Hey I have noticed that newer players across the forum seem to have a set idea of what they want their character to be, but are somewhat unfamiliar with the lore.

As such these players seem to struggle to chose or regret their choice in the opening bio, so I had an idea to help out my future Charr: pair up some professions with the Legions.

Though please note this is not a rule set but a guide line for people who want that particular style or theme (maybe for an RP character) but are not too familiar with the law.

The magic professions will be included here too.

Blood Legion: Warrior, Ranger, Guardian, Elementalist (on the front line giving the Flame Legion a taste of the own medicine), Necromancer (here on popular demand )

Iron Legion: Engineer, Warrior, Guardian, Elementalist (could use there powers to aid in forging)

Ash Legion: Thief, Ranger, Mesmer, Necromancer

Rangers are good in Blood Legion. Their pets and traps are very useful. And Rangers can just blitz everything too, cause they don’t just use arrows.

Just my opinion, Necromancer is the odd one out, doesn’t really fit anywhere. (profession) means it could fit but a different legion seems better.

IIRC Iron Legion has elementalists

You’ll see a lot of Iron Legion guardians and warriors (as well as engineers of course) among the Charr NPCs and the Ash Legion stalkers use quite a few necromancer spells. Blood has its share of rangers, but they’re typically close combat fighters, whereas the ash rangers tend to prefer the qucik shortbow over the long.

Yeah. There are a lot of necros in Ash. I think these classes go in these legions.

I’d just like to add that I’ve seen Ash Legion warriors. Ash heavies are pretty few and far between but they’re out there. If you want to see one anytime, use your warband support elite as an Ash Charr.

Ash heavies? No wonder they don’t appear often. Their warbands would be like “What are you doing in Ash?” That’s what I said to Maverick and Dinky.

All classes fit in all legions. e.g.: I have an Ash Warrior because the legions use their classes diffrently. Blood may have alot of warriors and meet their enemy on the field of battle in broad daylight but Ash might send their rogues and sabotuers in under the cover of night tio hit the soft targets. Then when the damage is done send in their heavies under the same cover of night in an ambush to hit harder targets. As the Ash leader says, “Blood may lose soldiers but Ash legion doesn’t.”

Actually, I got inspired to make an ash warrior after seeing the Ash heavy at the beginnning intro when you first make an Ash. heavy black armor, red eyes, huge sword, awesome looking.

While all classes fit into all legions, most legions have certain classes that are more common, while others are almost impossible to find.

Agreed. The classes that exemplify each legions strategies will be the most plentiful in each legion. But my point is that if you want to play a certain class, any disappointment about wich legion you chose can be avoided becasue each legion will use the same classes diffrently. Just as you will find a myriad of personalities in each legion. even loudmouthed warriors will be found in Ash as long as they know how to shut their trap during their special operations.

I’ve never really had this problem, but that’s because I spent hours going through the lore and making choices on bio, classes, names and other choices.

Ive started with Blood Legion and when i get the choice between the 3 others later i will choose the whispers group think they called. My guy started on the battlefield and then went behind the scenes :P

My warrior us in iron legion. He uses greatsword and a rifle. I’be got a guardian in ash legion and a flamethrower engineer in blood legion. I don’t think classes should be excluded from specific legions because working independently, each legion will need specialists of all classes.

For instance, ash could use better guards and may need a heavy in certain situations to protect their less study scouts and assassins. Just like a ranged heavy legion would need melee classes between them and the enemy.

