Charr stereotype
I’m a Charr warrior because I love the Charr and I love the warrior class…. sooooooooooo……
The comparison of gw1 charr and gw2 charr is not fair, the charr on the second picture are female and naturally don’t look as ferocious. There are some hideous faces/looks for males though (even a few for females but males have more aggressive face options)
I noticed it too, though, there are a lot more charr warriors than any other profession. I doo see many rangers and guardians too among them, though. I think the warrior is usually thought of as the most brutal and ferocious class and it fits a big brawny, clawed beast like the charr.
I myself have never had a charr warrior however Only ranger, elementalist, guardian, thief and necro. Light armor charr in hoods look like cats peeking out of a sweater’s sleeve
I agree with that u’r comparisson between Charr in GW1 and 2 is not fair. Far from all charr stood upright… (and that looks constipated to me… or something). I have never had a Charr Warrior either.
My main is Ranger and my 2 secomdaries are Guardian and Mesmer. All are female.
Some of the reasons I have Heard of might be the armour though. The Heavy armour in charr has the most good looking pieces. That is commonly said in discussions about the matter…
The entire NSP server literally has 2 Charr mesmers in WvW. I’m one of them.
I think the main deterrent to playing a light armor Charr is the lack of good armor choices. There are only two or three armor sets that look decent (T1, Sorrow’s Furnace, Vigil). This prevents most people from making light armor Charr in a game where the entire PvE endgame revolves around collecting cosmetic armor sets.
I have a female charr mesmer, tripple rare, one of the least played classes, in the least played race, and the less played gender for that race too! There is a lack of good charr friendly light armour. I recomend keeping the starter mesmer mask, and getting fanged dread. That actually fits char very well indeed.

I have one, as well. My only female Charr, but I do have a female-form Sylvari (since Sylvari don’t actually have genders and don’t reproduce that way…). Female Char Mesmer. I plan to keep the mask, though if I get one of the blindfolds, I might be tempted. Her colors are pink and purple and white. She looks very regal. No pix, yet.
fans hate Joffrey. They hate her the way Star Wars
fans hate Jar Jar Binks.”-not a direct quote, but still true.
Charr Mesmers: the Original Lolcharr
Charr are race, forget in battle. In the past, they were shamans and warriors with many traditions. But later, after the Legions were formed, the Flame Legion, which contained shamans started to rule others by “false gods”, which were just a savage monsters from other dimention (if I remember correctly – something about that) other Legions found out they are fooled and rebellied against them. Without shamanistic, magic power, those Legions had only their tactical plans, muscles and brains, able to product machines, that’d help them against their foes.
“Rely on iron, not the false gods” – popular words of many charrs. They put faith in their own strength not magic, so yeah – engineers, warriors, thiefs are mostly used as a charr. Because it fits their lore. In this game, warriors are not only blademasters, but either marksmans, shooters. Warriors are backbone of the charr and as such, they may appear in many specializations.
For the High Legions.
My main is a charr warrior because, after I developed her physical appearance, that profession just fit best. She’s very tall and extremely heavily-muscled. Considering her physical talents lean toward strength and endurance, warrior just seemed to be what she would have been naturally inclined to in the fahrar.
One of my alts is a charr warrior as well. She’s an idiot. Since magic takes patience and intellect, engineering takes patience and intellect, thieving takes the ability to be quiet, and rangers have to like (as opposed to torture) animals…. her complete lack of smarts and general noisy demeanor left her with no other option.
That said, I also have a charr necromancer, elementalist, and engineer.
Like someone above me said, you can’t really compare the charr from guild wars 1 and 2 that you posted. The GW1 charr is male, the GW2 charr is female. Gender dismorphism accounts for some of the appearance differences. Also, the GW1 charr is a SHAMAN. Shamans back then forced their naturally-curved spines to be straight because it was a cultural norm at the time. Since Shamans fell out of favor, spine straightening is no longer practiced among the playable legions. Flame Legion shamans still stand straight though.
At the end of the day, people play charr warriors because it fits their military culture. For the same reason, you see a lot of sylvari rangers and asura magic-users.

Yep, playing to “theme” and archetype can be lots of fun if a class/culture combo looks interesting in terms of lore, aesthetics and gameplay. So of course my warrior is a Blood Legion charr. When making a “ground-pounder” as the intro cinematic rightly called her, why not go with the species that is best suited for it both physically and culturally? I admittedly have a hard time taking tiny and scrawny warrior-types seriously.
And yes, there’s the armor issue to consider. You always have tail-clipping and texture-stretching and hover-shoulders, but heavy armor in general looks better on charr than medium or especially the foppish light armors.
“I am Charr.
In this world of constant conflict, I am the deadliest weapon of all."
Yep. He’s gonna be a Warrior. XD

You know that that saying has absolutely nothing to do with magic right?
I don’t think there’s any contradiction between magic and the Charr. The Flame Legion are hated not because they’re magic users but because of their historic oppression of other legions and their theism. Of course, the Charr do often think magic users are weak but you say that to my Charr and there’ll be more than burnt fur.
I have all professions and all of them are charr so does that count?….
SE Medium charr is literally the best armor for a charr
No tailclipping? Check.
Not stretched to ugly? Check (helmet sucks though)
Actually looks good to begin with? Check.
But then again, all armor for the heavy classes looks good on charr. Or at least better and less sretched. And don’t even start with the light armor -shudder-
Attached a screeny of charr mesmer, i think the light armor is ok, but theres very few sets that actually do look good, you end up mixing and matching to get a decent set. ~eh, kinda ignored the tail clip for that, cuz i like the coe pant’s logo.
SF guild on Jade Quarry.

I thought Ash Legion was a perfect fit for a mesmer, actually, so that’s what my main is on both accounts.
I am a charr iron legion warrior and I’m trying to fit the stereotype
As much as I can. Trying to get a perfect steampunk look for him and only mildly dissatisfied with his gloves and boots now.
However I have alts of other professions, my favorites being guardian, thief, engineer, and necro. I don’t play them very much and I realized it is because they are not Charr. Now I have many new alts to level <3
I find running around as a humanoid boring as the charr as just too pouncey not to play. All my characters are charr, 1 male and 5 females. I don’t play for any other reason other than that XD
Getting a heavy armour for a charr that’s not cultural or dungeon that looks good is difficult.
That said I gave up with armour for my male mesmer…
I made my warrior a Charr simply because For Great Justice and Battle Roar are awesome together.
