Charr run animation
I love the Charr on-fours running animation. I’m shocked there are people who don’t, actually.
Speak for yourself, when I first saw that I immediately fell in love with the Charr.
really bad engineer
I love the Charr run animation. Its awesome. I already tend to sheath my weapon when not in use in all games that its an option, but especially when I’m playing my Charr the run animation guarantees that I always sheath. It just doesn’t feel right running otherwise. Heck, I’ll actually sheath my weapon when running to other enemies during combat even (like if I kill something melee then need to run to another enemy attacking at range, I’ll sheath to run to them).
It bugs me that NPCs never run on all fours though. Wierd when I’m running with a group of NPCs and they’re all on 2 legs while I’m running on all fours.
To each their own and all. I would riot if they removed the Charr running animation. I already hate that the new Wintersday jumping puzzle shoves a package into your hand, thereby forcing Charr out of their running animation.
Clearly a lot of people do like the run animations. I for one do not.
I’ve noted that NPCs were already using the two-legged run animations in the beta.
I have also suggested during Guild Wars 2’s beta that there be an optional toggle for the Charr between the four-legged animations and the two-legged one (note the optional).
So it’s unclear what Anet stands on this. Easiest thing for them to do is nothing. Although I’ll really like it if they implimented the suggestion.
It’s baffling how charr NPCs will always stay bipedal and charr players will go quad.
I almost never see an NPC besides cubs run, really. Except in combat, but then a player is bipedal then too.
I’ve seen Flame Legion running on four legs before. Mostly the ones with greatswords.
I love running on all fours. really brings the charr personality.
I hate the animation, and would not be playing a Charr because it’s so annoying….
However, all you have to do is draw your weapon and you run normally. Problem solved.
When are people going to figure out there’s a war going on?

I think running on all four is kittening awesome. I love being charr, I love the way he speaks.
I see a lot of people on both sides of this issue. Me, I think it works well. In the end, think like a Charr:
“While my body is capable of running on two legs, it is optimized for all fours. If I want to chase down an enemy, do I want to look dignified, or do I want to catch them?”
Besides. Charr WALK on two legs. Toggle off running, and they will walk upright. The only times they run in such a manner is if they need their hands to hold something, preventing them from loping along.
Personally I find the charr bipedal run really goofy looking, especially when hit by enemies while having your weapons sheated! The four-legged run looks more natural to me XD
If you have a Warrior with a Greatsword, the Rush attack has a really, really cool four-legged charge animation.
As a Norn, I be jelly. Real jelly…
Do you even lift, bro?
My Charr has juggernaut and has to have his flamethrower out all the time, so he always walks on two paws…
That bugs me horribly, It’s so unnatural for a Charr to walk on two paws, it looks like a giant, fuzzy Igor.
I love their four legged run
they should have added movement speed on it since 4 legs are better than 2.
Four-legging running is great, but it’s kind of odd that Charr NPCs never run that way.
Seriously. Also, my problem with the animation isn’t that they run on all fours. It’s that they don’t run, they bounce, like Tigger. There are NPC animals with perfectly plausible looking four-legged running animations; why they didn’t adapt one of those, I have no idea. The “boingy, boingy, boingy” Animaniacs running animation is the #1 reason I rerolled all my Charr alts.
“I’ve two hands and some lovely…apples.”
“How do humans walk without tails….”
[Resting atm :)]
I love they way they run, I think it’s awesome.
It might be nice to allow a toggle between running on all fours, and the upright ‘jog’ that the NPCs usually use.
I love the fact that the Charr run on all fours. It gives them a special racial flavor. I love a lot of the charr animations to be honest… sleeping, acting surprised ect. The devs gave the charr a lot of love in this area that it’s sad to see that most of the other races emote animations are pretty much copy and paste.
You have what you have because you do what you do.
I like the thought of the four-legged running animation, but there are two problems with it, both of which have already been mentioned. First, because Charr are so big but run at the same speed as all PCs, they feel way too slow for the animation; second, the animation is rather poor – hands and feet hit the ground at almost exactly the same time, and leave it similarly. It’s the same thing wrong with the Worgen racial run animation in WoW, albeit with somewhat less flailing. As others have said, it’s not running, it’s bouncing.
I love it until I run a jumping puzzle and my charr decides to switch to quatropedal walking in the middle of it.
As a char, you gotta decide whether to use skills during a jumping puzzle(and then use them regularly to stay bipedal) or to use no skills at all. Changing the animation mid way can make you fall off quite easily.
It’s no big deal once you got used to the animations but at the beginning, I’d advise against running any lethal jumping puzzles.
Aside from that, the four legged sprint is kitten!
edit: kitten = kickkitten

