where is everyone?
All of the GW1 players seem to love making Human characters. Also it seems like every new player automatically makes a Human as well. This means that the Human zone is always over loaded with people.
There were masses in the Charr zone during the beginning days. However most have out leveled the zone. At the same time, people don’t have the same compulsion to make a new Charr when compared to the standard Human obsession. This means that the non-Human starting zones are always going to have lower player population counts.
Also on a side note, this isn’t a prime time for the USA. Most of your player activity will be on the evenings and the weekends. If you’re online during those time frames, you’ll see more people running around the Charr zone.
Well, it seems like over 90-95% of bots are humans, the other 5-10% seem to be asura (probably because of their small size; its somewhat harder to notice asura or humans teleporting around than it is to see a giant norn or charr; I’ve never seen an actual norn or charr bot, but I have seen norn/charr players with bad connections lag-port around, while still clearly being legitimate players and not bots, and so I can say that seeing them lag-port around is much more apparent).
My experience has been that the human starting area is basically a huge botfest, and nearly all the other starting areas are relatively quiet by comparison, with the Plains of Ashford getting some of the highest real-player traffic, but that’s also due in part to the adjacent high-level zones nearby meaning that you have high level players walking around between there and the black citadel in order to avoid paying fast travel fees, as well as the first dungeon being located there. Of note though, on my server (Which has one of the lowest populations – I don’t actually mind this… it feels… less ‘crowded’), a lot of events get only a few people (to the point I’ve soloed 10-20% of some group event bosses before people managed to show up, and actually 100% soloed a single non-boss group event before (retake Steeleye Span), not counting NPC contributions – not that soloing them is actually ‘hard’ in gameplay, its just that someone else usually happens along before you can get over ~10-20% completion at the most); I’ve only ever noticed large numbers of people at events that are large group events or events that are being actively farmed by bots, and a couple times where dozens of people from one guild would pop out of nowhere, curbstomp the event and then run off.
Furthermore, I’ve noticed that of all the non-human starting areas, there are still a large number of Charr in my server’s Plain of Ashfords by comparison to the other starting area’s own races, but again, I’m not sure how many of them are actually low-level Charr players or are high-level Charr players who are simply transiting the area and nabbing events along the way (like myself).
As to actual server-wide frequency of Charr players, I’d say that seem to appear (simply based on visually scanning the frequency of various races PCs in the most cosmopolitan mid-level areas (most of the high-level areas there are in Charr territory, one being Norn); I honestly have had little motivation to go south due to travel costs (time/money) and the fact that Orr is apparently plagued by glitches, farmers and horribly designed risen spawns (too quickly respawning, too many, too close, too ‘same’); on top of that, Orr in its current state is probably even worse on servers with few players because it generally apparently requires multiple people pushing through the hoards of risen to make it more tolerable to play) about as frequently as Norn and maybe Asura (so about tied for second), closely followed by Asura (if they weren’t already tied in second as well) and then sylvani, with humans still the most common by far, though a decent portion of the gap is filled by bots. However, I’d say that non-human PCs still outnumber human PCs, even including the bots.
Give Charr armor some more love!
Let us show our spots, stripes, or lack-there-of in style.
Not sure what your situation is or what server you’re on but it might be that your timezone or just time of play doesn’t coincide with the majority of other players on your server. That and if you’re on a low population server to begin with would certainly have an impact.
Charr are also the least popular race (for some reason I can’t fathom).
The vast majority of players are Human, followed by Norn.
+Felzza – Elementalist
+Roienna – Guardian
There’s almost no one in that area or in the Dissea Plateau anymore.
Where everyone’s gone off to I don’t know.
I seem to be encountering a similar problem. I was on a medium populated server and there are little to no players pretty much everywhere which made some events unplayable, not to mention fathering five people for a dungeon. I waited two days for Sorrow’s Embrace before finally giving up.
I’ll try and transfer to a higher populated server and see what happens.

The main leveling herd moved on.
This always happens in MMOs. After the initial rush, the newbie zones are never really blitzed that hard ever again.
The Charr zone’s are all very empty, I think it has two reasons for this.
I am not sure how popular the Charr are as a race, so if not as many people play as a Charr you just won’t see them.
The second reasons is the story takes us to Orr, and if you go to lions Arch you sort of just head south. Which means unless people really want to go to a lower level area, then they just do not go to Ascalon. Which is a shame as I played GW1 and find some of the areas in Ascalon to be amazing.
Hopefully over time more people will make Charr characters or explore the areas, just do not expect it to get more popular in the higher level Charr areas. Unfortunately.
I made a charr alt, and I can say btw the personal story for it is very good. So maybe once people try the personal story for the Charr they will play them more.
The Forgotten Vanguard [TFV], a 18+ great guild. On the Gandara server.

every one plays humans and norn, because of 2 main reasons.
1. the “normal” people pick humans and norn because the armor looks good on them. and they can see the weapon art styles.
2. ALOT of people are overly perverted so natrualy they pick the race that turns them on the most, being the two human looking races.
If the female charr had a more human body type, at least you would have the furrys playing female charr. Luckittenhey dont so they have to settle with humans or norn, or maybe sylvari, not sure how furrys feel about plant people tho.
So to recap, like most things it comes down to what gives people kittens, and charr just dont have any sex appeal at all.

Mmyes. The charr zones are empty and it all comes down to what gives people kittens.
ANet, I love you.
Play on the roleplaying server, Tarnished Coast, and you will see many charr.
Ashford map is active at all hours of the day, at least on Tarnished Coast. I was surprised to see it going on into the wee hours of the morning…
For the toast!
Since GW2 announced it will be having races, I instantly thought, “CHARR! MAKING A CHARR! NO QUESTION ABOUT IT, ANET YOU BETTER MAKE CHARR PLAYABLE!”. So here I am, years later, a Charr Warrior, the day before official release. For the next several days, the Charr starting zones are packed. The quests are fun, the story draws you in, you’re not in some sorry circle of heroes, you’re in a freakin’ warband, and your capital is the Black Citadel, and it looks pure BEAST (can’t believe how lame I just sounded there).
The Charr and their lore has always kept me interested since the first day I played Proph. But like mentioned above, most will pick Human and Norn, simply because they ‘look cooler’ with the armor and weapons. I definitely know some people like other races more, but for the sole purpose of looking good they pick these two. Or ofcourse, the millions of players who’ve grown accustomed to playing just the one race on GW1 for years.
I’m kind of sad they killed off the Dwarves tbh. They could have done so much more, and could’ve replaced those silly plant people.
