Q:
PVT Elementalist/Warrior/ Guardian
Q:
I recall some dev talking about new legendary weapons “before the end of 2013.”
I was wondering if anyone had any REAL, (ie… dev posts) updates on it.
Things like, will every weapon type get a new legendary?
When might we get a picture of them?
Has anyone been able to hone in on the time when any of this will be told to us?
The reason I ask is because I’ve been gathering/buying items to make a Bifrost. I don’t really love the look of it, but I don’t hate it either, and if it’s the only available staff legendary for the next year or so, I’ll probably end up making it. But I’d hate to spend half a year casually gathering mats and make it, only to find that two weeks later, a legendary staff becomes available that I lake more.
I’m not demanding anything or whining, just askin’
if anyone knows more than I do.
May be everything but gs, to put everything on par with twilight and sunrise. Just my thought.
As far as I have heard it will be one of every weapon including Greatsword.
You guys do realize there are 4 classes that use Greatsword, and it is the most used weapon in the game? That is the reason there are more GS skins.
Personally i’d just make it if since i’m like you, I don’t love it but I don’t hate it either. I wouldn’t hold my breath for new legendaries. I am sure there are much more pressing issues in this game than crafting a whole new set of legendaries. Plus you know how long it will take to make a whole new set of legendaries, unless they just hurry and just throw together some soso skins and call it good.

Swords are used by 5 classes. Staves by 4. Daggers by 4. Spears by 6. Yet only GS-es get a special treatment.

Yes but greatswords tend to be more of a kitten weapon that everyone wants as opposed to a tiny dagger or a spear that no one ever sees except when in water. Greatswords are big and noticeable and so people want them to look good and have lots of options for them. That and the fact that two of the most played professions (warrior and guardian) tend to have GS as their most used weapon. It makes sense if you stop and think about it…..more GS options is a good thing.

As someone said earlier, Sword is used by 5.

Sword is highest DPS on Guardian, Ranger & Mesmer (who, quite often, actually dual wield swords), and highest trash-clearing DPS on Thief. It is the most viable second offhand option for Warriors who opt not to use GS (negligible DPS difference between AM/GS and AM/AS).
It’s impossible to deny that more Twilight/Sunrise are around than Bolt, but please stop trying to claim GS is the most used weapon. Please.

LAWL.
Your comments assume that everyone who plays those classes use the absolute best dps weapon in every scenario. In that you would be WRONG. Simply log into GW2 and see what weapons you generally see mesmers, guardians, and warriors have strapped to them or using in events. That’s right…GREATSWORDS. Get over it.
And people tend to use the greatswords because A.) they’re bigger and easier to see, B.) generally look more awesome than a 1H sword, and C.) still do decent amounts of dps themselves. Once again, get over it.
Argue with this statement all you want, you know it’s true and that you’re wrong.
Also, tote that chart around all you want. I see more warriors/guardians than any other class, EVERY time I log into the game. That chart takes into consideration alts made that people no longer play or only use as bank toons. I still see more guardians and warriors than any other profession…period. And besides, according to your chart, there are more thieves than guardians….so where are all these thieves? I see maybe 5 to 6 thieves on any given day. I see probably 50-100 different guardians and warriors individually on any given day.

That is actually a circular logic – GS have good skins because people want them more, and people want them more, because GS have the best skins. You see GS-es all around not because everyone uses GS-es, but because they have been made to be the most noticeable weapon. This is however only a result of the weapon design – there’s nothing inherent in GS that should make it stand out so much among other weapons. It’s only due to the devs ignoring other big weapons like staves and hammers, and giving weapons that could have been popular as well (swords, axes) only mediocre skins.
I’ll be a good example here for you stat and chart ppl:
I main a Guardian. I almost exclusively use a GS because I like big swords. Even if GS is nerfed to death and becomes THE worst weapon in the game to the point that your class heal skill does more DPS, I’d still use the GS exclusively. In every fantasy game I play, I play a character that has a GS.
Now, how does that factor in your charts and stats?

now, if that GS was the worst possible of all the available skins in the game, would you still use it, or would you go for something that looked cooler?

Do we even play the same game? Have you even logged in this past year? I didn’t say it was the most accessible weapon, I said it was the most used weapon. Please read before you post dumb comments…. Greatsword is the most used weapon by a large margin.
Greatsword is used by Warrior, Guardian, Ranger and Mesmer. Those 4 classes consist of 52% of the player base, and roughly 80% of those builds are using Greatsword. That would mean that GS is currently used by around 40% of the population.
I would agree with Astral though. I personally find some of the Greatsword skins to be the coolest skins available. But that is personal preference and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I know people that dislike most of the GS skins. But guess what? They still use them! Why you ask? Because it currently is one of the best weapons in the game for their class. Unless GS gets nerfed or other weapons get buffed, it will remain as one of the most used weapons. And as long as it one of the most used weapons, there will be a higher demand for skins.

Actually, yes I would still use it exclusively. As long as it has the giant sword look, I’m good with it.
the new legendary’s would be a trinket :p no weapon skins ;p
