If this has been said before I’m sorry. I searched but didn’t fine anything. Why do gold and silver say I can refine them into ingots as an artificer when I clearly cannot do that?

Perhaps you know the silver/gold ingot recipe from your other profession and that carried over into your artificer?

Exactly.

However your skill in artificer is not yet high enough to craft them.

You can use them in potions

Whenever an item says that a certain crafting profession can use that item, it means that the crafting profession can use that item for a discovery, specifically.

I think they might’ve been a little inconsistent in this labeling practice, which has lead to confusion over it, but this is the stated design intent from an earlier forum post. Items that are used by a profession simply for default recipes but no discoveries are not supposed to have that profession listed on them.

For artificing, you generally use oddball items to make potions – this includes the silver nuggets, the filigree pearls (not their proper name), carrots, and unrefined leather, for example.

Thank you for the responses. I did notice that the gold nuggets appear in my discovery pane but I don’t seem to be able to use it just yet. The silver doesn’t show up anywhere. Maybe that comes later too? Right now I’m 212 as an artificer so I’ve still got a ways to go before I can use any metal above gold for anything.
