I mean the ones from the laurel vendor.

They don’t seem to give you more mats per use than the tools you can buy from most vendors for silver. Before you raised the required level (to 45) I bought some advanced sickles to give to my lowbie alt to gather a few high lvl mats in EB. Now that’s no longer possible.

Ori tools can gather the same mats and also have a lvl restriction (of 60). So what’s the point of the advanced tools? To allow someone lvl 45-59 to gather higher lvl stuff in WvW? At the rate lvling is in the game, that’s what, maybe a week?

Two days of doing dailies (for one type of tool) for approximately a week of gathering in a very limited (WvW) area*? Why bother?

Please remove the level restriction.

*if you try to go to the PvE areas with the mats that outlevel mithril tools it’s pretty much insta-death for a <60

When you harvest something you have a random chance of harvesting a rare material. For wood these are little treasures, for Ore these are Jewels and for plants these are occasional dyes and whatnot.

The advanced gathering tools give you a higher chance of getting these, a bit like Black Lion tools did.

Ah, it must just be a string of bad luck with the RNG. I used up a stack (125) between 5 toons* and got zero dyes. I got a few grey dandelions, but not an unusual amount. Not a noticeably higher amount of cooking mats either. I’m used to better yields even with ori tools.

*Thank you Anet on at least making them account bound, not soulbound, even after use. Good move that.

I was actually considering trying them in south sun cove for that rare flower that goes into the jewel.

I don’t know about you guys, but the fact that they come in stacks of 250 makes them pretty sweet in my book.

I don’t believe this is the case. I used a black lion pick and get the same amount of ores and non-ores. In fact, I have picks run completely dry, no additional stuff.

The description might mean it’s just “better”, meaning, you can use them at a lower level than normal picks.

Remember that tools below the level of the node they harvest still have a chance to actually harvest it. So higher level picks are “better”.

The definition of “better” is misleading. So the difference is only that you don’t need to be at least 60 to use them.

For me it would mainly be the stacks. More uses mean less inventory space used.

Also since it is of better quality, I assume it either means that you have a better chance of harvesting rare items (such as dyes for gathering or jewels for mining) or a better chance of obtaining multiple gathers per swing. Or both.

The description implies both but people still seem to have “higher chance” confused with “guaranteed”.

Seems to me that infusable rings and amulets are the best use of Laurels, until all your chars have a full set, why waste Laurels on harvesting tools?

Does anyone yet whether or not these work on all nodes?

It depends entirely on where your priorities lie. Some people simply do not care about BiS stats.

So are these equivalent to Mithril tools or Ori tools? anything less than Mithril is worthless to me, but I love the 250 stacks. I wish all tools could stack properly but whatever.

I wished ANet agreed with you. Unfortunately they agreed with me instead and decided the best thing you can get with laurels are endless cat tonic, cat mini and dog mini. Only 245 laurels left …

Well when the end of this month is up Lionguard Lyns is gonna be gone. Taking those 250 use Tools and Kits with her. Which means when she’s gone the only place to get 250 use Tools is the Laurel Vendor. Too bad Anet Didn’t add a 250 use Salvage kit. or did they?

EDIT: whoops it seems that the Sickel is only 125 the other two are 250. weird.

Well, logs and ores take 3 swings per node and plants only take 1. I think 125 sickles will last you longer than 250 picks

Isn’t the foraging sickle from Bloodtide coast about the same as the Lauriel one except it only has 25 tries?
And besides I will rather take the ones from Lynn commendations. They all have 250 tries.

I think it also gives you a chance of not harvesting the node, i have noticed on plants sometimes it doesnt disapear and i get to harvest it again or even a 3rd time, sometimes when chopping down trees i get 4, 5 or even 6 logs

Those are from the WvW bonus not the tools. There is also a temporary guild upgrade which gives a chance of giving you more than one log/ore/plant per tool use.
