Charr Horns and Head Armors
yeah, agreed, as someone who has four charr characters, three of which are scholars, it can be really irritating to get decent looking hoods, thankfully, I’ve managed to use the “transmutation unbinds starter items” trick to give my necro the mesmer’s Fanged Dread mask, it looks more like a skull than our own facepaint :P
I’ve been transmuting the appearance for the hood from the Oldgate armor set (karma armor out of diessa plateau) for the past 30-something levels for that exact reason. I’m not interested in masks or circlets, and all the other hoods I’ve found cover up the horns.
My biggest complaint is the tail
I have found 3 armors that dont clip with the tail
only like 2 of them looked any good.
Just why.
Even dungeon armor (which often varies by race, and in some cases was made specifically for the charr [as the charr armor looks vastly different than any other race] ) has kitten tail clipping.
Well obviously the best fitting armour for Charr is the Charr racial kit. The Generic armours need work though, especially the ones with long coats as these almost never have any kind of tail hole for their Charr versions. If you’re a medium armour user the Arah dungeon medium set is very nice, as long as you hide/transmute that frikking awful mask. The fact that the coat not only has a tail hole but actually an armoured tail protector that extends out about 30cm along the top of the tail and moves in sync with it is a very nice detail. Now can we have some more of that on the rest of the armours please?
Kinda sad that both Charr’s and Necromance class has the lesser love from ArenaNet
Yup. They got lazy with the charr armour. Both for tail and horns. It is straight up lazy. All about the money and none of the passion I remember them having. Again, I don’t blame them for that, but things like this erode my will to play the game.
See, I always had this ideal that they’d be better than that. But they aren’t. Oh, their writers and artists are, but as I pointed out in another thread, their writers and artists aren’t the ones calling the shots as to where resources are allocated or what’s worked on and how much.
To be honest, this looks worse than WoW in some places and I was amazed by it. I ended up just working for the Heritage armour and using that exclusively just because all charr armour looks so bad.
I went from recommending this to beast loving people to warning them off of it because of how bad the armour looks. I can’t, in good conscience, recommend this game as much as I originally felt I could.
I wish they’d just spend some time and fix this…
But that’s not where the money is. :|
The worse looking headpiece on charrs are hats (medium). Small and not fitted properly.
While I agree that Charr hats look terrible, frankittenhere’s little else that can be done: the variety of Charr horns makes it impossible to customize the hat to fit – you’d have to make a different texture for each horn type, and then tie the helm size to scale with the horn size.
I just wish that, instead of hats, there were more things like the Engineer’s monocle to be found whilst leveling. Similar to the dungeon helms, the monocle was clearly adjusted to fit a Charr’s face. Goggles, glasses, visors, etc. could all serve as a nice stand-in for hats.
The dungeon helm and armors are really nice though, so +1 where it’s due.
What I’ve always wondered, with helmets that the horns stick through, is how do they get it on there?! You’d think there’d be some sort of slot or something, since this big piece of metal probably doesn’t just stretch over their outward-pointing horns.
