It is too outlandish to be false.

I’m confused by the above comments – it seems like a totally reasonable amount of materials to me for a top tier weapon. Remember it is time gated, so this is the amount of material that would need to be gathered over a two week (min) period.

I highly doubt you only get 1 dust per champ/chest/etc… although I suppose it will take quite a few, regardless.

I highly doubt you get as many as 1 per chest. I’d expect it to be random, with 0 being a possible result. Rather like salvaging ectos.

Fortunately I have about 400 champ bags tucked in my bank… I’ll think I’ll be opening them AFTER the next update .

Actually the T7 mats will only come from bags “produced” after Sept 3. They will not be retroactive for bags before that……..

J/K. Actually I might not be but we will all find out come Sept 3!!

Depending on how often exotics will give Dark Matter, this seems to be far more time consuming, than actually expensive.

So you know the drop rate of t6 mats from champions and world bosses. Now you need 1500 t7 mats for 1 ascended weapon. Now legendary looks not that hard to get for me xD. Can you even imaging ascended armor requirements? I’m freakin scared already.

I’m glad someone did this, but it’s still depressing. You thought a Legendary was hard?

I’m not sure I get this statement.

A legendary still requires a lot more effort due to the gift requirements. 250 obsidian shards. 200 skill point Bloodstone Shard. 77 mystic cloves (another 200+ obsidian shards), 250 of every type of T6 rare crafting material.

And that’s just for your gifts of Mastery and Fortune.

Ascended looks like a lot, but breaking it down, it’s actually not nearly as bad as the effort to get a Legendary. The only part we don’t know about are the various Ascended Materials. They apparently require a lot of them, but we don’t know how much drop at once either.

I feel so bad for people with multiple classes and multiple weapons. I just pulled an excel sheet and calculated the total for all 5 weapons I have to craft on my Thief and it’s just insane.

Huge gold sink for players sitting on hundreds of gold. Terrible for players with little gold.

Okay. There isn’t an “artificial timegate” on farming the materials for a Legendary. But there is still the very real timegate of actually collecting all those materials. Or are you trying to tell me that you can gather up all the materials for a Legendary Weapon (including 100% map completion) in just 2 weeks?

Fixed that for you since Anet is continually practicing the policy of making their game the best it can be at making the players grind. In a game that was originally sold and advertised as a "no grind" game with horizontal progression like Guild Wars 1, instead of Vertical progression like every other mmo. Guess if you hate other mmos you will hate this one to.

What kinda makes me O.o is how close the 1h weapons are to the 2h weapon mats… when you’ll need 2 1h’s and only 1 1h… seems a bit out of wack to me.

The 2h to 1h ratio seems a bit out of wack like the poster before me said. Allthough, I do not think the mats themselves are that hard to get….The t7 may be hard to get, but the total of like 180 ingot here 180 planks there 100 this etc etc…that’s not too bad at all!

I see your point, but are you new to MMO’s? 1h’d users always get the short end of the stick when it comes to gearing up in my experience. Now, in GW2 an OH weapon is more than just a stat stick as in most MMO’s (to varying degrees…), it actually gives you different abilities – I’d say an OH is worth more in GW2 for whatever that is worth.

You are somewhat wrong. To make 1 deldrimor ingot you will need 10 ectos, 20 iron and 1 mithrilium (which is your time gated mat).

To make a deldrimor plated dowel it will require 50 ectos. Which is required for every ascended inscription.

Now, in GW2 an OH weapon is more than just a stat stick as in most MMO’s (to varying degrees…), it actually gives you different abilities – I’d say an OH is worth more in GW2 for whatever that is worth.

In most other MMO’s I’ve seen, the weapons don’t give you skills. It’s common for some skills to require a certain weapon type, but skills are not automatically slotted when you equip a weapon. In GW2, the first 5 skills are hard linked to what weapons you have.

2H weapon = 5 skills
1H mainhand + 1H offhand weapon = 5 skills

1×2H or 2×1H, they are both “worth” 5 skills, yet one is about double the cost in time/materials.

You are somewhat wrong. To make 1 deldrimor ingot you will need 10 ectos, 20 iron and 1 mithrilium (which is your time gated mat).

To make a deldrimor plated dowel it will require 50 ectos. Which is required for every ascended inscription.

IF you have 2 OH weapons you also get 2 infusions and sigils so they are more versatile than TH weapons.

2 handed ascended will have 2 infusion slot and now that we are into comparing you do know that 2 handed has higher weapon damage than 2 – 1 hander’s right?
Regardless those that choose to use one hand weapons shouldn’t have to wait 2 weeks longer to complete a weapon set. But I guess it don’t matter it is what it is.

A legendary still requires a lot more effort due to the gift requirements.

Materials for a legendary are not time gated. You can farm that stuff.

The hard part about a legendary is the pre-cursor.

Okay. There isn’t an “artificial timegate” on farming the materials for a Legendary. But there is still the very real timegate of actually collecting all those materials. Or are you trying to tell me that you can gather up all the materials for a Legendary Weapon (including 100% map completion) in just 2 weeks?

It’s as much (if not more) likely as collecting materials for ascended weapon in two weeks (vision crystal… that’s over 40 champions, dungeon runs and temple/dragon events daily. And the last two are under separate time restriction now – i’m not sure if there are 40 different dungeon paths and world bosses in this game)

That’s still speculation on the droprate of those ingredients. We don’t know how many will drop.

You now know why oulling out your CC and buying gems got much much more appeal than before….it goes against all they said legendaries would be – just a skin.

I guess the only question here is, what is the drop rate of the T7 mats? In practice, you need to farm 100 of the per day if you don’t want to “lose out”. How many champions do you need to kill to get 100 T7 mats?

This is what I’m thinking, never have to upgrade and can change the stats of it at anytime.

But I don’t like any of the legendary options so I guess will have to see what new ones they come out with. Gonna be kitten for awhile.

Nope, but what makes you think anyone will be making Ascended weapons in just 2 weeks. We still don’t know what drops rates are going to be, and it’s Anet we’re talking about here. I’m not all that hopeful about it.

It might have changed by now, but here’s what the Looking Ahead: GW2 in 2013 blog from July had on the topic.

We’ll also add a new set of account-bound crafting materials to the game. You’ll receive these materials as guaranteed rewards once per day per unique location for completing content within a category of gameplay in Guild Wars 2.
For example, capturing camps, towers, and keeps in WvW will earn you these crafting materials. In the Living World, you can earn them for killing giant world bosses, defeating dungeons, completing jumping puzzles, completing mini-dungeons, finishing some types of guild missions, capturing temples in Orr, and other activities.

I’m guessing the champions will be exempt from this, unless they manage to pull of the coding for a daily pop-up chest for every champ in the game. And it’s going to be a nightmare for wvw. Every borderland will only be good for one clean sweep through, so this is just more encouragement for karma, wxp, and now T7 zerg trains.

Some mats are time-gated but then they are an ingredient in other mats which are not time-gated or account-bound and which you’ll be able to buy on the TP. If you’re willing to buy these mats on the TP, it seems to me you can overcome any time limits inherent in crafting the early-stage mats.

it doesn’t show any ectos at all on the craft window.

The mithrilium takes ectos. Perhaps that’s what they meant.

I bet we see someone posting up an Ascended weapon within the first week actually, since the end result items do not appear to any related timers, and the materials before that are unbound.
