The Albino Charr Phenomenon
Tekkit’s Workshop
My Charr is looks like a lion and has the color of a lion, but with brown tiger stripes
I actually haven’t seen a whole lot of them on my server. I actually take a lot of pictures of other Charr I see.
The only thing I’ve noticed is that the snow white Charr are much easier to spot. I do see a lot of Charr with white base coats though. Tiger pattern is fairly popular but I also see a lot of male Charr with the splotchie cow pattern. It’s one of my favorites though so I might just notice it more
I personally have 2 white base coat Charr. One is orange tiger striped (female) the other is red splotchie cow (male). I have three with black base coats and last I have a solid grey.
One common factor I have seen is that female Charr tend to be lighter colours while the males I see are darker colours. This all just personally though. YMMV.
Still in the process of collecting, very few have been added from outside sources (people other than me) :

You’re turning the vast majority of our servers’ Charr into internet stars.
. . . and we can’t have that, can we?
P.S. Cass is Sand, not white.

Anyone know what color the Order of Whispers Blacksmith fur is? I didn’t find it in the color selection So I made my Charr came out zebra-like instead :\

I’m not positive but did you try the blue black next to blackest black? If that’s not it then it’s probably not in the game.

Yeah..It’s called just Black and It’s got a bluish shade but nowhere near the blue I wanted

I see lots of albino charr as well. There are so many colors to pick from. Plenty of combinations, but I’m sure most are horrendous. Having plain white never crossed my mind, I had too many ideas and loads of customization running through my head. None of my three charr ladies are dominated by the color white, though my main has a white face, tail tip and hands. The other is a sienna/black color:

Very nice collage, although I immediately noticed a distinctly non-Charr anatomical feature tucked away in there.
Spoilered for those who haven’t taken a look at the full image yet. Because I-don’t-know-why-not
I had to look at it again to know what you meant.
Actually, I see 6. 3 are asura, a sylvari, a guy in pink and of course the breasts.
I stared at this for about two minutes thinking “breasts? what breasts?”. And then I saw the panty shot and the peeking asura eyes. Along with “Syrian Reborn” and “Oprah” lol. Closed it, looked again, and was like “OH. THOSE breasts”

This is true, as a matter of fact. I never thought of it though. My two females and one male are this way—femwarrior is orange and brown, fem elementalist is orange and black, male necromaner is dark brown and black.

It’s the second-darkest black color with no markings. That particular shade has a blueish tint
Originally my main was a grey with black tiger stripes but deleted it.
Then went for a plain white charr engineer in the Iron Legion style robes. Got bored, went orange with black tiger stripes and orange eyes.
Second main after that was a charr warrior, white tiger black stripes in Vigil Armour who I also changed to orange with green eyes and black tiger stripes.
At the end of the day I just got bored of the white and went for orange tiger.
edit: I found that white tiger seems to work nicer with female charr, but orange male charr seem to look right.
“IT’S THE RED WIRE!”
I haven’t tried female tiger stripes, but I’ve found that oranges and browns go really well with females—particularly if you’re going for a fire elementalist or a robust soldier type
Yeah sorry, I’m guilty. One of my female Charr is white BUT I do have a female Charr elementalist too, whom has cheetah colouring and markings, so don’t hate me too much. XD

I’m thinking my hate-rays of doom at you now. As soon as you read this message, the hate rays will invade your computer and turn your white charr’s fur neon pink! XD
I’d love a neon pink charr. With some metallic cool-blue armor and visions of the mist greatsword, concept-wise it’d be a charr who harnesses mesmer magic and guardian protective magic.

