Check out the new armor sets. Search: “Radiant”, “Hellfire”, “Glorious”

Each and every one of them, with the exception of a single heavy sets, clips with Charr. Also, the new costume.

Question: …Why?

It’s already been 2 years. Would it have really been that hard to make a tail flap at this point of the game?

Maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad, if they at least gave us a flaming tail for Hellfire, and have the helmet affect the rest of our neck, like the Zodiac helmets, and like other races.

Instead, It feels like they are just copy&pasting the same template over&over&over&over&over&again.

This isn’t to say ArenaNet’s art team didn’t do a good job on the costume designs… But that’s why it feels like an extra slap in the face. If we wear the awesome armor, we have to deal with clipping issues. It’s not fair! :’(

Yup. Even if they don’t go back and fix every single old set of armor (I acknowledge that’d be quite a bit of work, even though I’d love to see it happen), it’d be nice if at the very least they adapted the new sets for the tails. That way there’d at least be a slowly-increasing number of Charr-adapted armors.

And if they’re already making the armor models new anyway, it shouldn’t be that difficult to do. Unless we’re still getting half-finished armor models from launch that they’re just now getting around to finishing up and putting into the game, but this far in I doubt that.

Stretching bothers me more than clipping to be honest…

Though the devs have proven they can avoid tail clipping, and have even been fixing a few old skins, too, i think whoever has experience with tailed races in other games won’t be surprised or baffled by the fact that tails clip in this game too. For example, I always played a Khajiit in skyrim, and the clipping there is not solved at all, there are no armors that leave a particular opening for the tail. (It’s the same with Argonians of course) So i really appreciated when i saw that in this game, a few skins have a separate part or opening for the tails. I thought of it as a very nice touch, and not something to be expected from each and every armor, though i don’t really see a reason not to do it if they are capable…. or at least, the new armors really should have that kind of design imo. But honestly, the clipping doesn’t really prevent me from using a cool armor.

I think at this late in the stage of the games life, there is no excuse for why this kind of stuff still persists in new armor additions to the game. At the beginning of launch, it was more easily tolerable since, ya know, the game just launched and maybe the development for the other race armor got rushed in the crunch-time or whatever.

But it is now over 2 years later, and we are still seeing ugly-stretched details, floaty shoulders, tail-clipping and whatnot on the few new armor sets since then. It is made worse when you consider most of the stuff is sold through the gem store, which should definitely prioritize quality control when it is selling skins for $7-$12 worth of gems/gold a pop. Not to mention, the whole subject matter is made worst when the only response from ArenaNet about the issue (that I can recall) comes from a Q&A over a year old, where they practically stated they did not consider it much since the majority of players played human-characters.

The devs have already shown they are capable of taking on these issues with armor, so the reason as to why this stuff is still prevalent in even the newest skins just reeks of laziness, incompetence, staffing problems, or some combination thereof.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing more race-specific armor. It would certainly help in narrowing the focus to how it looks on one-race, as opposed to the issues they have when porting over armor that was obviously designed for human-models first and foremost.

Agree… The armour (espacially for medium) and Outfits are a great disapointment leaving me with almost no variety…. 3 sets look good on my main character (charr ranger), out of how many???

They CAN do nice fitting things on Charr, so why dont they do it – every time???

Anet has admitted in the past that it is not worth their time and effort to fix these sort of issues with charr armor.

Their thinking is that since charr is the least popular race why bothering making stuff for them when only a few people will use it?

Which is funny because one of the big reasons people don’t like to play charr is because of all the issues they have with armor. I’m not saying it’s the main reason why people don’t play charr but it is one of them.

It’s really lazy and they should be ashamed. Although I’m sure some of their artists and texture modelers would love to fix all the charr armor issues but they are probably told not to waste their time by the higher ups.

I agree – the clipping just bothers me visually as well, but I didn’t expect that to get fixed (especially since I’m using an old armor skin that will probably never be updated anyways ) But it’s a shame to hear that even newer stuff has that problem. But I’ld greatly appreciate having more “fitting” choices as well.

Anet’s strategy for gemshop armour and costumes is quantity over quality. This is because they are purely there as gem shop revenue. Costumes being as incredibly limiting as they are (therefore being horrible in a game where the end game is supposed to be dress up) are also ever more so common. There is no reason valid enough in Anet’s opinion to do anything more once they get their gemshop sales of new armours.

It’s as simple as that. Nearly all of the new weapon and armour skins since launch have simply been gemshop items, and thus are treated like gemshop items… not like game content.

And yes, Anet has created a catch 22 for themselves with Charr armour. Another funny thing here, is that due to the very small pool of suitable pieces of Charr armour, fixing a single piece of Charr armour will increase the pool of available armour pieces for Charr by a significantly larger proportion than working on armour for any other race.

And if they’re already making the armor models new anyway, it shouldn’t be that difficult to do. Unless we’re still getting half-finished armor models from launch that they’re just now getting around to finishing up and putting into the game, but this far in I doubt that.

I would hazard to guess it is much easier to make some slight modifications to existing armour pieces, than make new ones completely from scratch. However the gemshop problem I raised means that this will not happen, as only the new flashy particle effects matter for gemshop sales, not fixing previously released items baring a great deal of outrage (human T3 reskin with particle effects sold as gemshop armour was changed, while the other reskins remained).
