Do Charr commit to each other in marriage?
Do they raise cubs together?

Not sure about the marriage.

Most do Rauderi. There are a few Charr who prefer raising their kids themselves, though they’re considered odd by Charr society. And then you have those brilliant Charr in Lion’s Arch (pre-destruction), who think so out of the box that one thought about starting a fahrer to teach kids of all races in LA.

I’m sad I missed hearing that! Then even the little mewling human cubs could learn to be psychotic kill machines.

I still haven’t run across much on Charr mating/pairing, though. Anyone spotted a wiki or something with that aspect of their culture in it?

Conversations with NPCS and idle city chatter suggests that often one parent winds up raising the cub til they’re old enough to be sent to a Fahrar, at which point the parents basically become uninvolved in the cub’s life.

I imagine with the strict military society, and being in constant service to one’s respective warband and more specifically, legion, a true partnered marriage would be unfeasible.

^Outside of two charr who are farmers (as ruled by the almighty society). There are a few cases where it could work, but outside of those cases it won’t most of the time. I can imagine how jealous some of the charr can get of those who have the freedom to raise their own kids (basically any Charr living in a village or at Lion’s Arch).

Charr farmers do raise cubs together; this is certain, although there are a little of proofs. It is impossible to send all cubs to fahrars to form warbands, because it would be too complicated to maintain ranches.

Also, I don’t think the partens would be too fond of giving away their cubs, especially if they are rather neutral about the Legions, so they would try to keep them by themselves.

I would assume not since they don’t really seem to have a reason for formal marriage. They don’t raise there own cubs (usually) because they get sent to a fahrer. There are military based and get assigned where the fahrer says they are suited so you don’t get combining business and wealth and their family is more their warband than biological parents. You don’t have one tied into the home and looking after kids while needing another to provide income. They would pretty high mortality rate as well and unless they are in same warband would be moved around a lot so they probably don’t have a thing about pairing up for life.

All evidence thus far suggests that most Charr relationships are not permanent. Two Charr meet, develop an attraction, and stay together until the passion dissipates and they go their separate ways. Any children born of these temporary unions are sent to the nearest fahrar, where they develop bonds with their fellow children. Some Charr take pride in knowing they come from famous lineages, but as a whole, each Charr rises and falls based on his or her own merits.

That said, I wouldn’t put it past gladium or Charr who have grown up away from the Black Citadel and the Legions to have adopted the relationship/family norms of the society they live in. The Charr couple deciding whether or not to send their cub to a fahrar in the old LA is one such example.

Except not all Charr subscribe to the Legions. Marriage can happen, but I must admit its somewhat rare.

I have a Charr Warrior that is descended from an Iron Legionnaire, but grew up to be a pirate and then later a Lionguard.

So if you are outside of the Legion system, any number of things can happen.
