What happened to the young male charr face?
Can you post a screenshot of the face you mean? I’ve been playing the game since before launch (betas) and none of the male faces have changed or been removed.
I feel that the top row (minus the first face) could all be pretty young faces, the far right looks pretty sly and possibly young adult.

This one. He also has a younger voice. I love it.
Hate to burst your bubble but that face was merged into the female faces.
I think we should ask for more customization options in general for our charr, especially faces and fur patterns/colors. It may not be something they add until far down the line, but it never hurts to ask.

That last pic actually makes me think that’s a female Charr but I dunno…the horns give me that vibe more than the face but the face also helps.
Can’t see the tail to be sure either.

Thats a female face. If you’re hearing male voices coming from an NPC that is using that face, its because its a bug and ANet goofed. The character model is supposed to be male. There are a number of NPCs throughout the game (not just charr) that have the wrong gender attached to the voice that is being heard. I’ve reported tons of them, but most of them haven’t been fixed yet.

The horns are also female.

It’s a male. There are a lot of NPCs like this. They have a young male face and voice.
All the male NPCs that have this face don’t have the typical harsh “grampa” male voice, they don’t have a female voice either.
They have a clearly male voice, but more “teenager” rather than grampa.
I wanted a male charr like this, his face is great, and I would be able to understand his voice. I can’t understand any of the grampa charr, even Rytlock. I can’t understand what they say unless there’s text, I can’t understand what they’re saying when they use a skill either.
But the female character sounds obnoxious and their voice startles me a lot, I don’t want to play female… so I’m not sure what to do… I keep re-rolling.

Do they have tails?
Yeah, I’ll believe he’s a male when I see his tail
Its definitely female. I just recreated the NPC in the character creator. All of those features are exclusively under the female template. I made sure the tail was also clearly visible when I took this screenshot.
Like I said, if it has a male voice, the character itself isn’t supposed to have a female model. ANet goofed, and there are a ton of examples in the game where this has occurred, and not just with charr NPCs. There are human, norn, sylvari, and even asura that have the wrong gender/voice combination.

By the way lorazcyk described the voice, I’m just going to guess it was actually a voice actor for the female Charr that differed from the other female Charr.
I never understood why people don’t like the male Charr voices though. Granted, it’s a bit growly and guttural in tone, but it seems likely considering the size of their throats and vocal chords and it’s rather a dreamy voice to me. It’s not beasty James Earl Jones but no one else is besides him…you’ll just have to settle for a growly Steve Blum every now and then
I have no problem with the male charr voices, I think most of them work just fine

That is absolutely not a male. I created a female charr with that face, and those horns.
Walk around town and listen to female charr speak—they have deep voices because they’re huge cat people. That charrs voice isn’t a “young male” voice, it’s a woman’s voice.
Also, look at the tail. If the tail is fluffy, it’s FOR SURE female. Looking at charr tails is the equivalent of looking in their pants…. lion tails are male, fluffy are female
Also, that isn’t even an NPC! That is a character that belongs to a player. If you look in the female charr thread, the player posted a picture of that female, stating that it’s their character
I have two female charr.
A blood legion warrior that supposedly should look like a tiger, and an ash legion thief who should look as close as possible to a Siamese cat (everyone knows Siamese cats are the swat, black ops, ninjas and spies of the animal kingdom).
They use the same armors with little variation and have many faces you wouldn’t see on males, so for many combinations you just have to make a female.
She belongs to Mithran.

Seems there won’t be any mistaken girly Charr boys but instead boyish Charr girls. A data point for the Interspecies Relationships thread
Reason #1, all my charr are females.. is that almost all the male faces look old for the most part! i dont want to play a old charr, i want my character to have a face that matches the voice. since picking a voice isnt in the game(which it definitely should be) i keep all my characters looking young.
That’s Tigris Bellatrix, my Blood Legion charr warrior.
I made her female because that’s the best tiger face you can get in the game, and really wanted to make a tiger-themed charr. You just have to make the snout a little less narrow and tweak a few things more.
To me she looks clearly female.
You’ll get used to distinguish female charr faces, just like with asura. It just tales time. I think it’s all mostly in the eyes and the cheeks.
I don’t think faces were so much removed (except maybe options during beta), as it is that your fur color and pattern has a drastic effect on some faces, in addition to the actual facial shape sliders.
I personally have the last faces from both rows on this image with the intent of creating younger looking males.

Female Charr. Female face (including the teeth), female horns.
If there’s an NPC with this appearance somewhere, that has a male voice, it’s definitely a bug.
There are actually numerous NPCs with mismatched voices, Particularly around Smokestead. Looks like someone at Arenanet needs some Charr physiology lessons!
Biggest indicator to gender for Charr ingame is the tail. Males always have a “lion” type tail, very short fur, with a tuft at the end. Females on the other hand, always have a thicker bushier tail, fur equal in length throughout.
For the toast!
The male voice on female charr might not even be a bug, I’m fairly sure Anet mentioned it at least once that there would be female charr with male sounding voices, but it’s perfectly normal for them. In fact one of the first female charr we have heard sounded like a guy too and after the initial shock people loved the idea.
There are some rougher charr female voices that I guess could maybe pass for male, but the voices/appearances do bug from time to time. There’s a human karma vendor at the wren waypoint (malchor’s leap) for example who… well… it’s best if you just go take a close look at them lol.
