Now I’m not talking about simple vendors. Add NPC’s in cities and on the landscape, who, when talked to, express a desire for certain foods. If you give them the treat they need/want, they will reward you, tell you a secret, etc.

This would add a new layer of meaning to cooking. There could be dynamic events such as a royal party, where players need to supply certain dishes to fill the bar, and then observe the Queen and royalty have a meal.

NPC shops could order certain number of food items, that cooks would provide, for a price. Sort of like daily quests.

A lonely hermit who expresses his desire to eat a meal he used to taste decades ago, once you give him what he desires, he would open a door to his garden with rare cooking mats.

List could go on.

Love it! That would also put some demand for all that food in my inventory that won’t sell on the TP.

Since food doesn’t sell except at prices several silver underneath what it cost to make it, this would indeed be an interesting way of allowing chefs to benefit from their craft and have fun at the same time.

I love it, great idea. It’d certainly push it towards being that advanced profession it’s meant to be.

It reminds me of the Yakkington weekly for some reason. Which I wouldn’t mind seeing return in this cooking format. For those that don’t cook it’d help boost those non-existent sales for those who actually do!

This is great!
I love cooking and I love exploration, what a great way to combine the two.
I would love to wander the world looking for hermits with cravings and secret gardens!

I’d prefer any way to sell the cooking items I make since most sell for far below what it cost to make them on the TP & selling to any merchant isn’t an option either. Nor can you use the mystic forge to offload extra items like you can with the other crafting professions. ArenaNet seriously dislikes chefs in my opinion.

…or have this NPC be in Lion’s Arch and run a mission/shelter. You donate food to him to feed the needy and you gain karma for each donation.

I like this idea, but why stop at cooking?

Maybe the old hermit needs a new pair of shoes, or the fort sentries need new armor, or the scholars need new foci, etc