Neon pink? You monster!
When I made my first charr (male), I’d not seen many in game yet. Looking at the fur colors, I decided that there would be a lot of “stealth kitties” out there with black fur and red eyes. So, I went with white fur and green eyes. I threw away his town clothes shirt, and I loved how he just glowed when in the sunlight, but I began to see just how many white charr there are. When I rerolled him later, I went with grey and brown tiger stripes.
My female charr engineer is all white, and she’ll stay all white. She’s a homage to one of my CoH characters, a white sabertoothed tiger woman called Timid.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

I really, really love the daytime glow of white Charr. I have a Sylvari pal I always explore with. We always laugh at how I glow in the day and he glows at night.
Because Charr look good in white?
I’ve noticed that just about every second or third player-charr is either nearly or completely white-furred or “albino”. A lot of people seem to be fond of making their charr snowblind-white with no markings—or at least with a “white tiger” theme. Combine this with the three most popular male & female faces, and you have a ton of clones running around. I think everyone should make what they love, but I’m surprised at how popular the snow-white theme is. What are your thoughts?
While there is enormous variation in patterns and physical characteristics available, few of these are striking or noticeable at a distance. It’s rare that you’ll be so close to another toon that you’ll appreciate the work they did choosing their pattern/color/feature combo; on the other hand, it’s quite easy to notice stark white or black toons at a distance. Simple contrasts stand out much better. I think that’s what appeals.
My Charr is gold with black spots, with the crazy-person face. I like him, and I designed his appearance for me to enjoy and not anyone else. My Sylvari, by contrast, is deep red head to toe and thus easier for others to appreciate.

I like this. In general, most people aren’t as obsessed with their charr’s tiny details as I am—and sounds like you are too XD. I was always in favor of subtle variations—shades of brown on brown and such. On my own charr I tend to spend forever getting each shade of color, along with all the other stuff, just Right—I’m probably the only one who notices that X brown looks best with Y brown, Z orange, and D shade of armor dye, but that’s okay lol.
I’m also a bit of a charr-character-stalker. I’ll follow you around so I can see what your charr looks like. When I see a white charr, generally think something along the lines of “YOUR KIND WILL CONQUER ALL OF TYRIA!”.
At any rate, for the average player who wants something that stands out, looks cool, works with most clothing, and can be made quickly—white charr meets each requirement.
Your gold-and-black crazy face charr sounds familiar. My gold-and-black evil-hag charr—I have yet to see anyone else in-game with that face XD. Maybe our charr are distant relations?
My char has the gold leopard print on dark gray fur. Blood red eyes, large fangs, and the panther like cat face.
You seem to be confusing albino with just being white. Albinos lack picment in the body, meaning lack of color. This causes animals (and people) to be white skinned/furred, but not just that. An albino also have red eyes, as for some reason said lack of picment causes eyes to be red (think white bunny with red eyes = albino). Since I doubt that everyone also went down the red eyes road on their white charr, albino seems like an incorrect term. Being white alone does not equal albino.
Nah Zeefa you are wrong on that, “albino”, latin for white person/thing, means that the person’s genes that produce brown melanin pigment are shut off completely; in native Africans the genes are turned on completely and they are turned on part of the way, to varying degrees, in other ethnicities (depending on latitude), or activated after exposure to UV light.
However, depending on the species, they don’t have red eyes, the only one’s I’ve seen with red eyes are rodents, I have blue eyes.
A pure white char without brown marks would probably be an albino.
For my charr while I did go with the albino coloring the pattern I chose only affects his hands, feet and tail tuft all I care about was having my tuft be a different color.

I’ve got a white tiger-striped charr, but that’s because she’s an Outlaw Star homage.
I was extremely tempted to change my warrior to a white tiger charr last night but went with orange :P

Maybe, maybe not. Albinism is fairly complex, especially when talking about cats. As someone who breeds colourpoint varieties of cats (a form of albinism) and an owner of a ‘true’ albino cat, all I can say is the genetics of cat coloration is fascinating. http://www.messybeast.com/whitecat.htm For any and all who may be interested.
It kinda makes sense to me that white would be popular – especially plain white/white tiger/white leopard. It’s still realistic, after all those colour/pattern combinations are found in nature, while still being more unusual than your regular lion/tiger/panther colourings. It’s also flashy, goes well with armour…etc etc.
My first Charr was black with bright golden/orange spots, second was chocolate brown with pale yellow stripes. Strange colour combos are so fun! I did end up with a white charr with grey leopard spots eventually just to keep things interesting…white Charr just look nice
The ones that entertain me the most, honestly, are the ones that are coloured like house cats. I made a chocolate-point Siamese once and ran into a calico Charr. Hilariously adorable!

