15 Passion Flowers for 1 Exquisite Jewel?
I’d assume because there’s no passion flower shards, crystals, orbs, etc.
It may also be that you can make it a point to go gather them specifically, rather than hoping you get an orb out of an orichalcum node, or drop.
Fort Aspenwood
Unless there’s some method I’m missing of getting them, (or I’ve been extremely unlucky) passion flowers are much harder to get than orbs. I have yet to see a single passion flower in about 200 Passiflora nodes gathered with Orichalcum Sickles.
They are MUCH harder, they only randomly drop 1 at a time on passionfruit bushes or come from the chests (which I think are done now).
I have gotten a few but it’s required repeated farming of the Southern Coast and I’ve decided it’ll be much much faster to just buy them.
failure is still a monumental success, assuming
losses remain within acceptable parameters.
25 ectos, is 6 gold and 74 ingots is 3 gold, just so you know you can prolly add another 5g to to that XD

You think it’s an extra 5g for all 5 accessories? It’s an extra 5g PER PIECE! That’s 25g more for a full accessory set, even over berserker’s!
It’s also alarming coz the stats are not necessarily better. They’re… unique and could probably give a different gameplay style.
I was about to make a new thread about this so I’ll just paste what I was going to say.
Why are passion flowers so hard to gather? The rarity of these makes crafting apothecary’s gear much more difficult than any other set. To make all 5 exotic pieces, you need a total of 375 passion flowers, and I haven’t gathered a single one from passiflora. The only passion flowers I have are from consortium chests, and they only seem to pop up one at a time.
Karka shells have a low drop rate as well, but at least they’re dropping at all. To make a full set of Apothecary’s armor, you need 180 shells, just less than half of the number of flowers you need to make the jewelry (and that’s 6 pieces, as opposed to 5).
It also makes no sense when comparing it to the drop rate of other gem options. Apothecary’s is just an alternative to cleric’s, and yet cleric’s is fathoms cheaper. Making one exquisite sapphire gem requires 5 sapphire orbs, an item that (1) is very easy to acquire by one’s self, and because of this (2) is very cheap in the trading post. Currently, one sapphire orb is going for about 2 silver, while a single passion flower is going for 8.
In other words:
-the required gems for a piece of cleric’s jewelry ~ 10 silver
-the required flowers for a piece of apothecary’s jewelry ~ 1 gold, 20 silver
What is justifying the ridiculous difference in value for this particular stat combo? I can only assume that this is some sort of fumble because I don’t see the justification for making the drop rate of a green-level item lower than that of a yellow.

Google search Chystin Cox. She’ll be the one behind this shenanigans. This kind of scenario is exactly what was happening in Maple Story.

I really like the points you make and I think it’s a really good analysis, the only quick rehash is that the gems for a piece of cleric’s jewelry vs apothecary’s.
Clerics ~ 10 silver
Apothecary’s ~ 600 silver = 6 GOLD
Flowers vs orbs – 1 orb per gem vs 15 flowers per gem = 5 orbs per accessory vs 75 flowers per accessory
Flowers are x4 as expensive as sapphire orbs = 10 silver * 4 * 15 = 6 gold
They’re exactly the same stats as clerics? o.O

Whoops, I forgot to multiply once more; thanks for the catch. Now I’m even more downtrodden about farming than before!

More or less. Apothecary’s has condition damage instead of power (go go elixir gun), but the healing and toughness is the same… and yet the mats are insanely more expensive.

Ye, doesn’t worth the hassle at all.
The stats are worth it for mainly support necromancers, and we didn’t have a good accessory alternative until now. But it’s absurd how much more expensive it is to be a support necromancer than a support elementalist since we don’t make good use of power and prefer condition damage.
This is absolutely ridiculous. So explain why this jewelery is 15 times more materials to craft? I’ll tell you why.
Passion flowers drop from Consortium Chest.
This is a blatant attempt by Anet to make you spend REAL money for GEAR. Poor show Anet, poor show.
crickits 80 ranger
crickets 80 warrior – current main
Flowers are now up to 14s+ to buy, putting it at 10g+ for just flowers per accessory; this is absurd and the recipe needs to be changed to 1 flower per exquisite passion flower.
Or increase drop rate of flowers.
Urgh, just a week ago, I decided to start slowly upgrading my rare armor to exotic armor.
I play a condition based ranger and the Apothecary stats are just perfect for him as power is a waste of a stat on my build. I was trying to decide which pieces to get first and noticed I could get 2 armor pieces for 4 gold each or an amulet / ring / earring for 8 gold. I assumed the prices of the latter hadn’t quite settled down yet so I went for the armor pieces first.
Exactly one week later, the price of an exotic Apothecary amulet has gone UP to 22G a piece!
Not that I’m bitter about the amount of money I could have made / saved but if the price of one, already expensive, item triples in the course of a few days, something is CLEARLY wrong with the items required to make it.
The drop rate of passion flowers needs to be increased radically.
I’ll give Anet the benefit of the doubt and assume that they’re bugged at the moment instead of immediately assuming they’re trying to take people’s real money by making them buy Consortium chests (which are no longer available anyway I believe) but we’ll know for sure in the next patch.
At the moment Exotic Apothecary jewelry is 8 times more expensive than almost any other type and even more expensive than some of the legendary precursor items which is of course ridiculous.
Just to play devil’s advocate here, but it may be that Arenanet had predicted that players would abandon Orr and flock to the Lost Shores as the prime level 80 farming location. If this had eventuated, the supply of Passionflowers would be significantly higher than it is now. One big reason for their low numbers is that Southsun Cove is a ghost town populated by skelk farmers and the trickle of people getting their daily orichalcum. None of those routes takes you near Passionflora nodes, so barely any are being picked.
