I don’t know to much about the guild wars lore so bear with me. I want to make a charr that is in the blood legion, but problem is the 2 classes I think fits the most in that legion, warrior and guardian are already taken as my human and norn. So I was thinking on making a charr ranger, but when I think of a ranger, I think of a person who loves nature and tries to protect it, not a bloodthirsty warrior. If someone knows more about the lore, please convince me to make a charr ranger, about how it fits!

I had this same debate with myself recently and am about to make a ranger charr. I have all races made, and all of them are different classes and are too far a long in level for me to restart them on a different race. The only race I was missing was a Charr, but since I had already started the classes I wanted to use on the race, I resorted to the classes I havent used: the medium armors. Engineers seemed like the way to go, seeing as how the Charr race is just as advanced as the Asura; however, the class was dull to me so I ended up deleting it. Next I tried theif, but unlike my friends, I’m more of a headstrong kind of player so the stealth did not work for me. Now I am going to attempt the ranger class and hope for the best on it, mainly because I’ve run out of classes to try. If you think ranger is not suited for the Charrs, go to the Black Citadel and look at the statues toward the north exit. There is a Charr statue of a ranger there, and it looks pretty epic. It was the only thing that told me it could look natural.

Also, you mentioned that you thought Charrs did not have the appearance for being rangers, but instead warriors or any other brutish class. Well, you could think of it like this: Charr’s, being the cat/dragon things they are, must of evolved from something in nature at one point. They are natural hunters and probably, even though their appearance says otherwise, try to protect the land rather than destroy it.

Thanks for the reply. I went to check out those statues and yes I read that the female ranger was a hunter. Im leaning more towards charr ranger now!

Charr have used pets for a long time, though, mostly the devourer race. Even in GW2, there are even a few DE’s where you help finding them (gathering eggs, training devourers, bringing them to the places where they can be of use, etc).

I know of a NPC who wants to find a pet, but isn’t sure about it. I got that conversation on my human ranger. I’ll see if I can retrieve it…

I have a lvl 80 charr ranger in the blood legion that had slowly over time become my main. The reason I picked Blood Legion is because of scouting, recon, and the training of Siege Devourers are important to the legion’s resources.

Not all rangers are peaceloving treehuggers either. I try to think of mine as a master of the land. Not trying to become one with the land out of a personal sense of peace and equilibrium, but one that takes ownership of beasts by plying dominance and strength in the hopes to gain self mastery. Since the Charr have destroyed their gods and have a developed mindset about it, it implies that anything the Charr can master, applies to self mastery and destiny. The Charr also have a do or die mentality on progression. It seemed only naturally to me that a Blood Legion Ranger could fall in line with the same attitude quite easily.

In Guild Wars 1, Pyre Fierceshot was the leader of the charr rebellion against Flame Legion. He freed the charr from slavery. He was also Blood Legion, and a Ranger.

Blood Legion prides itself on military prowess. Only a stupid military unit would have just melee warriors—and when it comes to fighting, Blood Legion are geniuses. They would be happy to have archers, gunners, and all sorts of fighters in their ranks—the deadlier, more effective, and bloodier… the better. I think a Ranger would fit into Blood Legion just as well as a Warrior—you just need to look at Pyre Fierceshot for an example. He’s the most famous charr in history, and was a great leader.

Rangers would fit into all the Legions pretty well actually. For Blood, they could fit the role of an aggressive war archer, scout, or war-beast trainer. An Iron ranger would be inventive, always making his/her ranged weapons, traps, and so-on more efficient. An Ash ranger would be an assassin or a scout—using nature to sneak around and spy.

My Charr ranger went for Ash legion due to stealth and surprise attacks theme. I named her Bagi Natureclaw and called her pet Ryo hehe.

Plus her warband member name is Reeva and she’s a ranger profession as well.

Probably something like ‘you look weak, meat’ or ‘run, little mouse!’

Pyre was one of the better characters in GW1. Warband of Brothers was amusing because his teammates thought the human rescuing them was a slave or lunch or both. A fair enough assumption given the war between charr and human at the time.

Being a Charr does not preclude wanting to look after the land/use it in a sustainable manner. In Plains of Ashford, there’s an old Charr who says he and his warband were assigned to watch over a lake, make sure it wasn’t overfished, culling drake numbers when they grew too many, and fighting off Flame Legion who wanted to pollute the lake with tar. In Diessa Plateau, there’s another warband who’s in charge of keeping the lake clean so the Black Citadel has pure drinking water, and they regularly fight off Flame Legion who want to turn the lake into tar.

From these examples, it can be reasoned that the Charr have a vested interest in not over-exploiting their resources, and Charr Rangers are the ones called upon to shepard the land and look out for its health. Nothing says you can’t play a Ranger who loves and protects the land.

Compromise and make a charr female ranger?
It depends on what the appeal of the norn female is for you, I suppose. If it’s sexiness, then that wouldn’t work XD
But if you’re looking for something graceful/beautiful in a rangery sort of way, and something that’s charr…. female charr is your answer :P
If you want the norn female for sex appeal, then make the norn female AND a charr necro

Yeah it is because of the “sexiness” :P But yeah, I guess charr necro fits just as much as a ranger/warrior in blood legion :P

Iron needs scouts because their machines can’t smell intruders. Blood needs scouts because their clanking and stomping would give their position away.

If you think about it, every Legion needs various classes for varying tasks and Blood would really benefit from a quiet, rugged tracker in the forests with an Ashford raised devourer pet. The same way how Iron Legion has designated marksmen and sharpshooters and Ash has heavy armoured guys for when it’s not the time for tactics but the time for kicking the door in.

“Of course the Charr love animals, we eat almost nothing else!” That’s what my Charr ranger says to anyone who questions his career choice.

How could a big feral cat with horns, thats even able to shoot arrows from a distance, not be a good hunter and ranger?
With sense of smell, sight and hearing probably higher then other races i suppose.

The only thing u’ll miss makin a Charr ranger ….. :
the loss of a great amount of good lookin armors, if u begin to look at his tail too much.
