefully than a thread that devolves into another fantasy racism flame-war.

Edit: The general discussion forums are on fire with drama about ascended weapons and SAB right now, but more people really should be mad about this.

I’m curious if perhaps a survey of sorts could help make a statement as well? I know Anet has the chart with percentages for the races, but I’ve heard it’s the same chart from the start of the year (unless nothing has changed since then?).

Maybe a survey could answer some questions as to why those who main human or whatever don’t play charr. Or you could see if people had charr and deleted them, then ask why. I know forums would be a small sample size, but it may show that some people don’t play charr due to armor issues among other things and that there would be a bigger playerbase making charr alts if their armor/graphic issues are fixed. The survey could be linked on on the reddit/gw2guru as well perhaps?

Excellent idea. Every little bit helps. Presently, some friends and I have taken to reporting the really unforgivable charr armor clipping issues (that is to say, most of them) using the bug report function > Armor/Weapons > Visual/Art. It seems like that category is there for just that reason. Is anyone else thinking of contacting Daniel and asking him just what he was thinking in giving that response/who put him up to it? Likelihood of getting a satisfactory answer is slim, but likelihood is absolute zero if nothing is done and people are allowed to go on thinking that’s an okay way to think about your fans.

As much as I’d love to believe that was true, the statement regarding them “doing us justice, given the time and resources” struck me more as a move to placate the chunk of their fans they pretty much admitted to neglecting because of a lower population of players.

I’ve been enjoying this game in spite of the terribly limited armor choices for most of my characters for a year now, and would patiently wait for armor fixes bit by bit, as long as I knew they’d at least happen eventually. Even barring the fact that armor on all races should have been of equal graphical quality before launch, going back and modifying a lot of your work when many people seem to be shaking you down for new content can be time-consuming and stressful. But the fact that even brand-new armor skins on the trading post, ones that are intended to be bought with real money, don’t make accommodations for one of the playable races they designed in the first place raises some questions about how the designers regard a significant portion of their players (I consider 13% a large portion of the GW2 community). It turns out that the answer to those questions is unfortunate and kind of unprofessional one.

I still enjoy the game deeply and my character select screen is still crowded with charr I tried to make look as good as possible given what I have to work with, but the game definitely feels different when I know that ArenaNet themselves appear to favor one playable race option over others, rather than just the player base. And not for the better.

Is it possible that Daniel’s answer was a nervous slip of the tongue in response to a question he didn’t see (but really should have seen) coming, and that I’m worried about something that may not be the case? If so, that was an oddly specific and clear slip-up. If that’s really how things are working at ArenaNet, it needs to be addressed by the fans its affecting before this catch 22 situation of “need-more-charr-before-we-fix-their-armor/need-fixed-armor-before-we-play-charr” starts a vicious cycle that dwindles the charr population even more and, as an unfortunate consequence, lowers the significance of those charr’s players in the eyes of ArenaNet as compared to races with higher percents on a census graph.

The percents of asura and sylvari aren’t really that much higher, if that year one graph has any accuracy to it. Only a 3% and 2% difference, respectively. If asura and sylvari receive the same treatment as charr, by the same logic, this is roughly 45% of the characters who “don’t matter as much”. Not really the most admirable business practice.

But do continue playing your precious kitty kat. I’ll be doing the same.

Edit: Before I forget, in the above paragraph, I’m aware that asura and sylvari don’t have the problem with armor skins to the same magnitude as the charr. I was disregarding the quality of armor skins to focus on the practice of paying less attention to a portion of characters with a smaller percentage population than a larger one, as that disturbs me far more than struggling to find good armor skins for my favorite race.

What he said…

But seriously, sylvari and asura do have their problems with armor. Asura more than sylvari and charr much more than asura. That’s a fairly large player base that is being treated like second class compared to the ‘human’ player base.

Like someone else said in this thread, I’ve lost A LOT of respect for Anet because of this and I hope they’ll manage to redeem themselves. First, by responding to this godkitten topic for once -not while being caught off guard and without any consideration- and second, by doing what they feel they SHOULD do with their game and not be swayed so much by the outcry of the community or the larger player base. Then we’ll see where they stand.
