Platekinis for Charr
I agree. I try to find my three charr the skimpiest armor possible—I like seeing the fur patterns and muscle structure I chose. Full-body armor covers what makes charr special.
Here’s what I’ve got on my light armored:

I approve that female charr use pretty much the same armor that males use. It’s refreshing to see. I mean, breastplates that emphasize breasts are a pretty big weakness since the concave can help sharp edged weapons like daggers go up to the throat. I mean look at some of the female human armor, some of the heavy armor could qualify as a prostitute outfit instead of actual armor. So I have to disagree with the whole platekini thing to begin with, there are other games for it and GW2 already suffers enough.
At least Charr and Asura aren’t tainted by such horribly designed armor.

I approve the same armor for both genders too. I think you misunderstand. The thread isn’t asking for “sexy armor” for charr females—that’d be insane. It’s asking for more revealing armor for both genders, so that the charr have a more “tribal” appearance, and so their fur patterns show. By “platekini”, the OP means fur-revealing armor for male charr and female charr. Sex appeal has nothing to do with it

Tribal seems too much like Flame Legion and it’d make sense that the Iron Legion, Blood Legion, and Ash Legion would go to great lengths to not be connected to Flame Legion in any fashion, fashion itself included.

From a logical perspective, revealing armor never makes sense. Iron, Ash, and Blood would wear practical armor at all times. But when it comes to your character in a fantasy game, looks are everything. And if someone wants to look like Flame Legion, or a nimrod in a loincloth, it should be an option. Just like wearing practical/realistic armor should be an option
In the story I wrote for one of my charr, he is a Flame Legion shaman who has fallen out of favor and was subsequently captured/rescued by his sister in the Blood Legion. She keeps him on a short leash, but he is still loyal to Flame—and I’ve tried to make his coloring and clothing reflect that. So tribal-style armor could work for roleplaying purposes as well

Actually you’re right , topic is a bit decieving and I didn’t know how to put it any other way . What I actually wanted was to reveal more of the Charr’s body because they’re so muscular . There’s a revealing armor in the start of the Human and Norn warrior character creation , it would be nice if Charrs had that armor .

For light armor, try combining the T-3 shirt with the Trueye leggings you get from a Fireheart Rise heart quest.
For heavy, there’s a good top that you can get through heart quests in Kessex Hills.
For medium, I think it’s impossible XD
“A true warrior needs no helm!”
But despite picking that option during my Charr creation, my Charr still wears heavy full plate into battle. It’s intimidating AND protective. Plus, he’s shaggy enough that you can’t really see his muscles when he’s naked anyway. XD
Completely agree with the general idea behind this thread. In all honesty the thing that bothers me most about Charr is the strange skintight human clothes. I absolutely hate it and it kept me from really playing a Charr knowing that there’s really only a couple decent looking sets.
Course I’m speaking from the light armor perspective, but it seems agreed that armor for Charr is poorly transitioned. Lots of clipping, no horns, awkward style…
I don’t think tribal armor is bad by any means. There’s a lot of current things that don’t make sense lore-wise, so saying armor shouldn’t be tribal because of flame legion is the least of the worries I feel.
I can’t stand these weird bulky or skin tight ruffles and buttons on my BEAST race. My Charr isn’t a human and last I knew there’s still a little tension between the two. Why in the hell do I need to dress like one? I need my mobility to not be impaired! What was the point of even picking fur patterns..rarely have I noticed anyone’s pattern unless I stare at the head/tail…Which is all that’s ever showing.
I guess I just can’t understand why my large, bestial Charr needs to be covered head to toe in awkward clipping male human model armor. I’m covered in freaking fur! Could you imagine a Charr actually trying to run on all fours in some of this stuff? Makes me laugh and feel bad.

There’s a gallery, some are ok, but overall I still hate the pants with skirts and long sleeves. Personally love T3 Culture, wish the other designs had a similar feel.

I totally agree with this thread! Much of the charr Tribal feeling is lost in GW2’s armour. I think ther can be much done here. Love the charr race!
That’s the point, isn’t it? The Charr you see in Guild Wars 2 are not the same Charr you saw as savage enemies in the original.
Do you even lift, bro?

Like I said, the Tribal look was a result of the oppressive Flame Legion not allowing any progress (that at best having a well-made sword? Not an exaggeration) and only worshiping Titans as gods. When removed from such oppression, the other three High Legions (Blood, Ash, and Iron) went all industrial revolution and aside from a few oddities (praising the Searing), they will go to a lot of lengths to not be seen as the tribal-false-god-worshiping Flame Legion of GW1’s time.

I think you’re missing the point of the thread….
I get that you feel lore wise they shouldn’t look tribal. I am glad that you are happy with your gear! What people here are saying is they don’t enjoy their large furred animal wrapped from head to toe in armor with severe clipping, no tail holes, horns disappear, too stretched out etc. They would just like more options for their character to feel right to them.
The Charr and Humans decided on a peace treaty/alliance 1-5 years prior to GW2. Sure they worked together in past when needed, but were always bitter (Gwen/Pyre) Over the course of that time, Charr decided they need to look like the meat? I mean in GW2 there are still the ghosts and then separatists. I know styles change with time, but I just feel the armor doesn’t really have any Charr influence (Obviously since it’s the human male armor model). I think maybe if they went back and adjusted pants/sleeves to be more forgiving on fur and mobility then the armor would look alright.
Threw this together just to show what I mean.

That’s because it’s all pretty much the same armor. I’d honestly prefer if each armor checked a flag to see which race you were, so Reinforced Scale armor on a human would have an entirely different look for a Charr, Norn, Sylvaril, etc. Like the cultural armor for each race.
Speaking of Flame Legion tribal armor and “not wanting to look like or associate with Flame Legion”, what about the Citadel of Flame armor? That armor makes your character look like a Flame Legion zealot—the light set being complete with a fire tail and fire arms. That says to me that arenanet doesn’t have any qualms about letting our characters differ from the norm in charr society, or even look like someone from an enemy faction. So there’s no lore reason that’s keeping them from giving us less-covering charr armor. I’d like something similar to Pyre Fierceshot’s outfit!

Which is exactly why I have zero motivation to get the CoF armor set.
if you want minimal armour, try the heavy pit fighter chest with helmet and shoulders hidden, apart from a simple leather cross harness they’ll be naked to the waist.
I think what bothers me the most about a lot of the armors in game is that most of them were obviously never designed with the charr in mind.
I can understand clipping around, say, the horns or whatever, because we can pick and choose which horns to use and there’s a chance that the compatibility might slip through the cracks, but not the kitten tails. Consider for a moment that even one of the cultural armors— the t3 light, has this problem.
It’s really frustrating when most of the civilian/solider npcs have better looking armor than you do. ie http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:CulturePaletteCharrNPCs_-_Render.jpg
I just want more armour that reveals my awesome fur pattern!
Not sure about the tribal look really. I think the Charr are very forward looking and forward thinking in this game and looking tribal would be looked down upon. Like if people in the industrial age starting wearing tribal looking clothes.
That said more options is never a bad thing. There are Charr in the Citadel trying to get it legalized to worship gods again so why not have the tribal clothes option? They could be like puritans or whatever.
The whole tail clipping thing annoys me too. medium armour has it worst as the vast majority of medium armours have long coat tails with no tail slot. For my engineer I found the Commando set a nice alternative to the tribal look, again this tail clips though. They have tried to make a tail slot, but it’s too low so the tail clips through above it!