the guardian may seen a little off to some,but in either legion they may fit,as body guards,heavy infantry or special forces ^^

to be fair, any can go anywhere. using eles as an example, there is the obvious use as a soldier, but there is also their use as a living toolkit, they can arc weld, quench, sandblast, and heat, their magnetic abilities can be used as a temporary glue substitute for metal, and their ability to create things out of stone instantly means that they’d never need tools “why do I need a hammer? I have all of these rocks”

that’s not to say they wouldn’t fit in ash legion as well, both as assassins, saboteurs, and infiltrators, creating a vacuum in a room to kill someone by suffocation, boil all of their fluids away silently, make a guy fall down some stairs with a carefully places patch of ice, cause an engine to overheat, use rapid heating and cooling to induce thermal shock in metals, rust gears and machinery by getting water in the places that you just don’t want water to get , weaken the structural integrity of their buildings and machines, make two gears stick together at the worst time with magnetism, mask your footsteps by making a layer of vacuum near the feet, freeze the water beneath your feet for over water infiltrations, turn a wall into sand, make the ground into mud. so many possibilities :P

necros can raise armies of undead on the front lines, slowly but surely kill off camps of enemies with poison and plague, and who better to research weapons designed to kill ghosts than the one who regularly deals with them?

mesmers have the obvious benefit of being illusion wielders so ash is a perfect match, but considering how tricky it must be to remember how to manipulate enemies like they do, and still warp spacetime via portals means that they must be very intelligent as well, perfectly suited for an R&D position in iron, and let’s not forget their melee skills, they are after all the only scholar that actually uses their melee weapons as WEAPONS, necro and ele just use them as a focus for spells.

engineer has the obvious position in iron, but they can act as sappers and have the traditional “spy gadgets”, and they are competent on the battlefield as well as combat mechanics, somebody will need to repair all of those things blood legion uses.

rangers can act as assassins, and as beastmasters on the front line, and their use of spirits puts them in the same position as necros in fighting the foefire ghosts.

the rest are pretty much pigeonholed into one role, but they can still be useful elsewhere

thieves are obviously ash, but are able to hold their own on a battlefield, and their knowledge of poisons can help both ash and iron legions in chemical weaponry like the engineers elixir gun

warriors will most likely be on the front lines, but there’s nothing to say that they can’t act as the ones who build the war machines fr iron, that must require a lot of physical strength, and their rifle skills are based off both muskets and sniper rifles, so they can act as assassins for ash, and possibly as a diversion to let the sneakier members of the warband into a target location

finally, guardians have the obvious role as a soldier, but also will fit into iron with the anti-spirit knowledge like necros and rangers, for ash, they face same problem as warriors, except without the ability to use sniper rifles, they are literally the only one I can’t think of any use for in ash except as a diversion :P

so yeah, any class can fit in any legion in some way, don’t forget, charr choose their legion and warband as cubs, so who knows what they’ll grow into, a cub in blood legion who wants to be a soldier could have a natural affinity for illusions after all, and I doubt that the people you grew up with will be overly pleased with the guy who is like a brother to them being kicked out because “he wasn’t stabby enough” :P

My Engineer is in Ash, because assasination via explosives is just as useful as a knife in the back, depending on the situation.

All proffesions fit in all Legions but for different purposes.
For example, a Warrior in Blood would obviously be a frontline trooper that hacks and slashes but in Ashe Legion he is more fit for guard duty. Defending important locations that need holding or serving as a backup when things go wrong with an infiltration mission.

I know all professions fit all legions, the game is designed in such a way that everything fits, everywhere (one of the things I actually think is beautiful about this game). This is designed for a specific type of player who likes their characters to fit a particular mold if you will.

I saw a lot of people asking who fits where the best in the early days of the game, so this is why I made this thread. So people may simply look it up and go hey, my necro fits with say ash legion.

Just to clarify this is hear so that people are aware of conventions in the legions, not a set of rules dictating who should go where. Are we all clear? Good now get back to your posts cubs.

Meh. I knew going in that my Guardian would be an odd fit for Ash Legion, but I liked the oddballness of it. I certainly made a place for myself there.

I thought the opening storyline choices make it clear what the Legions are all about.

Kind of a necro but kind of not, seeing this subforum moves a bit slower than others. Though legions have no limits it seems, this is proven by NPCs in your warband elite and by very few NPCs.

I have a Thief in Iron Legion. My reason? If you’re going to make your own pistolas, it’ll probably be because you’re Iron.
