So if there’s something that you don’t do in an MMO, it’s make an entire race a laughing stock. Charrs had it bad enough before with the minimal amount of good looking skins, but these new hairstyles shouldn’t exist.

Sunglasses, top hats, monicals… sure. Those are fun items. But you just made the entire Charr race a pathetic joke with the new hairstyles. No one thinks they look good, they choose them to look like a joke.

New hairstyles that actually look good need to be created, every Charr character that has changed its hairstyle since the update needs to have hair reset to default and every one of them needs to be refunded a hairstyle kit.

This is beyond pathetic. Rytlock looks like he represents a bunch of idiots now.

I agree with you that these new styles are 100% inappropriate to the Charr lore… and yet, every time I see one of these troll dolls/Heat Misers/Yu-Gi-Ohs I still literally laugh out loud. I’m laughing even as I type… does that mean a developer shouldn’t do something like this? I don’t know.

It’s an MMO. People have the freedom to make whatever character they want, as long as it’s not openly offensive. Yes, the Super Saiyan Charr are immersion breaking, but so was the Sailor Moon Senshi team, the gigantic naked Norn with a bright pink mustache named Dr Dance Queen, the red fro’d human who was the spitting image of Ronald McDonald, and the all-black/red fiery armor dude named Xx Darth Slayer Xx. And you know what? I still had a good laugh at all of them (except Darth Slayer. That was just unimaginative :P).

As a RPer, I love immersion probably more than most, but total immersion just can’t be found in an MMO. If I wanted total immersion, I’d play a single player RPG.

On the other hand, look what they did with the asura, a race of highly intelligent scientists:
-When you strave fast from side to side you pull your head behind like a rubber-ball. It was even more ridiculous in the beta with a stretchy neck.
-Asura haircuts, the new ones and the standard ones. The female multiball-afro.

I dunno, I could see this being the new craze for the flame legion. I couldn’t imagine a hairstyle more literally appropriate.

And I’ll be honest, there isn’t a race I’d rather see this sort of thing on. Think about it, would you rather see it on a charr, or on hundreds of human or norn elementalists with their own unique misspelling of the name “Goku”? Closest you’re gonna get’s the picture below. Does that look like a Goku to you?

No one thinks they look good? Wat? Since when do you speak for all charrs? Ill say about 5/6 of the new hairstyles are fantastic, even the sayan one. Haters gonna hate but I’m keeping my sayan hair :P

Just as much as any hair on any race. So what’s your point ? All characters should be bald ? :P

A lot of the new hairstyles cross the line when it comes to portraying a world with aesthetic lore integrity.

The asura have gone from scary creatures from beneath the earth to your average Disney movie cute race, complete with pink hair, pig tails, bows and adorable baby animal facial features. The human hair styles no longer look like what a farmer, warrior, scholar or wilds adventurer would wear, they are increasingly fancier than what you would see at a real life wedding or date night.

We saw what happened with Rox, it was only a matter of time before the lines were pushed with the charr. For the record, I agree with the OP, the obvious anime hair is ridiculous for the race and as much as a lot of players enjoy it, it does detract from the aesthetic quality of the world now. It’s already very popular and you’re going to see it a lot.

Pandora’s Box has been opened, it’s not like they can do anything about it now. Fortunately the sylvari have mostly remained lore friendly in their hair styles.

They have been kittenting all over the lore since release… Seasonal mini games that break away from the norm are fine…

I disagree that top hats, monocle sand all the other crap is ok… When I play gw2 I want the loading screen for legacy of the foxfire, that’s the game I want to see. Then u got Scarlett, some half kitten ripoff of harlequin comin around with monsters that don’t fit the lore or theme at all… There was plenty of opportunity for comic relief and creativity before, now with every piece of new content the game looks more and more like some crappy indie mmo

You don’t even know what indie mmo is. It’s their lore and they know what’s best for it. So much cry over one hairstyle. How about stop making white charrs, because that’s what I see all the time. People should be more creative.

And Scarlet wasn’t all that bad if you actually read something about her, well maybe except “die die die” part ^^

Hell I lack originality too, my charr is like 80% a copy of Smodur the unflinching, trying to copy his armor too… I just hate seeing a game with so much potential flush it all away by not taking itself seriously enough

If we weren’t the laughing stock before, the number of "Xxgokuxx"* names that are popping up specifically because of that hairstyle is really, really irritating.

*not an actual name I’ve seen, just one I’d expect to see in any other MMO to highlight how inappropriate it is.

I thought I was the only one who thought it looked absolutely kittened. I like to make fun of them in map chat every time I see it.

However, as long as they never put it on an NPC, I can accept its existence.

No they aren’t and think of it as times are changing lore wise. Accept it as these are the Charrs getting adapted to other sources and not just only home. They know their traditions, but having a bit more fun and trying new things doesn’t hurt. They’re tough, but also * kitten * as well.

I lolz at the Asura description ‘Disney race’. But as for the charr I couldn’t agree on which hairstyle to give mine so I gave the short cut style.

It’s totally true though… I’m actually surprised they haven’t been sued for ripping off the Stitch character from `Lilo and Stitch`.

I just LOVE the Super Sayian hair style. Bought it on day one. If you don’t want to have this, go out and enjoy your real life…

I do agree that many of the exclusive hairstyles and colour/tone choices are outside of any connection with a fantasy based Lore. But its what a large section of the casual and large fraction of the player base who know little to none of the Lore and are not invested in it in the slightest.

Which why we are getting these – with likely more to come….

If u dont like the heirstyles (or faces or horns) for charr… make u’r own design and post it in the this thread… We may have an oppurtunity to poin the devs in a direction!

It’s validating to know that other people share my opinion. I thought my post on the new hairstyles was going to die pretty quickly. I miss being able to take the lore and art style of GW2 seriously. Even with the goofy Asura, there was a sense of artistic integrity in creating lore that pushed the limits of being funny without resorting to gimmicks. I know there were a lot of comic-relief moments, but nowadays, it seems like the kitsch has gone way too far and the entire game is just one big “Who can look the most ridiculous?” contest. It was funny for a second, and now I’m over it. I wish ANet could take themselves seriously again.

I like all the styles but the dbz looking one, but I just wont use it. I love this style though and I think it’s fitting for a male Charr.

We need to shift out of the dog / circus zone and into the cat of prey (lion, puma, jaguar) zone. Then the Charr race shall be complete.

(Also, plz give us darker green hair dyes so i can complete my charr necro’s look)

I went out of my way to distance myself from that image when creating my own characters. I don’t mind so much when lore gets broken, but the hows and why’s really kinda irritate me.

I’m pretty sure the fact they both have ugly armor has something to do with it, too.

They’re only a laughingstock because players want to dress them that way.

A hairstyle doesn’t make a whole race laughing stock – few characters wear it and they might be laughed at.

On the other hand, ridiculous /cry animation for example can make the race laughing stock. Create the most kitten bulky brawny fierce charr you can. Type /cry. Laugh out loud. Or cry out loud, whichever you feel like.
