Artificing high wood cost?
Make potions. You can get probably 40% of all the crafting XP you need from carrots, jugs of water, and the dust/leather of each tier (Centaur slaying). And most of the rest from water, dust, and raw ore (Dredge slaying)
Some of the potion recipies are absolutely trivial to mass produce. I don think I used a single stick of wood from 158 to 400.
Oh, wait, I did use a few bits of wood… making focus cores to use in Inquest killing potions .
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I think I ended up with over 300 potions of centaur slaying of one tier or another. Very efficient cost wise plus you can sell them back for a small amount to vendor
doesn’t artificing use less ingots compared to other crafts? and yes it has potions as an alternative choice to level. from memory a staff need 4 + 2 planks for the base component, greatsword needs 3 + 3 ingots for, warhammer needs 3 ingots + 3 planks. afaik most 2 handers need 6 ingots or planks for its basic components, even some one handers needing the same amount.
its the huntsman who gets off easy, bow staves requiring 4 planks and some measily leather to make the string.
doesnt one plank in particular also need 4 logs? anyway they all used to require 2 in the early days of the game but was for some reason changed to 3 not sure why. the fact you have more ore then wood may be due to rich nodes of ore where as wood has no equivalent.
Yeah, soft planks require 4 logs for some bizarre reason.
Finished getting my Artificer to 400 last night, pretty much only on the four wood heavy items, and yeah, it uses an insane amount of wood. I found the wood easy enough to get though if you hang out in the right zones.
“the fact you have more ore then wood may be due to rich nodes of ore where as wood has no equivalent.”
True, though I have to say I get 4 logs from probably 50% of the trees I hit (not counting extra hits, I mean 4 logs from the basic 3 whacks), I think that’s because trees have a chance to give 1-2 logs per harvest (I had one Ancient node give 2 for each of the 3 harvests, but that was the only one that’s ever given more than 3, oddly enough)
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
At launch the planks only required 2 logs, the same as for metal and fabric. As I recall, there ended up being a vast surplus of wood on the TP, such that the log value dropped to vendor price.
They then upped the requirements for planks and removed the surplus from the economy using some short term Mystic Forge recipes.
No idea why one of the tiers requires 4 rather than 3 though. I guess they did some maths on the gathering rate of each type of wood and picked the numbers accordingly.
