Q:

Hi I wanted to make a Charr but I’m not sure what profession to make it. I would have made it a Warrior but I already have a Sylvari Warrior. So what profession should my new char be? Thanks for your help!

What do you feel like playing?
Thief, war, engi or ele fit with the legions but you’ll get Charr of other professions too.

And a Charr mesmer is hilarious.

As Demented Sheep said, make what ever profession you want to play. All professions fit the charr. Even Mesmer

I have a Charr Mesmer. She’s awesome. Mesmer in GW1 was meh. Mesmer in GW2 is AWESOME.

I also have an Engi and a Guardian. Love both of them, but the Guardian is much less squishy and does better DPS. They reflect each of the three Legions and three back stories, so I get to do them all. Yes, the Mesmer is Ash Legion. That should have gone without saying, and yet, I keep being asked. Not here, but other places. They all work, and they’re all a good fit for the Charr. Play what you like.

fans hate Joffrey. They hate her the way Star Wars
fans hate Jar Jar Binks.”-not a direct quote, but still true.

I just made a Charr Guardian. I usually never play a heavy armor class or the big, bulky races, but somehow a Charr Guardian was just right for me.

I have all 8 classes on charr and I would say just take your pick. Don’t let a race restrict what you want to play. Though I do confess its a little harder picking armors for charrs compared to other classes (Light and medium in particular). However, when you do find the right stuff, the end result is worth it =)

I like to create my charr based on what would be appropriate to their culture. My two charr warriors are, in my mind, very much a part of mainstream society, because their profession reflects the military prowess that charr respect. My elementalist, on the other hand, is a gladium (outcast) who fell out of favor with her prior Legionnaire, and my necromancer, while useful within his warband, is ostracized by most.

Essentially, I consider how I want to think of a charr character. Do I want it to feel like a mighty leader or respected soldier? Then I go warrior, ranger, engineer, even thief. Or do I want it to feel like a maverick, a rebel/outcast, someone who pushes social boundaries? Then I go elementalist, Mesmer, necro, or guardian. (Contrary to popular perception, the guardian motto of defense, protecting the weak, & magic is very much against charr culture)

Ehh, here’s some links to better understand charr society:

The Flame Legion is condemned more for their worship of false gods and longtime oppression of the other legions than for the fact they have a preference for fireballs. The Flame Legion remains the most “magical” legion – that was their strength, and their overthrow in part has driven charr achievements in technology. But the charr always appreciate a fellow charr who can carry his or her own weight, and while they might mock an elementalist for his light armor, they appreciate the mobile artillery support that a timely meteor shower provides. http://www.onlinewelten.com/games/guild-wars-2/interviews/jeff-grubb-im-interview-zu-charr-7759/seite-3/

They are not tied to a particular race, philosophy, or group of gods but rather to a larger concept of proactive defense, of taking the fight to a foe and protecting those you fight alongside while appealing equally to humanity’s defensive nature and the Charr’s desire to rule the battlefield. http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/01/31/behind-the-scenes-with-the-guild-wars-2-guardian-massivelys-in/
