I personally think that Charr Guardian Retreat needs changing
Retreat is a military tactic though. Other races aren’t as formal because they aren’t soldiers serving in the military. All charr are.
“Retreat!” always yells that exact phrase when you use the skill, regardless of race. My Norn Guardian says it, too. The “eat my dust” etc. quotes are for when someone gains the swiftness boon.
Yup, a strategic retreat is a sound military tactic. And one you have to use sometimes if you want to save lives. You retreat, quickly regroup, and fight again.
While I agree that retreat is a valid military tactic, I wouldn’t mind if they said something else; maybe something comical. “Charge Backwards!”

That would take much longer to say, though. I’m pretty content with the current implementation, it makes the constant shouts of my guardian saying “Retreat!” while he’s charging rather ironic.

Thanks to other noises, it occasionally sounds like my Charr excitedly calls out “A TREAT!” and starts running as if to retrieve it. Which seems appropriate considering hes just a big fluffy kitten… Sometimes when I use “Save Yourselves” it matches up well since he screams out “Save yourself A TREAT!”… Then EVERYONE starts running.
All the other races yell something ambigious like “Eat my dust” or “I’m faster than a centaur”.
But us Charr, the warriors all other warriors strive to be like actully yell “Retreat”.
The first two are not yells for “Retreat!” but for when they gain the Swiftness boon at all.
All guardian races shout “RETREAT!” and I promise you, it’s something that no guardian is happy about. The boons the skill give are, after all, especially useful for charging in on the offensive.
The problem is that “CHARGE!” is an old GW1 Warrior skill, so I doubt they’ll use that.

Dude, I love the fact that we yell what the shout actually is. That’s one of my favorite things about shouts.
And I always use Retreat when running away.

I doubt that’s a problem, actually. There’s several traits/skill names that are used more than once between professions.
I guess with that in mind, simply renaming it to “CHARGE!” wouldn’t be entirely unlikely.

Should be “Fall back!” Sounds more like an orderly retreat than a rout.
They can change it to “Regroup!” Works for any situation.

They aren’t opposed to reusing old skill names for great justice.
Sometimes they even change the skill up to where it doesn’t resemble the one in GW1 like blood is power.

I think what he is getting at is that it’s used for going in, and getting to a place rather than running away from a place. I could see if it had some mechanic like double the duration if moving away from enemies. I just ignore it though, for me it’s the perfect charge.
It gives your melee speed, and aegis for that initial damage that’s going to happen.