Most hazardous part of jumping puzzles, I find, is the camera. In tight spaces it can be just about impossible to see which way you’re going.
Ok, i don’t find Charr running animation that bad but seriously a 2 meter agile animal is running turtle speed, that’s what’s bothering me.
Running speed is horrible. I’m not playing a Chinese F2P cash-sucking-machine of game here. Turn the running speed up. I know you want to give every ingame race the same speed but this is totally wrong.
Make Charrs a bit faster and you’ll see how most people will play them. I’m feeling awfully bored with the running speed, i feel like i’m playing a character that is running in slow motion, and it’s not my gaming rig i’m sure.
I’m now complaining very much but this is an issue i can’t come to go arround.

The worgen run animation just looks plain silly. It actually looks normal when your character is scaled up and the animations are slowed down; it looks much more graceful and natural.
It’s pretty obvious that they were designed to cycle through the animations at much slower speeds than regular scaling and mount speeds.
It might be nice to allow a toggle between running on all fours, and the upright ‘jog’ that the NPCs usually use.
I wouldn’t mind a toggle. I don’t always want to run with my weapons drawn, and I don’t always want to run on all fours either. The animation is there already and used – Enter combat and sheathe your weapons. You default to running on all fours as soon as combat ends though.
For the toast!

I don’t have a problem with it, but they really should sync the animation more with the run speed.
The animation itself is great, but since charr are so big they appear to run way too slow for their size. Thats the only thing that bugs me about it.
Yes, they run on all fours at the same speed as a human jogging?
Same problem with Norns really. They seem to be running in slow-mo at times.

Yes, that’s the problem with the different sizes of the races. I was stupid enough to pick the second tallest option on my norn warrior and he runs like he is constipated
But tbh his running speed is more realistic in the long run.
Anyone but me who finds the human male running style a little weird? Looks like he is out skiing without skies…
I actually really don’t like the 2 legged animation, it looks really clumsy.
However the four legged running animation is awesome and elegant, well on my leopard like female charr. I reckon the four legged animation should be default.
:)

Nothing wrong with the animation. It’s just that it seems to go in slow motion.

I suppose if it was speeded up a little, it would make it seem like they were running rather than skipping. haha.
I love how the charr run although it seems that they’re just a tad duck footed and they kick their legs high when they jump not enough to bother me just stuff i’ve noticed btw all my chars are charr

I love watching how charr run on four feet. It looks lovely.

Yes, nothing wrong with the animation. It’s just that it looks silly when it’s so sloooow. Running on all fours would be alot quicker then running on two legs, so charr should naturally run much faster…but then it wouldn’t be fair to the other two legged races, gameplay wise!
I think it’s great! It adds to the theme of the class. Asura run around goofy, Sylvari look like they’re running away from something. Humans look like humans and Norn are annoyingly slow.. It’s the best running animation in my opinion.
I love it. I manually sheath my weapons after battle just to go back to running on all fours. Unfortunately, as other have mentioned it makes you feel painfully slow even though I know I’m running at the same speed as my other characters.
I like it but its weird how the npc charr run on two legs
I agree completely, the on all fours run animation would have been a nice idea, had it not gotten in the way. I struggle to complete jumping puzzles with my charr that I have no trouble completing with my human and norn characters. It upsets me a little because I got my charr to a high level and now i wish i had made my main character a different race.
can’t you just unsheath your weapon before you jump?

And what you suggest? Remove running on four feet and make it run on two? xD
I don’t have problems with jump puzzles when my charr is running on four feet. It’s a matter of habit.

I have the opposite problem, Im so use to doing jumping puzzles on my charr characters that when i do it on my one non-charr I find it difficult.
Rragar Ragehammer – Charr Warrior
Achilles Adrastos – Human Warrior
running on all fours is cool. although sometimes I think the charr run more like bulls rather than kittens. i mean charr’s are kittens aren’t they?
My first character I wanted it to be a charr cause they are just so majestic. Running with a group people, the charr just sticks out and shines.
