I should probably don my flame-kittenant clothing before saying that I crafted The Crossing last night, and I’m left feeling a little bit underwhelmed.

Yes, I knew its stats before I crafted it. Yes, I even worked out the approximate costs of the mats, but it seems to me that something that requires:

280 orichalum ingots (560 orichalum ore)
100 crystal lodestones
20 glacial/charged/onyx lodestones
100 mystic coins
40 bottles of elonian wine
1 eldritch scroll
10,000 candy corn
10,000 nougat centers
10 piles of crystalline dust
Gift of Knowledge (500 knowledge crystals)
Recipe: Superior Sigil of the Night
etc.

… should at least get an infusion slot? I’m not going to say they deserve legendary status (although if you didn’t farm any of the mats, you’re looking at 250g+ outlay + many CoE expl. runs), but it does seem a little sad that you end up scrapping the thing you built so quickly and just keeping the skin, since it is a fairly limited exotic.

Now I know the point is to get the skin, but on that point applies some flame kittenant gel the lamp on The Crossing realllly needs its physics revisited… (this is the one thing that I hadn’t gathered before putting all the time/effort into forging it).

Well, tbh it has always been only about the skin – and it is not even that costly, compared to some other mystic forge exotics. On the other hand, bumping any of the named exotics whose creation is more costly than ascended up a tier would not hurt.
…and the lamp is in need of some looking into, as sometimes it behaves really weirdly.

Actions, not words.

The thing is, if they put an infusio slot, or make it ascended, it will become account bound, and people won’t be able to sell it.
They maybe can add a mystic forge recipe to upgrade mystic forge item to make them ascended but no make them account bound in any way.

Nah, it would start a lot of issues. At what gold cost do you put these expensive weapons at ascended? Should expensive BL skins turn weapons into ascended weapons (plenty of those are more expensive than the crossing)? etc. etc.

Better to skip all that and leave them as is. If you have the funds to be able to create these things then you should also have the funds to make an asended weapon and move the skin over.

Grats on making it none the less op

You could always buy the Gift of the TP or find someone to craft it for you, assuming you can find someone trustworthy.

Rare skins should be expensive. That’s what makes them rare. You wouldn’t want it if it was cheap.
On the same hand, rare skins [in GW2] should also be BiS. Most games, the rare stuff isn’t always the best stuff. I’m not suggesting The Crossing should be exotic. I’m suggesting they do what they did with the Triforge Pendant – add a recipe to make it ascended. except that triforge -> ascended triforge recipe is a joke. unless you’re planning to sell it, there is no reason you would not do it. upgrading any exotic to ascended should require ascended mats. How about this: any exotic + Vision Crystal + 5 glob of dark matter + (2 deldrimor dowel if a weapon or 5 deldrimor ingots if heavy armor or 5 elonian leather if medium armor or 5 bolt of damask if light armor) = account-bound ascended version of that exotic
OP’s other option is to craft an ascended staff and use a T charge to put The Cross skin on it. which would be about the same price (a bit more expensive) as what I just suggested, but he wouldn’t have the exotic The Crossing as well.

gift is about 150, the weapons are about 225.

If you just want the weapons, probably not a good idea to pay an extra 70 for the recipe.

That being said if you have the recipe you can craft more to sell etc.

I crafted the “recipe” for gift of souls not understanding that I then had to craft the actual gift of souls, before I can craft the crossing….

I feel completely exploited by Anet. I feel like they just tricked me out of 70 gold.

The only way to play the engineer is to exploit it.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.

Because the recipe doesnt say gift of souls and not the crossing. Learn to read problem.

the recipe, for the recipe, for Gift of Souls sure looks like a recipe for the Gift of Souls to me!

…because why would anyone in the freaking world think that you have to spend 70 gold to craft the recipe, for crafting an ingredient, used in crating an item.

There are many craftable exotics in this game that are incredibly costly. It’s their aesthetic that is appealing and nothing else. Mjölnir is more expensive than a precursor and is still just an exotic

The problem with adding an infusion slot to these mystic-forge craftable exotics would is that there are mf exotics ranging from a few gold to hundreds of gold. If you add an infusion to one of these exotics (e.g. The Crossing) then other exotics should get the same treatment (e.g. Glint’s Scale). Where’s the arbritrary cut-off and how will A-net decide it? There has to be some cut-off, or you’d be able to add +5 AR (versatile) infusions to them and practically negate the need for ascended weapons (except for their own aesthetic and minor stat increase).

Anyway, I hope that all makes sense. I would honestly suggest just crafting an ascended staff and skin it with The Crossing if you want an infusion slot. It’s very unlikely that they would add infusion slots to exotics.