My Charr is white, made it when I was drunk one night. I’m not into white tigers or anything, it just looked nice:)
My white character is not albino, it’s just got a white pattern on a white background.
I made a white Charr yesterday with white eyes. Before this one I had made 2 Charr, who are both deleted because I got sick of their fur colors. There is no color, besides white, that I thorougly like. I think it’s because the chest and whatnot won’t change to the same color and I hate having a (in my case) red Charr with black spots and the most random light/white/greyish brown belly ever out of nowhere. It’s worst with dark colors, I don’t like black at all for this reason.
I do agree, it would be nice if the stomach/tail etc on females would change with the rest of the base coat. The men do it a bit too but not nearly as badly.

I agree. I designed my character before the game released. Her belly is ORANGE, darn it. ORANGE!!!! Not white…
Otherwise, I was able to get a fairly accurate appearance, but I hate the white belly

That’s quite interesting, in people skin/hair/eye colour is a lot less complicated, although not entirely. However, I was simply pointing out Zeefa’s mistake in perpetuating the myth that white animals and people must have red eyes, case in point, I myself have blue eyes.
The blue or green colour in eyes is not caused by a “blue pigment” but rather by the Rayleigh scattering of the shorter wavelengths of light by collagen protein within the eye, in a similar way to what makes the sky blue.
In people and other animals in which the structure is similar, red eyes are not produced; the exception is a bright camera flash, I have to tell people not to use the flash because my eyes go red or glow.
A charr is not a real life cat, but a fictional creature, so we don’t know if it contains collagen in it’s iris or not haha, so a white charr, with any coloured eyes, can be considered an albino.

More people should use a black primary with white secondary.
I think you can get quite a good looking effect with a white base and yellow tiger stripes, comes out a bit like a strawberry tiger.

I have one albino Charr myself. I only wish I could show off her beautiful white fur more. My forum post has more detail about my view about that:

I have 3 (4 if I include my siblings) Charrs. One of them was bound to be grey.
I played a completely white charr with red eyes in the beta, because I’m obsessed with albino animals, but due to the prevalence of white charr I decided to go with gray/black for my actual char:
http://i.imgur.com/mMk85S9.jpg
Her coat color is based off those (called Egyptian Mau, iirc), just with stripes instead of dots:
http://www.kotki.oeria.com.pl/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/egipski7-279x300.jpg
There’s also a little quirk to my char – you can’t see it clearly in the picture, but her eyes are almost completely white, with the pupils just barely visible when you zoom in on the face – I’m roleplaying a blind charr. Though there aren’t any options to accomodate this in-game, so it’s just a little backstory I made up in my head c:
Well mine is black and grey with a light underbelly, kind of a cross between a panther and a cat that used to live near my house.
I have blogs for two of my female charr.
i think i’ve only seen a couple white furred charr, i mostly see charr with darker fur
and what’s the common face? i’m curious
Notalkingplz (PvE/Spvp) – Guardian
Rough Trade (PvE)/Urok Ashpaw (Spvp) – Engineer
On my server I have only seen a few albino Charr, but I’m still dabbling in the low areas.
I have one white female Charr, but that’s only because I wanted to make her look like a snow leopard as much as possible.
I have another Charr female who I rushed on the customization (Black with a grey underside) but I’m changing to all black for the panther feel.
And then I have a male Charr who has a tiger markings of black and reddish with white hair.
Obviously this guy never came upon an injured ranger and her ticked-off pet.
My Charr Thief is White with the smeared pattern as Red, My Necro is black/grey with green eyes.
Im trying to make a new one based on this.
I made a white tiger at head start. Every one just copied me.
My Charr is all white, with the smallest horns I could put on it. The only reason I did it is I want the darkest colored armor I can get to contrast. This is my first Charr toon, the next will have variation. I haven’t seen another albino one in the zone I’m in but I"m only lvl 14.
Mine is Blue gray with black spots (the spot pattern where the bushy part of the mail tail is all black). I think it’s a great fur color; not too black, not too white. TBH, I havn’t seen very many pure white Charr around on Maguuma, only a few here and there.

Daww… was kinda hoping to see my own engineer in the collection. And I know a number of those at least were from TC. =P
I might post some screens of my own Charr later.
