Dogs or Rats? I am conpuzzled, I can’t quite work out what they are supposed to be.

Felines. I thought it was pretty clear, or maybe I’m just used to it.

Oh boy.

I’ve had long discourses with friends (some of whom art) over what they are, specifically. It’s… odd. Anyone mind if I break it down?

Face – Predominantly either feline or canine, the women having some more domestic cat features, whereas the males having some domestic dog (pug) features.

Ears – They’re very bovine. Specifically goat.

Horns – Again, they’re definitely bovine in nature, though some share qualities with herbivorous creatures from outside that genus.

Structure of neck/torso – They’re neckbeasts, and that along with the elongated torso coupled with shorter legs makes them look very, very much hyena.

Tails – These are feline. The women have very snow leopard-y tails, the men have tails like male lions.

Hind paws – The claw shapes are feline, but the shape of the paw itself and where the claws sprout from gives it an almost bear-like quality.

So… I don’t know.

They seem to draw inspiration from a number of elements of the animal kingdom, but I think that rounds up most of them.

They’re chimeras (the technical term for a creature made up of bits of other animals, not the Greek monster).

Goats aren’t Bovines, and Bovine isn’t a genus, it’s a subfamily.

Bipedal Cat Monsters.

I’m not saying they’re aliens, but…

They’re cute kitty cats, mixed with a flesh-eating demon ^^

My charr isn’t a “cute kitty cat”, she’s 400lbs of feline ferociousness. CHARR GO RAWR!

They’re Charr. They have a lot of very feline features, but really they’d probably be classified as something separate. Hard to assign a familiar label to a creature that evolved on a different planet.

Yep, I wasn’t firing on all cylinders when I wrote my thing (lack of sleep and worry over my cat being ill). But hopefully people got the general gist. Calling them chimeras tends to be a very good descriptor, actually. I hadn’t thought of that.

Kudos to Vormund for citing that. To be honest, I’d go with that. They are, quite generally, just a mix of things.

And kudos to ArenaNet for actually creating a bipedal, sapient chimera.

They are kittens! Cute kittens with…horns.

The mix of different creatures is one reason I love Charr the most, one of the most unique looking races in an MMO ive played

Charr strike me as mostly a combination of bears and the big cat family.

Unlike big cats though, I firmly believe they can purr

Ever watch Disney’s Beauty and the Beast? The males don’t look incredibly feline to me. I know it’s an inspiration but I see them more as typical, ferocious beasts with an odd mix of animals rather than specifically cat-like. The females totally are though.

They are Charr, case closed.

Also due to the profanity filter I can’t tell if people mean baby cats here or if everyone is just incredibly vulgar XD

Charr are 85% feline, 10% bovine, and 5% canine.

Arenanet describes them as “demonic hell-cats”

As people have mentioned, they seem to take elements from a variety of creatures. Personally, they look like Cat-Dragon hybrids to me. Some of their faces do have a “canine” cast, but still with heavy feline influence.

If they are cat like why do they take falling damage? Hmmm…. there is a conspiracy somewhere !!! Best i can say they are beastmen !
