I’m trying to wonder what the lore related profession would be for Iron legion, aside from engineer. The Charr are not keen on magic, and I assume all the magic classes would get taken in by the Ash Legion – especially mesmers for their sneaky illusions. Warrior and guardian would be more for Blood Legion. Thieves have Ash Legion all around. I assume rangers would get jobs either in the Blood or Ash legion.

But Iron legion seems adaptable to only one profession – the engineer. do you guys think any other profession would fit in nicely with Iron Legion? I just get the vibe that if an Iron Legion charr wasn’t tinkering on war machines, they’re not Iron Legion.

I think a warrior could also sub in for Iron legion, for ground troopers to guard the war machines. They also use guns, pew pew yeah!

Also I see rangers. Yes rangers. The iron legion still uses the giant devourers.. someones gotta tame and train them

All legions utilize all proffessions. remember, that each High legion is an independent nation. While they are prone to certain types of classes, they each utilize the less common proffesions (for their legion) differently. Charr choose their proffessions as they grow up in their farars. But they generally stay in the same High Legion. So there is no shifting of this profession or that into different legions. also, we see a lot of Iron legion warriors in game in Ascalon around the Black citadel.

“The Flame Legion is condemned more for their worship of false gods and longtime oppression of the other legions than for the fact they have a preference for fireballs. The Flame Legion remains the most “magical” legion – that was their strength, and their overthrow in part has driven charr achievements in technology. But the charr always appreciate a fellow charr who can carry his or her own weight, and while they might mock an elementalist for his light armor, they appreciate the mobile artillery support that a timely meteor shower provides.” http://www.onlinewelten.com/games/guild-wars-2/interviews/jeff-grubb-im-interview-zu-charr-7759/seite-3/

Dustfinger is right here. All legions utilize all kinds of professions.

If a cub in Blood fahrar is found to be talented in magic (fahrars are legion specific), they either abandon it or continue to serve their legion as a magician. Cubs don’t choose their legions, it is their parents who do this for them, and they would NEVER send their cubs to serve rival legions. They can’t switch from Blood to Ash only because they are talented in magic, or suddenly go to Iron because they like to tinker with guns.

As others have mentioned the Legions make use of Charr of all professions, not just ones that seem to fit. There is evidence of this in each story line. With that said I know where you are coming from. When I roll a character I try to add some story to them, a sort of habit that developed after role playing a lot. So I can understand your desire to choose a class that ‘fits’ ideally instead of one that is the minority.

My character with the highest personal reward level in Fractals of the Mists is my Iron Legion Charr Warrior. Originally rolled for Blood but was deleted in favor of a Guardian who now collects dust. When I created my current Warrior I wanted another Charr, however, I also wanted at least one in every Legion and I already had my Guardian in Blood. So I rolled Iron.

I reasoned that the firing lines needed someone to defend them, so a Warrior would make sense. As would a Guardian, in fact the Iron Legion NPC soldiers can be seen using Guardian skills. But I already had the 80 Guardian, and did not want to re-roll for the sake of the story in a game where its meaning degrades half way through, and in truth the story in MMOs do not really effect the core game play. Also remember that this game leaves plenty of room for you to create your own story within theirs, for example.

My Warrior wanted to be in Blood but was placed in Iron. Instead of seething he used that anger as fuel. He worked toward mastering all forms of martial combat, while using his weapon crafting skills as a way to relax and re-center himself. He never passes up chance to prove his worth as a Warrior and show up Blood Legion. When the lines are broken and the firing squads are ordered to fall back he drops his hand crafted rifle and reaches for his axes or greatsword. Ooh-rah!

Again any profession will work. If you want something that fits look at the NPCs, or create your own story. To better answer your question with all of the personal fluff here is a list of the legions and which classes I believe ‘fit’.

~Blood~
Warrior – General Soldier/Tactician/Leader/Sniper
Guardian – Defender/Leader/Tactician (Have one)
Necromancer – Support/Minion Master(Might be next toon)
Ranger – Forward scout/Marksman/Tracker
Elementalist – Magical Artillery Strike
Thief – H.V.T(High Value Target) Eliminator
Engineer – Demolition

~Iron~
Engineer – No brainer right?
Warrior -General Soldier/Tactician/Leader/Sniper (Have one)
Guardian – Defender/Leader/Tactician
Thief – Forward Scout/Close Range Support

~Ash~
Thief – Scout/Assassin
Mesmer – Illusionist/Assassin
Necromancer – Support/Curse/Disease Spreader/Minion Master
Ranger – Forward Scout/Tracker/Marksman/Assassin (Have one)
