I thought that putting 4 rare types (same type) gives either rare or exotic weapon of the same type. Well, last night I had 4 rare swords (drops from fractals) and I have put them in Mystic Forge , and I got in return Shaman Etched Axe of Rage.

Or perhaps, it’s just something I never read about, or saw anyone getting it, since on youtube videos when you see someone trying to get that one precursor, always the same type of weapon came back as a result…

Someone in my guild had something similar happen. They put in 4 rare staffs and got an exotic rifle back.

well, that is just great… now when someone wants for example hammer precursor, that someone can put 1000’s of hammer rares or exotics and get something totally different that he doesn’t want perhaps (harpoon, shield…)

If only Arena Net could be so cool with ideas when it comes to something else but RNG system…

The mystic forge works in mysterious ways

Its never happened to me, must just be a bug. Maybe one of the swords has incorrect tags so the forge thinks its something else.

It seems this bug has gotten worse since the last patch or two. Heard reports of the same happening from guildies.

I’ve had it happened to me before. I put in 4 shortbows and got back a spear.

I’m pretty kitten about the forge in general. There have been many times that i dropped in 4 80 exotic slotted and have gotten unslotted back. This can’t possibly be intended, I’ve always heard you get equal or better back. Getting unslotted (sigil of…) for 4 slotted weapons is unacceptable. This happens with a lot of different items, it needs to be fixed.

And i have also had that issue, getting back a different weapon than what 4 i put in. The mystic toilet really needs work, i certainly don’t mind unpredictable results when tossing in 4 random items (a guildy got leaf of kudzu from 4 random rares), but when you are tossing tons of gold into it, knowing that you should be getting back equal or better and you don’t it’s horrible.

it is just stupid that ANY thing you put into Mystic toilet, will get you ANY other thing – so if someone needs Dusk, he put 4 swords and gets a spear, or a gun… so chances for getting the right precursor are just SUB ZERO!!

I think it’s reasonable to think that you just put 3 greatswords and 1 sword in there (or something similar), which for the game is just 4 random weapons and thus you get a random weapon back.

Some greatswords and swords seem to share the same icon, hence the possible confusion. I also noticed that you didn’t make the distinction yourself, as you say greatsword in the title but sword in the post.

Riddle me this batman… How does a person put in 4 random rares and get a precursor? Since a guildy did just that the other day. Basically go buy yourself 4 of any of the cheapest rares you can in bulk and go to town. I can’t imagine that chance is any worse than a world boss chest.

I don’t see why that wouldn’t be possible. But if you need dusk or something and you use that method and end up getting Venom… you’re going to rage pretty hard.

It’s likely that one of those swords was actually a greatsword. If they aren’t all the same weapon type, you get back a random weapon type.

same goes with staffs – scepters and bows. so it might just have been a miss. not saying that it is impossible that the forge bug out every now and then. once my friend put in 4 random and got back nothing. but that was waay back.

Getting a precursor from the Mystic Forge is like winning the lottery, with about the same odds.

Actually I got 2 precursors this way already (Zap and the Legend). I use dungeon tokens the ones that cost 210.

Same happened to me too, multiple times, getting different weapons.
(And by far i’m one of the players who wasted less than most on the mystic toilet for sure lol)
