I have plenty of the Ascended mats for a set of armor except for Dragonite, of which I’m 1000 short. I’m a WvW/dungeon player mostly, so Dragonite is hard to come by. I’ve been told i need to farm world bosses. Any advice on the best way to do that? I know they are websites that list timers, but those often show hours long windows. Do you just hang around until the event spawns? That can’t be right.

You can (I think, still) get an overlay from gw2stuff.com. I leave it up and it tells me when events start, so I can go do them. Also, if you get into a decent group, usually someone will call out what event is next.

I’ve made some adjustments/additions so I can see the status of some of the other events without having to run over. For example if the two events that block the Shadow Behemoth’s pre or the status of the camps for Karka Queen.

Alt farming world bosses.

As someone who has seven 80’s, I currently have ~ a 5/4/1 ratio of Bloodstone/Dragonite/Empy.

The Dragonite comes from the ground chest, and thus each world boss’s dragonite is claimable once per day per level 80 character.

Megadestroyer chest currently doesn’t drop dragonite for whatever reason. Arah chest doesn’t either.

That second website looks very promising (audio alerts would be neat), but it doesn’t have Karka Queen on it?

if you have limited time to play, guest on servers as well to see if the events you need are up. i usually check BG, JQ and TC. may be others but i generally only check these and guest accordingly if needed.

and then bring all ur lvl 80 alts as mentioned.

do the temples when you can as well as the higher level world bosses (the lower level ones give only a handful of ore. and sometimes, none at all!).

temples def give best as they give you 30 in one go. personally, the most i’ve gotten from jormie say was around 24.

gw2stuff.com works great! I have a second monitor, so I can just leave their webpage open.

Halcyon, my ratio differs greatly from yours. I had:

Karka Queen is there twice but that is correct. There are two Karka Queen events, one for when it spawns near the center camp and one for when it spawns near camp karka.

http://www.gw2state.com/boss.html is also useful – change for your server of course but it rings a bell too and has info about when temples are open so you can guest on another server which has Balthazar open for Obsidian shards for karma for example.
It does enable you to check which servers have those event coming up too.

However whatever you do the drop rate is still poor.

At first I didnt know wat dragonite ore was…until i started crafting Ascended weapon
But from som reason when i looked in my bank i had like 700 Dragonite ore….first i thought it was easy to farm since i dont do world bosses that much or fractal or wvw or anything related. so where did i get them? The only event i did was Nightmare tower…i think it was from the chamber in the tower event tat gave me this much dragonite ore….cus i did it almost every day most of the time since it was fun.But after i crafted Ascended and trying to farm dragonite ore for my backpackskin i soon realised it wasnt easy to get.Im pretty sure it was from the nightmare tower.But the tower is gone now and im having a hard time myself getting dragonite ore from the open world.

You get it from the tri key chest, which is still around in Kessex hills. But keys drop very rarely now, so you have to buy them. You can only buy one per day. And unless you want the achievement or are reeeeeeally desperate for dragonite, it’s not worth it for the price.

If doing world bosses, try to do the dragons and the golem (around 15-25 ore). Even better would be to do the temples and karka queen. They give the most in game at the moment (usually around 30). And you can do temples again the same day with an ALT and get even more dragonite. Find a good server with a temple zerg and enjoy.

I use “GW2 Event Timer” on my Android tablet; you can grab it from the app store. It’s never been wrong, and it tells me which events are running and their real-time, live status.

Heh I feel the same way. Been too lazy to make my own so it can do that and other stuff.

The nice thing about karka queen is that the chest is not limited to once per day so even if you don’t have a bajillion lv80 alts you can still get a decent amount from it and the timer is relatively short.

Several servers have temple zergs at reset. Join in, AFK for the pre-events and most of the final event, hit 1 a few times at the end to get your dragonite.

That’s what I do. I feel a bit bad about it when there are queues for the zone because I’m almost certainly taking the spot of someone who enjoys this type of content more than I — but it’s the only way to get dragonite in a reasonable amount of time if you’re a WvW player.

I have an app on my android GW2 Event Timer which tells me what state world boss events are at and I just port over whenever they are starting.

Not doing too bad. I’m getting about 100 in a couple hours. I’ll have to try and get on some temple runs.

The bonus chest (floating bottom right) is the chest with 1 garunteed rare or better, and is only once per day per account per boss.

The physical ground chests which contains the dragonite is once per day per character per boss.

That’s why I said, if you want dragonite, log into your 80 alts to farm it. (Ascended mats only drop if you’re level 80)

KQ’s ground chest is nice as it also drops an additional 5 karka shells each time.

Hitting up Orr Temples will net you about 20-30 dragonite per temple, per character. It adds up very quickly.

Yep! Different reward ratios for different playstyles. I do a lot of world bosses inbetween T6 node harvesting, particularly because this allows me time to alt tab and do other things between bosses and while running to ore.

I’ve never been big on dungeons other than to get access to a transmog look, or stat combinations, and my ascended materials count reflects that. Most of my Empy shards are probably from WvW actually.

I could be wrong, but I believe that patch note was to reflect a change during Secrets of Southsun/Canach to make it more rewarding to keep doing during the event.

It’s out of date, because the Karka Queen chests today currently function like any other boss: bonus = once per day per account, ground = once per day per character.

For most servers, at reset, a large number of players will get together and do all the bosses and temples. If you’re not on during reset. I suggest just guesting to a large server like BG or TC.

Thanks for the info. I don’t really have time to farm a world boss more than once per day (I usually just hit the bigger ones like Karka Queen and the Shatterer once, and the other bosses only if I happen to be on the map when they spawn), but the info is good to know!

Also got my first Settler’s Insignia recipe from Karka Queen last night! WOO! Now I just need 2 more. XD

the Tri-key chest in Kessex offers about as much Dragonite as a world boss, however it will cost you 45silver + 30 toxic spores if you don’t have any key components.

Killed the queen twice today on the same character. Looted the chest twice so I think it’s safe to say that was not another case of the patch notes being wrong.

The Inquest Golem in Mount Maelstrom is a good source if you have multiple 80s, it gives almost as much as the dragons and spawns much more frequently. Using one of the apps/overlays/sites available through the API you can guest to a couple servers which have it running soon before or after your home server does and get it several times in a row quite quickly.

The temples in Orr all give 30 dragonite per chest (except Arah, which gives none for some reason). Melandru and Dwayna are fairly easy and done regularly on many servers. Grenth can be done by 5 people if they are coordinated, but can become a cluster of kittens if too many people are there (more adds/aoe/boss hp due to scaling, and lots of people staying dead since the closest respawn is a million miles away). Balthazar isn’t hard either if everyone knows what to do, watch the mob spawns during the event and make sure they aggro you not the npcs.

As a mostly WvW player, I’ve had to go out of my way to get dragonite while my bank continues to accumulate empyreal and bloodstone.
