I don’t know if you mean how to “craft an item” or “level a crafting profession”.

The first, and most important thing to do is going to your favorite profession trainer (they’re stationed near the crafting stations, and have the same icons as the professions) and asking them to “become a xxxxxxxxx”. You can only have two active professions at the same time, but your progress in the old professions is not lost, you only have to pay to re-activate them in the future.

If you want to simply craft an item, you have to:

- Discover his recipe (or buy it in some cases)
- Craft the item selecting its recipe in the crafting station pan (the hammer icon).

The second step is self explanatory, you select the item, it tells you in the right pane which ingredients are needed (and if you can already craft one or more of these items), then when you have the correct ingredients you hit the “Craft” button and you have the item.
Take the time to read what ingredients are needed, often the “components” are other crafts already present in your list.

The first point, “Discovery”, is tightly related to leveling the profession, because it is the best and fastest way to raise your crafting ability.
It involves putting one or more items in the discovery pane to “find” the right components for a new craft.
What components are needed is what most guides tell you to “use”, and that means making them (if they’re crafting components like linings, or panels, or even ingots from ore) or finding them as loot (if they’re fine components as claws or venom sacs).
When you make a correct discovery, a blue icon will appear in the right pane, telling you that you made a discovery, and hitting the confirm button will discover the item, crafting it, and giving you a lot of extra experience.

Most profession rotate on the concept of “insignia” or “inscriptions”, with cook and jeweler being the exceptions (but as they’re advanced professions, i suggest you don’t start with them).
Basically you make the “pieces” of an armor or weapon (i.e.: lining and panels, or hilt and blade), and then couple them in the discovery pane with an insignia, doing combinations you haven’t used yet.

I hope this helped you, you can ask more if needed.

no crafting as you level is great xp and very useful
just pick two crafts that you can use and talk to the crafting npc to learn them.

at the crafting station you can play around in discovery once you have made some basic components.
this guy makes great video’s to get you started

This game makes me feel stupid. I’m just not getting it.
I went to the weapons station, there is nothing I can craft. I go into the world armed with my pick and gathering tools, run around looking for things I can mine.

My back is full. In my inventory I have Lumps of tin, which tells me I need ore to make ingots, I have ore.

I go to discovery, nothing there. So I can not make ingots.

I go back to production pane, mouse over hammer, I see the ingredients. Don’t know where to mine them but buy them from the trading post. Now I can make a hammer, but I already have the exact same hammer, so I don’t see the point.

I look at the links, first one he has tons of stuff, so he drags things here and there.
Second links, looks like recipes.

While online I’m asking for help with crafting, like, can somebody guide me with crafting.

TROLL,TROLL,TROLL

Ok so no help there.

Really I have sat for a few days trying to figure this out but no luck.

I thank everyone who tried helping, but i’m done. Seriously I am done.

phaseman.3279, ask people ingame. they’ll help you.

Do you know how to chat on the main map channel?

Press enter and type /m, that will switch to map chat, then start asking questions.

Yes, this is an MMORPG. They’re very complex games with a high learning curve. Don’t feel stupid, I remember the first time I logged in, I felt exactly the same way you did.

Type /m and ask questions. People will be happy to help.

I’m new too and found this site:
http://www.guildwars2-crafting.com/crafting-guides/
I’ve just started leveling Weaponsmith using it, and hit level 25. I’ve just been collecting everything I can as I explore, and hitting deposit collectables in the drop down menu of my inventory.

You can only craft things at a station though, but you do need to have the things in your bag, it pulls them from your collections.

I’ll try to give you a step by step guide, I’ll use leatherworking as an example, but most crafts use the same principle (jewelry and cooking are slightly different).
Apologies in advance if some things are way to obvious, but i’ll just write everything down i know.
Make sure you have gathering tools equiped en collect (mine/chop/gather) everything you come across. Also monsters drop fine crafting materials They will end up in your inventory. right click and choose deposit collectible so put it in your bank. this will save inventory space.

1. First talk to a master crafter of your chosen craft. They are found next to a crafting station in every major city. For example the master leatherworker. Choose the option ‘please teach me to be a leatherworker’.

2. Go to the crafting station. On the left side are 4 tabs. the first one is the discovey tab. Here you will discover the recipes you havent already learned. Second tab is the production tab. Here you will make refinements, components and insignia’s with the materials you found in the world (for example copper ore, green wood logs, vials of blood etc). You will combine these in the dicovery tab. Third is the bank. Fourth tab is the collections tab. Here are all you materials stored, when you use ‘deposit collectible’ option. Also, some things can’t be found out in the world, but are bought at the master crafter (for example lumps of tin or spools of jute thread)

3. when you start crafting, go to the production tab. Start by refining materials. You use these for making components. For example: you have to make bolts of jute. In order to make that you need jute scraps. 2 scraps make 1 bolt.

4. Next step is making components, for example gloves. You need to make the rawhide glove strap and the rawhide glove lining. These will use bolts of jute, spool of jute thread and stretched rawhide leather square. When you click on a component you will see how much you need of which refinements.

5. Next is to make an insignia/inscription. For example the mighty jute insignia. This will need a bolt of jute and bone chips (depends on which insignia you make, but they will use fine crafting materials that drop from monsters).

6. Now that you’re done with crafting the different components, you got to the discovery panel. Drag your rawhide glove lining, rawhide glove strap and mighty jute isnignia from the left side of the panel to the right side, into the empy squares. When all 3 components are there, you hit the craft button. Voila, you have made Mighty gloves!

7. These are just the basics to get started. now you know how to craft, you can use the sites mentioned by others above, to craft all the way to lvl 400.

Hope this helped, good luck.
And again sorry, if some things were to obvious or you already knew them.
