so far at tier 2 in my tailoring but it seems as if mob drops, and various rewards yield as good if not better equipment than I can craft. Obviously I am missing something here since I can vendor my crafting items and make a lot more coin than I can using them to level crafting

Gear you can craft is no better than gear you loot. Difference is its easier to get exact stats you want if you craft instead of just taking whatever drops.

you are also most likely getting better gear from drops because you probably out lvl’d the gear you can craft at that point (until lvl 60 or so I was always about 10 lvls ahead of whatever I was making)
