Q:
Ascended Crafting Back Items?
A:
There are no recipes to ascend it. The upgrade slot has to be a jewel, specifically a mithril jewel level 65. I assume the reason for this is the main stats you choose after creating the backpiece are actually higher than compared to say the exotic Soldier’s Spineguard at level 80. I added the Embellished Brillant Beryl Jewel (Level 65) to the new backpiece without an issue.

I suspect this was done because the costs to craft the Exotic level backpacks is far, far less than acquiring the old level 80 backpieces. This way, it still encourages players to buy level 80 backpieces from the Temples, or go for Ascended versions.
It really annoys me too though.
Since they’re Exotic and have Infusion slots…
It’s possible that:
Agony will be given to some open world mobs, possibly Mursaat will come back.
or
They fix the rarity of the crafter’s back item (Although it wouldn’t make sense, since there were no Ascended materials used in crafting this backitem.)
Still, nice that we can now craft backitems with crafting disciplines, and they’re not mostly limited to Ascended rarity…
Hmm, Exotic back item gives 22-16-16, while the max lvl crafter’s back item gives 32-18-18…
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Really? That’s interesting… That tips it more into the “probably bugged” territory. Hopefully it’ll get cleared up soon.

I forgot to mention the Crafting lvl that the last versions of the back item (With Ascended lvl stats and infusion slots), it’s 400, not 500 as Ascended crafting…

They are not bugged. Just like the new weapons and armor, they are intended for advanced crafters who level an alt. Due to their rarity/stats/level requirements, they enable you to level your alts faster.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Someone, I think it was a comment on the dulfy post, said that the elegant level 400 versions said “crafting item” in the hover over description when you view them in either th wardrobe or in the crafting window (I dont remember which). maybe there is a mystic forge recipe for it to go ascended? anyone looked to see if the forge would even accept it?

forge does NOT except the 78 backs…nor does it show up as a discovery component.

Bummer – now we know why the backs are 78 instead of 80…that kind of sucks, oh well. Still ok for alts…
The annoying thing is that the items themselves say they can be used to craft something else.
Either they remove that message, or add some way to ascend them.
The stat selection is also borked for the level 78 ones. The list includes several stat combinations seen only in ascended, Like Rabid+Dire.

Don’t destroy the backpieces! They might very well have one final upgrade step to Ascended tier; it’s just on hold since Chef and Jeweler is limited to 400 at the moment.
