probably helps your idea that Steve Blum voices Rex, Grunt and everyone’s favorite FDS wielding charr Rytlock.

They sound similar. Though the truth is is that (for the Iron Legion, at least) the charr are far, far more intelligent than the average krogan. When you take into consideration their well-organised society, their antitheist nature, their ability to prototype, build, and mass produce without having to use borrowed alien technology (the Salarians)… ?

Well, no. Not really. The krogan are more like Americanised versions of the Warhammer 40k orks. The charr are simply too intelligent to be compared to either.

Yeah, that. But even the other VA’s for Charr kind of remind me of Krogan. But I came from Mass Effect to GW2 so it was fresh in my mind.

Some of the heavy armor helms in particular make them look just like Krogan.

I’m not sure about this intelligence thing. Sure Charr society is better organized than Krogan, but so are ants. And Charr have their factions and civil wars too(cough, flame legion, cough).

Antitheism probably shouldn’t be correlated with brains, especially in a world where Gods come down and demonstrate their existence with stunning regularity.

And I feel that mass production isn’t necessarily smarter than artisans and craftmanship, just different.

Though, this probably stems from a Blood Legion bias… Blunt-object pride!

For me, the similarity with Krogan comes from the Blood Legion warriors with helms on who walk around the citadel. I guess they face the same issue of putting a huge head into a helmet, so it makes sense they look similar.

That said, Charr are far and away my favorite GW2 race. I really like how they have been differentiated from other, similar fantasy species, while filling that archetypal niche.

I think the better question here would be “Dont the Krogan remind you of the Charr from GW1?”

Not true, I guess you didn’t take the time to go through a lot of the optional dialogue, but Krogan, while not the smartest, are probably on par with the charr in terms of average intelligence, probably even on par with humans (they developed nuclear weapon technology on their own, the difference being they killed each other and their planet, unlike us so far).

Krogans developed a lot of their own technology and borrowed very little. The salarians came very late into the race’s technological development.

So they didn’t develop space travel..

Have we?

TLDR, Krogan are smart.

Even though the oxymoron “krogan scientist” would cause a laughing fit among most of the residents of Mass Effect’s universe, cRIPP has a good point. Krogan were able to develop some impressive technologies on their own, but their endeavors were stymied by their genetic weaknesses and cultural tendencies. The charr, meanwhile, have the sense to unite into powerful Legions and prioritize obedience and duty above all. They’ve gone through suffering and tragedy, like the krogan, but they’ve gained great confidence with the reclamation of Ascalon and the raising of the Black Citadel. With the efforts of the world focused on defeating the Elder Dragons, it’ll be interesting to see just what the charr can come up with (beyond Engineers).

On-topic, yes, charr are very much like krogan, but they’re in a far superior position.
